St. Bruno Parish is a mul -cultural community, founded in 1912, that welcomes everyone to worship God, especially through the Holy Eucharist and Perpetual Adora on, to grow in the faith and to serve the less fortunate in order to be light and truth for others.

REFLECTIONS / REFLECCIONES Tercer domingo del tiempo ordinario Dos lecturas hoy se refieren a la región noreste del antiguo Israel: "la tierra de Zabulón y la tierra de Neftalí". Al escu-char estos nombres, algunos de nosotros podríamos consul-tar mapas y determinar exactamente dónde se encuentran estas regiones. Otros pueden dejar que los nombres descono-cidos pasen desapercibidos. Si no hay mapas útiles, pero no queremos ignorar las referencias por completo, considere esto: es posible que no conozcamos la latitud y longitud de Zabulón y Neftalí, pero Dios sí. Alabamos a Dios por vigilar cada centímetro de tierra y mar, cuidando perfectamente a cada criatura del planeta. Mientras Isaías celebra la profun-didad del cuidado de Dios con "abundante gozo y gran regocijo", San Pablo nos ruega que recordemos cómo el Se-ñor muestra este amoroso cuidado: a través de la cruz. En el Evangelio de hoy, Jesús llama a Pedro, Santiago y Juan para que lo sigan. También lo seguimos, confiando en que Dios nos acompaña, donde sea que estemos. BELLEZA Y VERDAD Hoy la poesía de Isaías nos inunda con una belleza deslum-brante:La angustia ha tomado vuelo, disipada es la oscuri-dad:porque no hay tristeza donde pero ahora había an-gustia.Las líneas de Isaías nos encantan con su música, así como con su significado. ¿No nos hemos sentido agobiados por la tristeza y la angustia? ¿No anhelamos todos el fin de la oscuridad? Isaías promete que la majestuosa fuerza de Dios aplasta nuestra angustia, eliminando nuestros prob-lemas en una brisa. Estas palabras son encantadoras, pero ¿qué significan para nosotros realmente, cuando nuestras luchas cotidianas son tan reales? ¿Cómo puede ser cierto que la oscuridad se disipa cuando tantos de nosotros sufrimos terriblemente? DOSIS DIARIA DE LUZ Jesús nos asegura: "Dios es luz, y en él no hay oscuridad en absoluto" (1 Juan 1: 5b). Pero, ¿cómo, exactamente, supera la luz de Dios la oscuridad que aún experimentamos? Third Sunday in Ordinary Time Two readings today refer to the northeast region of an-cient Israel: “the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphta-li.” Upon hearing these names, some of us might consult maps and determine exactly where these regions lie. Oth-ers might let the unfamiliar names drift by unnoticed. If no maps are handy—but we don’t want to ignore the ref-erences completely—consider this: we might not know the latitude and longitude of Zebulun and Naphtali, but God does. We praise God for watching over every inch of land and sea, caring perfectly for each creature on the planet. While Isaiah celebrates the depth of God’s care with “abundant joy and great rejoicing,” Saint Paul begs us to remember how the Lord shows this loving care: through the cross. In today’s Gospel, Jesus calls Peter, James, and John to follow him. We follow too, confident that God accompanies us, wherever we are. BEAUTY AND TRUTH Today the poetry of Isaiah washes over us with stunning beauty:

Anguish has taken wing, dispelled is darkness:

for there is no gloom where but now there was distress.

Isaiah’s lines enchant us with their music as well as with their meaning. Haven’t we all felt burdened by gloom and distress? Don’t we all long for an end to darkness? Isaiah promises that God’s majestic strength crushes our an-guish, blowing away our troubles on a breeze. These words are lovely, but what do they mean for us really, when our day-to-day struggles are so real? How can it be true that darkness is dispelled, when so many of us suffer terribly? DAILY DOSES OF LIGHT Jesus assures us: “God is light, and in him there is no darkness at all” (1 John 1:5b). But how, exactly, does God’s light overcome the darkness that we still experi-ence? Saint Paul shows us how: through the cross. To-day’s reading from Paul’s First Letter to the Corinthians implores Jesus’ followers to get along with one another, to “be united in the same mind and in the same purpose.” We believe that two thousand years ago, Jesus saved the world and destroyed darkness; but until Jesus comes again, we must unite as the Body of Christ to continue pushing back the gloom of sin and division. As followers of Jesus, we work against these evils in simple ways. We intentionally attempt genuine conversation with a person we find irritating; we ignore gossip and refuse to talk be-hind someone’s back; we befriend an awkward or needy individual. These daily doses of light bring hope to our world, which is both redeemed and not yet finished. Jesus wants our help. Like Peter, James, and John in today’s Gospel, we are called by Christ to participate in salvation. Jesus chooses us, calls us, and invites us to accompany him—and imitate him—as we live in, and wait for, the Light of the World. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.

Catechism Corner by Kacey Carey , DRE Jesus "withdrew" or went into quiet mode in Galilee. He knew his destiny was about to unfold and needed to prepare. When we go on a retreat, we emerge refreshed, with a newfound focus and a resolve to do better. Jesus started to gather his disciples, speaking so persuasively that they immediately dropped their nets and followed him. He built his team, gathering men of all different backgrounds and talents. If we have a choice in whom to surround ourselves with, we pick l ike-minded individuals, people who bring out the best in us. Some on our team are people we did not pick,like family members, coworkers or fellow parishioners. Some of these individuals may try our patience. If we claim to be Christ's disciples, we often must tolerate individuals with whom we would not choose to associate. So, in building our team, we groom the ones who want to gossip by verbalizing something good in the one criticized. We change the hostile individuals by being overly nice to them. We charm the serious ones with humor and laughing at our own mistakes. We sent out reminders to those who always do things at the last minute. And we quickly forgive them when they are late. We pray for the ones who are always fault finding, angry or inapproachable. In building our teams, we balance the deficits of others with our own talents. And we ask them to make up for our short comings with their reciprocal talents. We are all works in progress. Jesús "se retiró" o entró en modo silencioso en Gali-lea. Sabía que su destino estaba a punto de desarrol-larse y necesitaba prepararse. Cuando vamos a un retiro, salimos renovados, con un enfoque recién descubierto y la determinación de mejorar. Jesús comenzó a reunir a sus discípulos, hablando tan per-suasivamente que inmediatamente dejaron caer sus redes y lo siguieron. Creó su equipo, reuniendo hombres de diferentes orígenes y talentos. Si tene-mos la opción de rodearnos, elegimos personas de ideas afines, personas que sacan lo mejor de no-sotros. Algunos en nuestro equipo son personas que no elegimos, como miembros de la familia, com-pañeros de trabajo o compañeros feligreses. Algunas de estas personas pueden probar nuestra paciencia. Si afirmamos ser discípulos de Cristo, a menudo debemos tolerar a las personas con las que no elegi-mos asociarnos. Entonces, al construir nuestro equi-po, preparamos a los que quieren cotillear verbali-zando algo bueno en el criticado. Cambiamos a los individuos hostiles siendo demasiado amables con ellos.
