My Dear Parishioners,
Over the past few months, we have
been hearing a lot about this "Jubilee
Year of Mercy," proclaimed by Pope
Francis, which he launched on Dec. 8,
2015, when he opened and walked through
the Holy Door at St. Peter's Basilica in
Rome. The walking through the Holy
Door is meant to symbolize the entering into a "new room"
in our life. A new room actually in our heart, where we dis-
cover in a new way the mercy of God, a mercy we are meant
to share with others.
Pope Francis has built his whole Pontificate on what he
believes is the central core of the Gospel: namely that just as
the mercy Jesus showered upon His apostles, (especially
after they abandoned Him) transformed their lives, so too
that same mercy can transform our lives as well. God's mer-
cy can make us what the apostles became: ambassadors of
mercy to those who offended them.
Let's be honest: it sounds good on paper, but it's very hard
to forgive an enemy, or someone who has hurt us or some-
one we love, especially if that person received nothing but
goodness and kindness from us. Very often, as I'm hearing
confessions, penitents will honestly and humbly say,
"Monsignor, I have such a difficult time forgiving." Pope
Francis believes that if we can soften our hearts and open our
hearts to people, we will have a much freer, happier life.
To help us unlock the meaning of this Holy Year of Mer-
cy, I have asked Fr. David Friel, the preacher for this year's
Lenten Mission, to design his mission talks around that
theme. The Lenten Mission, which begins tonight, has three
different parts: The Meaning of Mercy, the Need for Mer-
cy and the Beauty of Mercy. Knowing Fr. Friel as I do, I'm
sure he has prayerfully prepared and will deliver very power-
ful and effective mission talks, that will not only inform our
minds, but strike our hearts.
I strongly encourage families and friends to come as a
group, and discuss what you hear together. Confessions will
be heard on Sunday and Monday evening of the Mission,
immediately after the service. The service is brief, so as to
allow us more time to hear Fr. Friel's words.
Hope to see you at our Parish Lenten Mission, which be-
gins tonight. It might be the best thing we will do for Lent!
May God Bless You,
St. Bede 103 February 21, 2016

Psalm 103
1 Corinthians 10: 1-6, 10-12
Luke 13: 1-9 Our first reading sets the stage for the other two: God hears the
Chosen People’s cry in Egypt, and acts decisively to save them. But
Saint Paul says that not all of them were saved in the end. What
was needed was repentance, the repentance of which Jesus speaks
in the Gospel. Let us listen closely for God’s message of repent-
ance and redemption.

During the month of February, we
practice the virtue of Charity. Charity is
the last and greatest of the theological
virtues. Charity allows us to love God
above all else for His own sake, and to
love our neighbor for the love of God.
Our Lord gave a new command to love one another as I
have loved you. Through our school mission, we build Catholic lead-
ers through various ways of Christian service and chari-
ty. Our Student Council and National Junior Honors So-
ciety work hard each month to raise money and aware-
ness for a specific charity. Most importantly, each day
our students pray for all of the special intentions of our
school community which includes you, our parishion-
ers.
As we promote service, may our kindness and gener-
osity to others change lives, better neighborhoods, and
create stronger nations.

50th Anniversary
Commemorative Book We are getting closer to the completion of our 50th Anni-
versary Commemorative Book. This book will be worthy of
display in your home, on the coffee table, or as a gift.
The book will contain over 100 pages of history, stories,
pictures and personal testimonials from former priests, reli-
gious, etc., that will help us to cherish and preserve the mem-
ories of 50 years for generations to come.
The anniversary committee would like to invite as many
parishioners as possible to be a part of this historical record.
A special section of the book will contain a listing of the
names of book patrons, living and deceased. A donation of
$30 for a single line listing in this section will also entitle the
donor to a free copy. Below you will find a sample form to
assist you in making a listing in this special section. We ask
that you complete the form and attach it to your donation, and
drop it off at the Rectory by the Feb. 29 deadline.

Acts of Mercy On March 13, 2015, Pope Francis beautifully said that, "Mercy
shows the beating heart of Christ." As we continue our efforts in the
pro-life movement, we can be a witness to God's mercy when we
encounter pregnant mothers, and also those working in the abortion
industry.
Please consider joining one of the local 40 Days for Life cam-
paigns taking place in West Chester, Philadelphia and Norristown.
This is a truly wonderful way to make an act of mercy. Sign up for an
hour at www.40daysforlife.com.
Praying at the Planned Parenthood at 600 Louis Drive in Warmin-
ster on Friday mornings is a great Lenten activity. There are always
people there, outside by the curb, praying on Fridays, when the abor-
tions occur. This is nearby, requires little effort or time, and saves
lives. Bring a friend!

"Why Eucharistic Adoration"? Why should you spend
time visiting with Jesus in the Eucharist, simply because Jesus
himself, your best friend, invites you. He said it so warmly,
"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened. Come
to me and I will refresh you". Take a little time out for a private visit with your best
friend, Jesus. The whole purpose of our human existence is to
live forever with the Blessed Trinity in heaven, to enjoy forev-
er, the victory of Jesus over sin and death. We get a foretaste
of that eternal happiness and peace when we visit and adore
Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament.
This is why thousands of people from all across our country
will testify that one hour each week with Jesus in the Blessed
Sacrament is the most peaceful, the most satisfying hour of
their whole week. (Fr. Robert Goedert, O.P.) Our parish is blessed to have a perpetual adoration chapel
that is open 24 hours every day. Please stop by and visit the
Lord in our chapel adjacent to the parish offices in the St.
Katharine Drexel Center. Your visit can be as long or brief as
your daily schedule permits. What a wonderful addition to
your Lenten devotions!
For more information or to sign up for a scheduled open
hour, please contact Sean & Debbie McDermott (215)-504-
