Dear Friends in Christ,
“The seed sown among thorns is the one who hears the
word but then the cares of the world and the lure of rich-
es choke the word and it bears no fruit.” (Mt 13:22).
Does the lure of riches and material goods choke God out
of your life? Are you so caught up in earthly activities
that you have no time for God? Gratitude and generosity
are virtues that we should strive to do daily. Every deci-
sion we make either takes us one step closer to God or
one step further away. What we receive at Mass every
Sunday should be shared with others all the other days of
the week as well.
Saint Aloysius Catholic Church A Discipleship Parish
Today we welcome Fr. Patrick Tobin, O.P. from Chica-
go who will preside at the Masses in my absence. You
will remember him as the director of our Shrine of St.
Jude in Chicago who was here when we had the three
days in honor of St. Jude. Fr. Patrick and I are still talk-
ing about what it might mean for St. Al’s Parish to be
satellite site of the Chicago Shrine. Welcome to St. Al’s,
Fr Patrick!!
Fr. Kevin Mann from St. Cabrini will respond in my ab-
sence to any sacramental emergencies and funerals.
Please call Debbie in the office if you need the services
of Fr. Kevin. Deacon Jim will be having a live streamed
Liturgy of the Word with a Eucharistic Blessing daily at
8:00am in my absence and I will be leading the rosary
from Iowa. Let us continue to pray for one another.
Special thanks to Ronda Mill and Ed Strode for picking
up Bingo leadership as the COVID-19 quarantine sub-
sides. Ronda and Ed are looking for volunteers to help at
Bingo. Please help if you are able; especially if you have
students in our school as it receives the lion’s share of
the funds raised. Volunteering cannot be left to the faith-
ful few but must call each of us to help. During the
course of the year, Bingo will generate about $30K – or
so. So, we cannot afford to quit. Won’t you help? Con-
tact Ronda, Ed, or the parish office to volunteer.
As I write this note, I am sitting in the family room of
my parents’ home after a 9-hour drive to Iowa. It was a
beautiful day to travel: the sun was warm, a gentle
breeze, a cloudless blue sky, green fields of grain... The
silos of Iowa which once broke the lush distant vistas as
they marked the place of a farm are now dwarfed by
windmill turbines. Oh, for the Iowa of my youth.
St. Aloysius, intercede for us that we might find the
courage to care for others during our pandemic like you
did during yours.
Be assured of my prayers for your and your family’s
health… see you on-line!
With Pastoral Affection,
Fr. Clint, O.P.

Planning has started for the 2020-2021 school year at St. Aloysius! With
guidance from the Illinois State Board of Education and the Diocesan Office of Edu-
cation, our Re-Opening Task Force is evaluating the best way to meet student needs
as we resume in-person learning. Parents were asked to fill out a survey about their
2019-2020 experience with distance learning so we can better guide that process
should we need to resume e-learning at some point next year. Please know that our
number one goal is to have students back in our building. While I know there will be
changes, it is my hope that at St. Al’s our changes will be minimal in order to meet
the needs of our students and families while operating within the guidelines that will
be put forth by the State. The first day of school is Monday, August 17!
St. Aloysius School is continuing to enroll students through the summer months.
We are a preschool thru 8th grade, north-end Springfield faith community served by
award-winning faculty and dedicated staff! We provide extra-curricular activities and
offer IESA, as well as SCAA, sports teams, an art and music program, and a STEM
curriculum. If you know someone interested in St. Aloysius School, please have them
e-mail Angie Daniels or Denise Reavis for more information.
School Office Hours…The school office will be open on Wednesdays from
9:00am-noon. Mrs. Reavis and Mrs. Daniels can be reached at 544-4553 or by e-mail.
The parish office is open from 9:00am-noon Monday –Thursday.
Please remember that if your child is entering preschool, Pre-K, Kindergarten, or the
6th grade a Physical Examination must be completed with-in one calendar year
prior to the date of entry. The exam must include up-to-date immunizations and a
medical history. Students entering Kindergarten, 2nd, and 6th grades will need a den-
tal exam. Also students entering Kindergarten will also need an eye exam performed
by a licensed optometrist. Exams must be completed within one year prior to the first
entrance to the required grade. The exam must be completed on the required state
“Certificate of Child Health” form. Parent Signature and completion of the Health
History section is required on this form. Current physical, dental and eye examina-
tions need to be returned to our school office prior to the start of the 2020-2021
school year.
Bingo has begun. This year, Ronda Mill has agreed to be the coordinator. Please
help Ronda keep Bingo successful by volunteering to help out. Ronda wrote: Hello
everyone. I’m the new coordinator for the bingo fundraiser for St. Aloysius School.
This is a weekly event held at Caritas Hall, located at 9th & Converse. It is one of the
more successful fundraisers for the school, bringing in a substantial amount of money
the past few years. We need volunteers to help out on Saturday mornings, 10:45am-
3:00pm. Families with children can apply these hours to their service hours required
throughout the school year. It’s easy and a lot of fun. Please consider volunteering.
You can text or call me at (217) 670-4458. Thanks!
WOW! We exceeded our goal! A huge thank you to everyone who
donated to the Annual Fund! What a true testament to the spirit of St. Aloysius that during the most difficult of times, we come together and
provide for our family! What a milestone it is this year to not only
meet our goal but to surpass it! Thank you again to our generous do-
nors and supporters.

Celebrate Bishop Paprocki’s 10 year anniversary... On
April 20, 2010, Pope Benedict XVI appointed Bishop Thomas
John Paprocki to be the ninth bishop of the Diocese of Springfield
in Illinois. Then, on June 22, 2010, Bishop Paprocki was installed
as bishop of our diocese during Mass by Francis Cardinal George,
Metropolitan Archbishop of Chicago, at a packed Cathedral of the
Immaculate Conception in Springfield. Join our diocese in cele-
brating and thanking Bishop Paprocki for his dedicated leader-
ship, advancing our faith, and his constant prayer for us over the
past 10 years. Letters of appreciation can be mailed to 1615 West
Washington St.; Springfield, IL 62702.
Dive Deep... Bishop Paprocki as you’ve never heard him before.
Join us for this special edition of Dive Deep, the
official podcast of the Diocese of Springfield in
Illinois, as we celebrate Bishop Paprocki’s 10 years

Fifteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time – July 12, 2020... Bear-ing Fruit. The plantings in our gardens weeks ago are already
bearing fruit. We have vegetables aplenty (we hope), enough to
share (we are urged). All because of the goodness and bounty of
God. How is my life rooted in “rich soil”, tilled and nourished by
God? What are the “fruits” of my life, of my very self that I can
share? How can I nourish life (God’s goodness) in my family, in
my neighborhood, in my place at work?
Alone
It’s bad. And it’s only going to get worse.
Sometimes, that’s how life can feel for us. Whether the roof’s actually
caving in on us, or we’re just getting beat down by the petty setbacks
of life. Whether it’s the one big thing, or thousands of little things that
keep piling up, really doesn’t matter much.
Because when life feels like that – no matter how we got there – it’s
easy to get tunnel vision, to get stuck. To feel like we’re all alone.
And either end up in despair. Because it’s just too much for us to han-
dle.
Or feel like we have to do it all ourselves. And finding out the hard
way that we literally can’t.
Either way, we end up in the same place. Feeling worried. Over-
whelmed. Burned out. Alone.
All because we’re making it harder on ourselves than it has to be. By
trying to do something that we were never meant to do. By trying to
do it on our own.
So what’s the alternative? What were we meant to do?
It’s simple. So simple that it’s easy to miss. In the middle of all of the
setbacks and just busyness of life.
Even in today’s Gospel. It’s easy to miss. In the middle of all of the
bad things that Jesus talks about.
You and I were never meant to go through life feeling abandoned and
stuck.
You and I were never meant to do it alone.
But sometimes, that is what it feels like. Like we are one our own.
Actually, that feeling that we are alone? That’s the great lie that being
overwhelmed tells us.
But no matter how loud that lie is. No matter how strong that feeling
is. No matter what it feels like. It cannot change the simple reality that
God will never abandon you.
Even when you can’t feel it, God is still there.
In the words of Pope St. John Paul II, “Remember that you are never
alone. Christ is with you on your journey every day of your life!
He has called you and chosen you to live in the freedom of the chil-
dren of God.
Turn to Him in prayer and in love. Ask Him to grant
you the courage and strength to live in this freedom
always.”

Going to Mass. Please arrive tot church at least 10 minutes before Mass begins. Masks
are required if you wish to enter church. Hand sanitizers will be availa-
ble in the vestibule. The ushers will direct you to your seat. Every other
row of pews will be taped off and tape marks will be placed on the pews
for social distancing. Families living in the same house may sit togeth-
er, but otherwise you are asked to observe the markings. There will be
no missalettes (they have been taped off and there will be no bulletins
( they will be emailed on Fridays) You may bring your own missal but please take with
you when you leave. The collection basket will be placed in the middle of church for your
donation. You can still drop your envelopes off at the rectory mailbox or by mail. Follow-
ing social spacing and guidelines it was certainly a successful start to what will hopefully
be a steady return to regularity. Bulletin are online only. Thank you for your cooperation.
Face Masks … A gentle reminder that we are still required to wear Face Masks (Phase
4) as we enter and exit the Church. And as always it is recommended to wear a mask dur-
ing your entire time in the church building for the safety of all.
Act of Spiritual Communion... A Prayer by St. Alphonsus Liguori … My Jesus, I be-
lieve that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love You above all things, and I
desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramen-
tal, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there and
unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen.
We will continue to live stream Mass on Sunday, weekday Mass and the rosary. We will
also provide communion services after the weekend masses to those unable to go to Mass.
The Parish office is open 9:00-noon (Monday-Thursday) to the public. In the afternoons
we will be working on details (moving storerooms, files, archives of various sorts, etc.) at
the Rectory and on campus. Our weekly bulletin will be accessible through our parish
website. This is the best way to know what is going on in the parish. You can also sign up
to receive Flocknotes. Instruction our on the website.
Please note… This week (July 13-17) there will be no weekday mass. There will be Lit-
urgy of the Word and Eucharist Blessing each day at 8:00am. The rosary will be live
streamed each day at 3:00pm on Facebook (Tuesday-Friday).
In your June envelopes you will find a yellow envelope for St. Aloysius School Tui-tion Assistance. These monies will go to help those families, who have been approved
through our FACTS Tuition Grant and Aid Assessment Program, qualify for financial as-
sistance to attend our school. We are deeply appreciative for your support of this special
envelope.
Now is the time to consider offering RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults), to that
person who seems as though they might be interested in your Faith. No, they don’t need to
have decided anything, but perhaps are just hearing or feeling a call, or pull. RCIA is
where one can learn about the Catholic Faith without having to make a commitment. If you
know someone, perhaps ask them if they are interested and let them know you will help
them learn more about RCIA which is a way adults can enter the Church – if they choose.
Call the parish office for more information (544-4454).
Protecting God’s Children… We are in the process of mailing background check re-
newal forms to all volunteers who have reached the 5 year (or longer) expiration on their
background checks. If you received renewal forms please complete the forms ASAP.
Thank you for your dedication to St Aloysius Parish and to keeping our children and vul-
nerable adults safe
Thank you for your contributions
that keep us current on
bills, utilities, payroll, ben-
efits, and so much more.
Whenever there is a chal-
lenge or a need, St. Aloys-
ius always steps up. THANK YOU

Stewardship … Gracious and loving
God, we understand that
you call us to be stew-
ards of your abundance,

have entrusted to us.
Help us to use your gifts
wisely and to share them
generously. May our faithful steward-
