Now & Next

Ho, ho, hush! For children with special needs, bright lights and crowded malls can make visiting Santa stressful. This event, from 10:30 am to noon in the Lower Church Hall, is a relaxed oppor-tunity to share in the spirit of the season. Hosted by the Ministry with Persons with Disabilities, the morning offers light refreshments, a story corner, holiday crafts, and a visit with a gentle Santa. Your family is welcome. RSVP appreciated to Beth at [email protected].

Our annual poinsettia sale will be held after all Masses this Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 7-8, while supplies last. This event is hosted by the Youth Group, and proceeds help offset their costs. Buy a beautiful, fresh plant for just $20 each; cash or check only. Come early for best selection!

Thanks to the hundreds of you who are supporting our Christmas ministries in some way! Whether you have taken a tag from the St. Nicholas Project trees or committed to adopting a family or becom-ing an Advent Angel, those deadlines are near! Next weekend will be full of activity. Please review the events and ministries on page 3 for due dates and needs. If you have questions, please contact the coordinator. Thank you for brightening this season for others!

This Sunday: Sensory Friendly Morning with Santa

Wednesday: Advent Reconciliation Service

Beginning Jan. 1: Earlier Saturday Vigil Mass, Confessions

This Weekend: Annual Poinsettia Sale

Reconciliation can be an intimidating Sacrament for some people, but it can also bring a won-derful release of the burdens we bear. Please join us at 7 pm for a short service, followed by an opportunity for individual Confession. No matter how long it has been since your last Con-fession, be assured that you will receive a warm welcome and support.

Tuesday: Grieving at the Holidays

The loss of a loved one is often more keenly felt at the holidays. No matter how recent or distant your loss, our Bereavement Support Ministry invites you to join us for an evening to share, honor and remember. We meet from 7 to 8:30 pm in the Stevenson Center. Note: This meeting replaces our regularly scheduled Bereavement Support Group meeting in December. We will resume our regular meetings on Jan. 28, 2020.

Holiday Ministry Reminders

In response to longstanding requests by many parishioners, St. John’s will change our Saturday Vigil Mass to 4 pm (instead of 5 pm), beginning Jan. 1. Confessions will be heard from 3:15 to 3:45 pm or, as always, by appointment at the Parish House: (610) 874-3418. These new times will continue on a trial basis for the rest of the winter, when we will determine whether to make the change sea-sonal or permanent. For any questions, please contact Mary at [email protected] or (610) 874-3418 x 106.

March 24: Feast of Blesed A

O nce again, our parish is in full swing this busy holiday season to bring light, love and support to hundreds

of families and individuals who are ill, lonely, homeless or in crisis. There are many ways to lift up someone in need this season. Please take a look, and consider where you may be called to help. We are grateful for your generous support of these efforts.

Final Week! Adopt a Family. St. John’s Adopt-A-Family Ministry lightens the load of needy families during the holi-days by bringing together fami-lies, friends, co-workers and other groups to adopt the needs of a referred family. Our list of recipients grows every year. Gifts will be delivered Satur-day, Dec. 14. We also appreciate financial donations or Target gift cards to help defray our costs. Contact: Linda Elser (610-613-3083 or [email protected]).

Final Week! St. Nicholas Project. A parish tradition, our St. Nicholas Project serves hundreds of individuals each year by placing their needs on tags in trees in church. Please take a tag by Dec. 8 and follow the in-structions carefully. All items MUST be returned by noon Sunday, Dec. 15,

for immediate delivery. Tagged items indicate: Toys for children served by CityTeam and others; Individually requested gifts for low-income, elderly

and disabled residents of Kinder Park in Woodlyn (these gifts are delivered by our Youth Group at a Christmas Party they host); and

Tea and treats for our homebound and bereaved. Contact: Mary Chollet ([email protected] or 610-874-3418 x 106). Final Week! Advent Angels. Angels help us remember our homebound, ill and bereaved at Christmas. Volunteers are

needed to deliver poinsettias and small treats (all provided) to homes beginning Dec. 15. Pick up flowers and gifts from 9 to 1 Sunday, Dec. 15, in the Lower Church Hall and deliver that week on your own schedule. Contact Theresa White ([email protected] or 610-874-3418 x 110).

Register Now! Tuesday, Dec. 31. Red Cross Blood Drive. Close the year on a life-saving note. Donate blood from 8 am to 1 pm in the Low-er Church Hall. Reservations recom-mended. Sign up at www.redcrossblood.org (sponsor code st. john).

Jan. 4-12. Winter Coat Drive. Our annual after-Christmas drive seeks clean, gently used men’s, women’s and children’s coats, hats, gloves, mittens, scarves, boots and other warm outerwear (no indoor cloth-ing items, please). Please empty pockets, and fasten pairs of gloves. Drop off items in dona-tion barrels in church. No donations accepted before Jan. 4. Contact: Mary Chollet ([email protected] or 610-874-3418 x 106).

Now & Always. Meals Need-ed. Our Aid for Friends and St. John’s Hospice ministries need individual meals and simple casseroles every day of the year to support needy, ill, homeless and homebound families and individuals in Chester and Philadelphia. Con-tributing is so easy, and so needed. Pick up instructions and supplies at the church ex-its and Parish House. Contacts: SJH: Ellie Murray (610-566-7626 or [email protected]) AFF: Lou Bachetti (610-416-6068 or [email protected])

Now & Always. Toiletry Drive. All of those travel-size and spare toiletries pil-ing up in your closet are in tremendous demand by local charities that serve peo-ple in need. Please drop them off at the Parish House or send them to PREP class with your child. Please, sealed and uno-pened items only. Thank you!

Please Help Us Serve Others This Christmas ‘Whatever you did for the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me’

Parishioner Bill Peck drops off Aid for Friends meals at the Parish House. “Chef” Peck is a stalwart AFF cook, preparing up to 30 meals each month! Thank you, Bill, and all cooks!

Celebrating Advent with Music, Giving and Joy At Mother of Providence, the spirit of Ad-vent and the anticipation of Christmas are seen throughout the school! Our band, vio-lin and recorder students are preparing for their annual Christmas Concert at 10 am and

7 pm this Tuesday. Prayer partners are meeting for ser-vice projects and Advent crafts, and we celebrated St.

Nicholas Day, with a gift for each student in his or her shoe Friday! All are invited to our annual Christmas Pageant at 7 pm Thurs-day, Dec. 19, in SJC church. Enjoy the sounds of Christmas with a song by each grade, the first per-formance of this year’s Bell Choir,

and a Nativity tableau by our fifth grade.
