This is our school theme for the 2020-21 school year and the logo we will use

for our shirts and signs throughout the

building! We are excited to

lead prayer and lead by example what it

means to be light for those around us,

shining God’s light and love through all we do and say! For the shirts, student

sizes will be gathered and t-shirts

will be distributed with school supplies during the first week

of school.2

Health and Safety:Masking

• Students and faculty will wear a mask while in the building. They may remove the mask outside for breaks or recess if they maintain 6+ feet of social distancing.

• Mask breaks will happen in the morning and afternoon at a minimum, along with lunch/recess.

• Student masks must be free from designs, logos (except the SJE logo), and bright colors. We request blue (any shade), black, gray, or khaki colored for the uniform. We ask that student masks are facial coverings only, and not the style that covers the head and throat. Also, we recommend masks with fabric or elastic bands around the ears rather than the tie-style, so teachers and/or students will not have to tie and retie masks throughout the day. Please be sure to keep several on hand for each student for use throughout the day and the week as needed. Your child may use a lanyard connected to his/her mask for easy carrying through the day.

Health and Safety:Screening

• Students and faculty will complete a health screening before arriving to school each day. The data will be shared in the morning before school via a Google form submitted by 7:15am. Parents will answer questions related to symptoms and exposure of their children as well as submitting a temperature reading of each child. Faculty will complete the same survey for themselves. • Students whose surveys are incomplete will be stopped upon arrival to school

until the responses have been provided.

• Students who have responses that indicate symptoms or exposure will be expected to stay home or be sent home upon arrival to the school.

Health and Safety:Health Room

• The health room as been arranged and outfitted according to guidance from CDC and the Archdiocese of Baltimore. We will be using room 4 for additional space if there is a need for quarantining students who exhibit COVID-like symptoms when in school as they await a parent to arrive for them.• The school’s COVID response plan can be found on slide 7.

Health and Safety:Cleaning and Sanitizing

• Students will have scheduled handwashing times throughout the day and ample access to hand sanitizing in their own classroom spaces.

• Faculty and students will maintain their classroom and student space throughout the day, cleaning as needed.

• The maintenance staff will clean high touch areas including bathrooms, door knobs, and public surfaces on an hourly rotation and will do a full cleaning and sanitizing of all surfaces and spaces after school everyday.

• The school has contracted with Jan-Pro to perform an eco-friendly and medical grade disinfecting of the school campus using their Enviroshieldsystem.

Life on Campus• Morning arrival will take place as it always has. Cars will begin arriving at

7:40-8:05. Instead of waiting in the auditorium or hallways, however, 2-8 grade students will report directly to their classroom. • 6-8th grade students will enter through PAC doors.• PK-5th grade students will enter through main entrance• PK-1st grade students will have an organized and socially distanced line system in the

auditorium with their teachers.

• Students will stay in one designated space for the day with one group of students (their cohort), and teachers will move as needed to meet the students where they are. This includes special area teachers. • At this time, we will continue weekly special area courses with the exception of library. • There will be no singing nor use of instruments during music. • Student supplies include all they will need for instruction in all areas, so there is no

sharing of supplies or materials. Please reference the supply list on my Weebly page for the supplies to be purchased by parents.

Life on Campus• Throughout the day, students will have breaks for handwashing and to

go to a large/outdoor space for time without masks. These will be scheduled by teachers.

• Outdoor space, which thankfully abounds at SJE, will be available forbreaks, recess, and learning; cohorts will not share spaces outdoors. • Playgrounds will not be used at this time.

• The school has purchased a 1500sq.ft. tent for shaded learning/break space outdoors.

• Students will have lunch and recess in their cohort. There is no lunch for purchase at school. Students will bring lunch, snack, and beverage from home each day.

Life on Campus• On the following slide, you will find examples of the different class seating

arrangements. They are measured at 3 or more feet between students with space (as you can see in 2 images) for the camera that will provide the live feed of teacher instruction.

• Please note that classrooms currently are planned for a total number ofstudents; and desks/chairs in most of these spaces will be removed according to the number remote learners. Furniture has been removed from most spaces to create additional space for movement and distancing.

• Clockwise from top right:• Classrooms for 4-6th grade. They are self-contained with teachers moving between

cohorts as needed. • 7th and 8th grade will be in the WPAC and EPAC respectively. The cohorts are separated

by dividers that are 16’ tall but allow for movement of teachers between groups. The third group of chairs you see allows for a small math group to be pulled for instruction.

• Preschool and kindergarten spaces rely on tables and chairs. Some furniture will be temporarily removed to allow more space for movement.

• Classrooms in grades 2-3. They are self-contained by cohort. 12

School Faculty 20-21• There are some changes and additions to our school faculty. These

include the need to add homerooms at several grade levels to minimize numbers in each cohort. These are listed in an attachment and on my Weebly.

Instruction in School• Moving back into the school allows us to return to more “normal”

instruction, but it will look a little different. • Minimal classroom movement for activities, board work, etc.

• Centers/Daily 5 planned as individual exploration and learning

• Minimizing small group pull-outs.

• Increased use of technology for submitting work

• Supplies, texts, materials for individual use. Most of these are provided by school. Please reference any additional supplies needed on slide 15.

• Minimize number of “handout” distributions.

• Blending some of the virtual learning practices with in person learning in order to reach those students at home simultaneously. (Classkick, Seesaw, Youtube, etc.)

Remote Instruction• Students will be expected to maintain the hours of a normal school day

and to be in uniform. Attendance will be taken daily.

• Teachers will create sessions for students to sign in according to the daily schedule that will be posted by 7:40am each morning on Weebly.• Students will log in and watch the teacher’s live instruction. The teacher can

then assign work to class and students at home to complete off-camera and sign back in for next session of instruction.

• Floorplans of classroom spaces will accommodate a table or cart for camera to be on teacher as she/he presents, so students can see teacher and board/SMART.

• Students at home will have the same supplies, materials, and texts as those in school and will need the supplies listed on the slide 18 as well. All remote learners will be provided a school iPad.

Remote Instruction• Remote learners will be expected to complete assignments and

assessments according to the same deadlines as in school learners.

• There will be a faculty member who will facilitate remote learning by providing daily office hours. This way students and parents can ask questions, trouble-shoot technology, and have academic support when teachers in the classroom are unavailable due to their own teaching schedule.

receive a full refund for your child’s registration.

• Activities and clubs that can run remotely will begin once the school year is underway.
