† Deceased Members of the Reuter Family† Fr Bill Seipp

From Our Pastor:From Our Pastor:On this Divine Mercy Sunday, the Second Sunday of the Easter Season, we read

in the Gospel of Saint John 20:19-31, Acts 2:42-47, Psalm 118, and 1 Peter 1:3-9, about the infinite mercy and love of Jesus Christ, as Jesus is always ready to forgive us, with divine love, compassion, kindness and generosity – that by His Passion, Death, Resurrection and Ascension into Heaven, Jesus has won the victory over sin and death and has redeemed us and wrought for us eternal life in Heaven The Church throughout the world also concludes a Novena today to the Divine Mercy, a nine-day devotional prayer that we began on Good Friday We do all this, by God’s grace, even in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, when some people might be losing their trust in God It’s good for us all to remember that we might not be able to control the pandemic, but we can control our response by being more faithful, hopeful and loving disciples of Jesus Christ, being merciful in our words and deeds, being more patient and kind with everyone, family, friends and co-workers We’re getting through this challenging time with God’s help Indeed, we might be practicing social distancing, but never spiritual distancing, for Jesus is with us always (Matthew 28:20)

God calls us to respond to His mercy (His infinite compassion, love and forgiveness): to believe in, follow and love Him, and to remember our ABC’s: Ask for His mercy, Be merciful and Completely trust in Him By God’s grace, amazingly, we can both receive and communicate God’s mercy When we receive His grace in the Sacraments (Holy Eucharist and Confession, for example; making a spiritual Communion with our Lord during this pandemic), Jesus Christ enfolds us in His infinite mercy and He strengthens us to be instruments of His mercy and love, to live the spiritual and corporal works of mercy, which are charitable actions in which we help our neighbors in their spiritual and bodily necessities (Catechism of the Catholic Church #2447) Someone who did not respond to God’s mercy was Judas Iscariot, who seemed to refuse God’s mercy and collapsed in on himself in despair Let us pray that Judas sought our Lord’s mercy before he died Let us pray for our world, our families and ourselves, “God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, by Your mercy sustain us Give us Your grace to love you with all our being and our neighbor as ourselves”

Regarding spiritual and corporal works of mercy, Jesus said that as you did it to one of the least of My brothers and sisters, you did it to Me (Matthew 25:31-46; Isaiah 58; Hebrews 13); and He tells us to: feed the hungry; give drink to the thirsty; clothe the naked; shelter the homeless; visit the sick; visit the imprisoned; and bury the dead In Sacred Scripture and Church history, God calls us to: counsel the doubtful; instruct the ignorant; admonish the sinner; comfort the sorrowful; forgive injuries; bear wrongs patiently; and pray for the living and the dead

In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, we might be limited in what spiritual and corporal works of mercy we can do, but we can participate in at least some of them, right now, by praying for: the dead; those who are mourning; the sick, injured and suffering; health-care workers; first responders and US military personnel; moms, dads and their babies; strong marriages; the elderly; the orphaned and widowed; the jobless; the homeless; and all those committed to helping others We can feed the hungry, give drink to the thirsty, clothe the naked and shelter the homeless by participating in such organizations as our Knights of Columbus and Council of Catholic Women, by helping with our Family Promise host week (this week!), and by giving of our time and treasure to our local food pantry and thrift stores, to various Catholic charities, including pro-life groups, such as Pro-Life Wisconsin, Wisconsin Right to Life, Clarity Clinic in Platteville, Women’s Care Center in Madison, and Priests for Life Let us continue to pray: Jesus, have mercy on us and on the whole world. And Jesus, I trust in You. Amen Alleluia!

With peace and prayers in Christ,Fr. William Vernon

FAMILY PROMISE NEWSOur host week for Family Promise begins this Sunday, April 19 However it will be very different from any other host week Because of COVID-19, and the need to protect everyone, the families in the program have been staying day and night at the Day Center No volunteers will be needed this week. Logan Noe, the director of Family Promise, will be doing the evening and overnight duties, and Terry who normally drives the van, will be assisting during the days BUT what we will need this week is food for the families Peg Jonas or Bill Manthe have been and will be contacting people to ask assistance with our needs If you already know that you can bring in food or cook a meal for this week, please let Bill or Peg know Thank You for your help!

SPIRITUAL COMMUNION PRAYERMy Jesus, I believe that you are present in the most Blessed

Sacrament I love You above all things and I desire to receive You into my soul Since I cannot now receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart I embrace You as if You were already there, and unite myself wholly to You Never permit me to be separated from You Amen

REMINDER FOR RICE BOWL DONATIONSPlease drop-off the rice bowl donations to the parish office as

soon as possible Checks should be made payable to St Clement Parish One check from church along with a check from St Clement School family donations will be sent to the Missionaries of Charity, the order founded by Saint Teresa of Calcutta, as well as to Mary’s Meals (marysmealsorg)

FAITH FORMATION AT HOMEHappy Divine Mercy Sunday! FORMED has excellent offerings

to learn more about St Faustina Kowalska (1905-1938) and the visions she had with our Lord Jesus Christ over the course of many years She recorded these conversations with our Lord in her Diary, and at the instruction of Jesus, she had the Divine Mercy image painted Three videos on FORMED include: “Faustina and the Spread of Divine Mercy” with Fr Michael Gaitley; “Ocean of Mercy” which examines three great saints who spread the message of mercy, namely St Maximillian Kolbe, St Faustina, and Pope St John Paul II; and “The Face of Mercy,” narrated by Jim Caviezel and produced by the Knights of Columbus, that traces the message of mercy of our Lord Jesus and how His mercy has transformed the lives of five individuals You can find these videos, and many more, at FORMEDorg To find other offerings, click on “search” and type in “Divine Mercy”

THANK YOU!We want to give a huge thank you to the people who helped

decorate our church for Holy Week and now the Easter Season Emil and Pauline Everix, Bill Manthe, Andrea McMahon, Judy Mumm and Judy Vesperman decorated the inside of the church, and Judy Behncke made the bows and door hanging that graces the outside Even though we can’t worship publicly, we felt it was important to have the church reflect these sacred days when people come into the church to pray Thank you to everyone who donated to our Easter flowers this year We are truly grateful to everyone for giving of their time and talents to beautifully decorate our church for each season, as well as the watering of flowers that goes with it for weeks after We get so many compliments from others about the beauty of St Clement Church, and this is due to the real care and pride that so many people have in making it so In addition to the church being beautiful, we have an even more beautiful Parish Family!

Jesus Promises Great Graces through this image & these prayers:

O Blood and Water, which gushed forth from the Heart of Jesus

as a fount of mercy for us, I trust in You! (3x)

Chaplet of Divine MercyOn rosary beads, begin:

On the Our Father beads, pray: Eternal Father, I offer You the Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity of Your dearly beloved Son, Our

Lord Jesus Christ in atonement for our sins and those of the whole world

On the Hail Mary beads, pray: For the sake of His sorrowful Passion, have mercy on us and on the whole world

In conclusion, pray three times: Holy God, Holy Mighty One, Holy Immortal One, have mercy on us and on the whole world

(Offer these prayers at 3:00 p.m., if possible.)
