———CALENDAR OF THE WEEK———

Dear Parishioners and Visitors,

It might seem hard to believe, but this

weekend marks the one year anniversary of the beginning

of the parish linkage between Our Lady of Good Counsel

and St. Ambrose. This was the weekend that I officially

started at St. Ambrose, and this is the weekend that the

Mass schedule changed, the Vigil Mass was transferred

from 5pm to 4pm and combined into one Mass at St. Am-

brose, and the first weekend that the 7pm Mass was trans-

ferred to OLGC. As big as all of those changes were, I am

pleased to report that, despite the normal stress that comes

with change, and the inability to please everyone, yet have

we not only weathered the changes well, but we are becom-

ing even stronger parish communities as a result, fully

equipped to continue the work of this linkage in a spirit of

trust and cooperation, with the promotion of the Gospel as

our primary focus.

Here’s a short list of some of the strengths I see

from this linkage. First, all weekend Masses are quite well

attended…we average about 1,400 people per weekend at

all five Masses. Financially, both parishes are adjusting to

the normal (but temporary) decline in income that results

from any linkage. Both parishes continue to have a healthy

number of baptisms and weddings scheduled. Both parish

staffs are working well together. Liturgical ministers,

members of both choirs and Altar Rosary, and members of

all parish organizations are working to ensure that members

of both parishes feel invited to participate. And, I’m still

sane!!! (Relatively speaking, of course!) I am so happy

that we are moving in the right direction. While there is

still work to be done, let’s give thanks for all that by God’s

grace and your cooperation has been accomplished in one

short year. You should be very pleased.

May God bless you, Fr. Michael

A FAMILY PERSPECTIVE from

the Office of Family Life Education (A

Hope Appeal Agency)

Today’s gospel is so familiar, it hurts! The

hometown folks could not accept the presence of God in

Jesus. After all, they had watched him grow up. We can

easily make the same mistake if we do not see God present

in the ordinary routines of our family. “The Lord is with

you” is a statement of fact. Believe it. Live it.
