Tim Francis is coming to Westphalia! Tim is founder of You Shall Believe Ministries (www.youshallbelieve.com) and will give a live presentation titled, “Do You Believe in Miracles? Seeing is Believing” on August 11 and 12 from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. in the St. Joseph School gym in Westphalia. Join us on either or both nights! No registration is neces-sary. For more information visit: http://www.sciencetestsfaith.com/westphalia/. If you have any questions, call 573-694-6319. There is no charge to attend any of the presentations; refreshments will be provided during intermission. In each presentation, Mr. Francis will offer commentary to stunning film clips, including: five different consecrated Communion hosts from four different countries that all turned into human heart tissue dur-

ing Mass; Communion host caught on film pulsating and beating like a human heart; a statue of Jesus that has been crying and bleeding for the past 15 years; a woman who claims to see Jesus and Mary ... filmed having the stigmata (receiving the wounds of Christ from begin-

ning to end). The presentation is based on the book, Reason to Believe, which is approved and recommended as a Catholic publication. Mr. Francis has conducted more than 500 parish missions conveying the meaning of the miracles and a better understand-ing about Jesus being truly present in the Eucharist. His quest for truth and verifiable scientific evidence of claims of Eu-charistic miracles led him back to being Catholic after bottoming out with drug addiction and becoming active in another Christian faith community. FYI: There is no charge for this event. There will be life changing books available for purchase and there will be an op-portunity for a free-will donation towards Tim's mission. (Tim does not profit in any way from the sales of books.) Volunteers from Westphalia and Folk are needed to help with distributing posters, postcards, ushering, setting up chairs, tear-down, and assisting with book sales, helping with serving refreshments, and clean up, etc. The volunteers will all be able to watch the entire presentation. Their help is needed one hour before, during intermission (if applica-ble), and immediately after the presentation. We will also need volunteers to help hand out postcard flyers after week-end Masses On July 27-28 and August 3-4. We are also seeking volunteers to make and donate cookies, brownies, etc. to serve as refreshments. Adults or teens needing service hours or who would like to help contact: St. Joseph Parish contact - Brenda Rehagen text or call 573-694-6319. or [email protected]; or St. Anthony Parish contact - Sarah Huhn text or call at 573-291-3556 or email at [email protected]

CCD/PSR Teen Notes:

Tim Frances - Eucharistic Miracles - will be here August 11 and 12 from 6:30 - 9:00. Please pick one of those evenings that works out for you and your family and plan on attending one of his sessions. This will count as one of your classes for the 2019-2020 year. We also need some volunteers that can help set out cookies and help with drinks during the intermission.

Service Projects: This year teens will be completing service projects. If anyone in the community has a ser-vice project that they know they will need assistance with in the coming 2019-2020 school year, please contact Angela Stuecken @ 573.694.2729. She is compiling the list and will be working with the Core Team and Teens to help get them organized and accomplished. If you know of someone in the community that could use some additional help, please do not hesitate to call and discuss the opportunity with Angela. We as a young church are here to serve in ways that we can.

Core Team Members: Are you interested in growing your relationship with God? Are you interested in build-ing a stronger relationship with 15 other Core Team Members? Are you interested in getting to know 5-6 teens in our parish really well through relational ministry? Are you willing to commit to them for the 2019-2020 school year maybe beyond? Are you willing to help strengthen our church by supporting our teens - they are the future of this parish? We are looking for a few more Core Team Members that would like to join the other 15 of us that committed last year. You are never too old. You are never not educated enough. You are enough! Pray about the possibility of becoming a Core Team Member; ask God if he is really calling you to this ministry, commitment and adventure. If you have questions or think you might be interested, please call Angela Stuecken 573.694.2729.

Take Stock - We have 33 teens going to NCYC this year. We are once again offering Take Stock as a fundrais-er/awareness opportunity. Take Stock allows people in the community to take stock in our youth and help them grow deeper and stronger in their Catholic faith. The Take Stock dinner and teen presentation will be held Sun-day, December 1, at the KC Hall at 5 p.m. If you have already taken your stock, please mark your calendars. If you have not taken stock, there are forms in the church vestibule or contact one of the teens that you would like to support. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Angela Stuecken at 573.694.2729

Dessert of the Month - Please come out to the Dessert Auction at the St. Joseph Picnic and support our youth by bidding on their dessert of the month. The proceeds from the dessert of the month auction will be used to support the youth service projects throughout the year and shirts to wear as they are out representing our par-ish. One of our service projects last year included providing candy bags and hand crafted Christmas cards to the nursing homes in Westphalia and Linn.

Chancery News: We continue to pray for all who are impacted by the natural disasters this year, both the tornadoes that hit Cole, Hickory, Miller and Randolph counties this past week, and the flooding of major rivers in our Diocese. Counties impacted by that flooding include Boone, Callaway, Camden, Chariton, Clark, Cole, Gasconade, Howard, Lewis, Linn, Maries, Marion, Miller, Moniteau, Monroe, Montgomery, Morgan, Osage, Pettis, Phelps, Perry, Pike, Ralls, Randolph and Saline.

Catholic Charities of Central and Northern Missouri, an agency of our Diocese, is working with other agencies to ensure a coordi-nated and integrated network of support is provided to those affected. If you or your parish group would like to volunteer, please contact United Way at 2-1-1. It is serving as the central clearinghouse to match immediate needs with resources.

As Catholic Charities did in response to the 2017 floods, it is putting in place a process to assist those who have a very fragile safe-ty net: people without insurance, who are not homeowners, on limited income, with disabilities, or whose livelihood has been im-pacted by the natural disaster. If you are interested in assisting in this effort, please consider donating to Catholic Charities’ Disaster Relief Fund. Every dollar will be used for direct assistance of people affected by the flooding and tornadoes. You can donate online at diojeffcity.org or at cccnmo.org.

“Restoring Our Roots” Capital Campaign

Cash received toward renovation: $1,581,613 Amount still owed toward pledges: $ 457,854 Sale of Convent: $ 162,000 Campaign Total To-Date: $2,201,467 The total church restoration/renovation costs are budgeted at $2.2 million, perhaps a little more, as we shore up interior projects. Please note we still have a lot of money to raise toward pledges. Each dollar will be needed to complete the renovation. A letter will soon be sent out to parishioners showing pledged amounts received to-date and balances owed to-ward pledges.

Church Renovation Update: 7/25/2019

Missouri Builders finished the exterior clerestory walls and are now working on the lower roofs, gutters, and fascia. They had to replace some rotten wood in various spots which will add time to the overall project. Once the lower roofs are complete they will move to the sanctuary roof. As of now, they anticipate finishing by Sep-tember 1. Please note the lifts being used for the roof repairs will be move to the Fatima parking lots for the church picnic. Work on the new restrooms continues. Drywall and plastering are complete. A reminder this work is being completed by our very generous and talented parishioners. Exterior repairs to the stained-glass windows are complete. The exterior wood trim has been scraped, cleaned and repainted. Internal repairs to the clerestory stained glass windows (upper windows) will not be conducted until the scaffolding has been installed in the church this fall. The clerestory windows will be removed in Octo-ber, sent to Wisconsin for repairs, and reinstalled around January 2020. Painting contractor Conrad Schmitt provided an interior painting rendition that has been shared with parishion-ers and can be viewed in the front of church. The contractor plans to begin painting in church around October 1 and hopes to finish around February 2020. There have been questions about the murals. All murals will be placed on canvas and installed in the church after the walls and ceiling have been repaired and repainted. This will allow for removal during future repairs/renovations. The existing scenes on the upper side walls will be recreated. The current scene of Jesus and chil-dren above the sanctuary will be recreated in a scaled-down version and placed above the side entrance. The current scene of the death of St. Joseph above the side entrance will be moved to above the reliquary, located near the organ. The current reliquary will be replaced with a shorter, wider one to allow for more wall space. All murals will be painted on canvas at the vendor’s workshop in Wisconsin. This is tedious work that takes considerable time; therefore, the vendor will begin working on murals August 1, 2019. Brand Safway has been awarded a contract to erect the interior scaffolding. This will begin September 30. No pews need to be removed during the scaffolding phase. The scaffolding will be situated above the pews and al-low for Mass to continue (https://brandsafway.com/). New Holland Church Furniture has been selected to build and install new pews. The new pews will be made from solid red oak, though the exact stain color is yet to be determined (http://www.newhollandwood.com)/ Mid America Metals has been selected to repair and refinish the terrazzo floor. This work will take place after the old pews have been removed (https://www.midamericametals.com/). The carpet in the sanctuary will be replaced with solid-surface flooring, most likely porcelain tile. We are still researching flooring options for the balcony and steps. Father recently met with Freedom Hardwood Products to discuss options/styles/etc., for vestibule doors, re-stroom doors, balcony railings, a new confessional and communion rails. No decisions have been made on these items. Father also recently met with Schaffer Electric to discuss light fixture options to replace the existing light fix-tures suspended from the ceiling. No decisions have been made. There will be various projects/tasks in the renovation where parishioner help will be needed. Some examples include: pew removal, sanctuary carpet removal, stairway carpet removal, confessional demolition, clean-up each week prior to Mass, etc. If parishioners are willing to assist with these tasks, it will help keep renovation costs down. Please consider helping with these tasks when the time comes.
