STEWARDSHIPREFLECTIONfortheThirdSundayofEaster–April15,2018 The final lineof theFirstReading fromtheActsof theApostles is, “Repent, therefore, thatyour sinsmaybewipedaway.”ThisispartofamessagewhichPeterevidentlyoftenstatedasheevangelizedandspreadthewordaboutthesavinggraceofJesusChrist. Penance, repentance, is an important part of our Catholic faith. […] There is much in Church doctrine about theimportance of this sacrament. TheCatechism of the Catholic Church(#1424) states, “It is called thesacrament ofconfession, since thedisclosureor confessionof sins to a priest is an essential element. In a profound sense it is also a“confession”—acknowledgementandpraise—oftheholinessofGodandofHismercytowardsinfulmenandwomen.” When St. Peterwas speaking and used the term “wiped away,” that hadmoremeaning to the people of his time.Imagineifsinswerelistedonadocumentinink.Inancienttimestheinkhadnoacidcontent,andthusitcouldbe“wipedaway”withadampcloth.ThatwastheimagePeterwaspresenting.Forusgoingtoconfessionliterally“wipesaway”oursins. FUNDRAISING AND DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE: Aswe reflect on the facts outlined in our 2017 FinancialReport, it is clear that our Parish is in need of major fundraising activities/programs to help satisfy our ongoingfinancial obligations.
