From Father Brad: Psalm 121 begins:
I lift up my eyes to the mountains— where does my help come from?My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.
God has always used mountains to convey his presence, Mount Sinai, Mount Zion, The Mount of Beatitudes, Calvary. It’s pretty good symbolism if you think about it. They are big, impressive, and they go up and remind us of heaven, and when we’re on them, the air is a bit thinner and our minds are a bit clearer.
That’s why I decided to take 5 members of our youth group to the Mountains of the Pisgah National Forest this summer. We weren’t glamping, we were camping, hiking, sliding off of waterfalls and trying desperately not to have bears raid our site. The bears didn’t, but a few raccoons did!
All the while we prayed and received Jesus in the Eucharist at Mass. I believe everyone had a good time. I believe that because they mostly slept the entire way back.
If you are a high schooler or you have one in your family, know that you or your family members can do things like this too! Just join the youth group. It’s easy, fun, and helps you recognize that you don’t have to separate your faith life from your fun life. Here are a couple of pictures that prove it.

Two job openings in our cluster parishes 1. Director of Facilities: help maintain the physical plant of three church parishes. Includes project management and supervision of maintenance staff and contractor work.2. Installation of New Bishop The Installation of our new Bishop will take place on Friday, August 24, 2018, at 2:00 p.m. at St. Joseph Cathedral. This is a ticketed event and each parish/cluster has been allotted a specific number of tickets. If you would like to be considered to attend the event, please fill out a flyer located at the doors of the church and place it in the basket. If you and your spouse wish to go together, please fill one form for the two of you. We will accept requests this weekend and the drawing will be held prior to August 5.
Knights of Columbus #11857 Fundraising Dinner The dinner will consist of Half Baked Chicken, Rice Dressing, Corn for $9.00 per plate. It will be held on Sunday, August 5, 2018 10:30 am till 12:00 noon, drive through at Our Lady of Peace Church.Place your order by texting your name, phone number and how many dinners you want to purchase for: Derrill Hymel - 985-688-5694, Blaise Gravois - 985-688-4280. Good Children Fundraising Dinner The Good Children Society will have a fundraiser on Saturday, August 25 from
11:00am - 2:00pm at the Good Children Hall in Vacherie The meal will consist of fried chicken, peas, potato salad, and rice dressing. The donation is $8.00 per ticket. For tickets call Mildred Armour at 265-2860 or Marvel Raphael - 265-4830. Tickets will also be sold on August 11 & 12 and August 18 & 19 in front of the church. Thanks for your support.
New Altar Servers Needed If you are interested in becoming an Altar Server at Our Lady of Peace Church, please contact Becky Gravois by August 12, 2018. A new class will be starting soon.
Baby Bottle Fundraiser The Baby Bottle Fundraiser ends this weekend. If you took a bottle and didn’t bring it back you can drop it off at any of the parish offices
through Aug. 2, so we can get the donations and the bottles back to Thibodaux. Thank you to everyone who supported this tri-parish project.
St. James Gospel Choir will have a meeting on Thursday, August 2, 2018 after choir practice. Please make plans to attend.
Remembering the Vacherie Mission Everyone who was a part of the Vacherie Mission at any time in the past ten years is invited to gather at the 11 a.m. Mass on Sunday, August 5 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Baton Rouge. All those who helped with the mission, provided bath houses or who had work done on their home or property are invited and encouraged to attend.
