ES Un paseo por Sagunto refleja su bimilenaria histo-ria que la ha convertido en un gran mosaico de res-tos monumentales de las culturas que se asentaron en ella, teniendo como valor añadido las muestras de arqueología industrial y del urbanismo típico de las Factory Town de principios del siglo XX por la existencia de los Altos Hornos hasta mediados de los años 80. Desde la época prerromana hasta la actualidad su emplazamiento y las importantes vías de comunica-ción, antiguas calzadas romanas, han favorecido su desarrollo tanto demográfico como cultural y eco-nómico. Su economía se potencia y su tejido productivo se diversifica en los años 80 con la declaración de Zona de Preferente Localización Industrial.En el Pic dels Corbs, Aixebe, Picaio y l’Albardeta se encuentran los yacimientos con los primeros restos de vida en el municipio de Sagunto, que datan de la Edad de Bronce. A partir del siglo V a.C. las gentes que pueblan la actuales tierras saguntinas
protagonizan el nacimiento de la cultura ibérica. El oppidum situado en la montaña del Castell absorbe y capitaliza los poblados de la cuenca baja del río Palancia. La ciudad que se desarrolla se denomina Arse. En el siglo III a.C. Arse vive un momento de esplendor, que decidió al general cartaginés Aníbal doblegar la ciudad a su voluntad. En el año 219 antes de Cristo Aníbal vence y destruye la ciudad de Sagunto tras una heroica resistencia de sus habitantes, hecho que desencadena la Segunda Guerra Púnica. La victoria romana inicia una nueva etapa de gran expansión de la ciudad. A final del siglo II a.C. la ciudad acuña moneda bilingüe Arse Saguntum. En época imperial se pierde el topónimo Arse y la ciudad pasa a denominarse Saguntum. Con la decadencia del Imperio Romano sobreviene una fase de recesión y es a finales del siglo VI que Sagunto forma parte de la corona visigótica. Los reyes Sisebuto, Gundemaro y Égica-Witiza acuñan moneda con la ceca Sagunto y Morveter.Saguntum, se convierte en Murbítar con la conquista musulmana en el siglo VIII. La medina contó con
baños, palacios, mezquitas y escuelas. En el periodo de descomposición almorávide, siendo señor de Murbítar Ibn Lebun, el Cid rinde la medina temporalmente conquistada en 1098. En 1238 Jaume I conquista definitivamente la ciudad de Valencia para la cristiandad occidental y nuestra ciudad pasa a denominarse Morvedre (Morviedro en castellano). Durante la edad media conviven musulmanes, judíos y cristianos.En las guerras de Germanías, Sucesión, Independencia y Carlistas Sagunto es escenario bélico.En los primeros años del siglo XX se despliega la industria siderúrgica en el núcleo de Puerto de Sagunto hasta la década de los años 80. En 1984 los Altos Hornos del Mediterráneo se desmantelan y la ciudad es declarada Zona de Preferente Localización Industrial. A partir de entonces se diversifica progresivamente su actividad productiva y se convierte en uno de los centros económicos más importantes de la Comunidad Valenciana.

EN A stroll around Sagunto reflects the two-thousand year history that has made it an extensive mosaic of monumental remains from the cultures that settled here and which as an added value features examples of industrial and urban archaeolo-gy typical of an early 20th century factory town due to the existence of the Altos Hornos company through to the mid-1980s.
From pre-Roman times to today, its location and important communication routes, formerly Roman roads, have contributed to the city’s demographic, cultural and economic development.
The local economy was boosted and the production industry diversified in the 1980s when Sagunto was declared a Zone of Preferential Industrial Location.
Sites with the first remains of life in the municipality of Sagunto, dating back to the Bronze Age, have been found at Pic dels Corbs, Aixebe, Picaio and Albardeta. Starting in the 5th century BC, the people who populated what is now Sagunto featured in the very birth of Iberian culture. The oppidum sited on Castell moun-tain absorbed the hamlets of the lower basin of the Palancia River and became their capital. The city that developed was called Arse. Arse enjoyed a period of splendour in the 3rd century BC, which led Carthaginian general Hannibal to decide to bend it to his will. In 219 BC Hannibal defeated and destroyed the city of Sagunto following a heroic show of resistance by its inhabitants which trig-gered the Second Punic War. The Roman victory initiated a new stage of major expansion in the city. By the end of the 2nd century BC, the city was minting the bilingual currency Arse Saguntum. The name Arse was dropped in the Roman era and the city was called Saguntum. The decline of the Roman Empire ushered in a phase of recession and Sagunto finally became part of the Visigothic Kingdom in the late 6th century. The kings Sisebut, Gundemar and Égica/Wittiza named the city Sagunto y Morveter.
Saguntum became Murbitar with the Muslim conquest in the 8th century. The city boasted baths, palaces, mosques and schools. In the period of the disintegration of the Almoravid Dynasty, under Murbitar Ibn Lebun, El Cid temporarily seized the city in 1098. In 1238 Jaume I definitively conquered the city of Valencia for western Christianity and our city was renamed Morvedre (Morviedro in Spanish). Muslims, Jews and Christians lived side by side during the Middle Ages.
Sagunto was a battleground in the Revolt of the Brotherhood, the War of the Spa-nish Succession, the Spanish War of Independence and the Carlist War.
The steel industry flourished at Puerto de Sagunto in the early 20th century and continued through to the 1980s. The Altos Hornos del Mediterráneo company was dismantled in 1984 and the city declared a Zone of Preferential Industrial Location. Production activity diversified from that point on and it became an eco-nomic powerhouse of Valencia.

ES Se halla localizado sobre un cerro, última estribación de la sierra Calderona, te-niendo una longitud próxima al kilómetro.En la actualidad se encuentra rodeado por murallas de diferentes épocas y estilos, encontrándose en su interior restos iberos, romanos, medievales y modernos co-rrespondientes a las distintas culturas que en él se asentaron durante su bimilenaria existencia.El Castillo de Sagunto fue declarado Monumento Nacional en 1931. En la actualidad se halla dividido en 7 plazas o recintos independientes contemplándose desde su cima un bello paisaje de huerta y el cercano mar Mediterráneo.
EN The castle stands on a mount, the final foothill of the Calderona mountain range, and covers an area of approximately one kilometre in length.Today it is surrounded by walls from different times and in different styles and inside it boasts Iberian, Roman, medieval and modern remains from the various cultures that settled here over its two-thousand year existence.Sagunto Castle was declared a National Monument in 1931. El Teatro RomanoThe Roman Theatre
ES El teatro Romano de Sagunto, edificio que se construye a mediados del siglo I, como se ha podido documentar a través de las excavaciones arqueológicas realizadas recientemente, ha sido citado por numerosos viajeros e historiadores desde fechas muy tempranas. El Teatro Romano se sitúa en la vertiente septentrional de la colina que domina la actual ciudad, próximo a los vestigios monumentales del foro romano. Sagunto está orográficamente preparada para la implantación de un teatro en su marco urbano, debido a la gran pendiente de la montaña, que permitió tallar el graderío, facilitando u construcción y abaratando sus costes.
EN Sagunto’s Roman theatre, built in the middle of the 1st century AD, as shown by records found during the archaeological digs carried out recently, has been mentioned by numerous travellers and historians from very early times. The Roman theatre sits on the northern side of the hill that looks out over the modern city, near the monumental vestiges of the Roman forum. Sagunto was a good spot to put a theatre in because the mountainside made it easier to cut the stands into, facilitating construction while keeping costs down.

La Vía del Pórtico - The Portico RoadES La Via Romana del Pórtico (Portici Via) (s. I) es un espectacular yacimiento arqueológico musealizado, único en la Comunidad Valenciana. En sus más de 3.000 metros cuadrados excavados bajo un edificio de nueva construcción, se puede observar cómo se articulaba una vía romana, perfectamente conservada, con la ciudad. EN The Roman Portico Road (Portici Via) (1st century AD) is a stunning archaeo-logical site that has been made into a museum which is unique in Valencia. In the 3,000-plus sq metres excavated below a new-build property you can see the perfectly preserved Roman road and the way it was laid out in the city.
El Circo Romano - The Roman CircusES Se trata de una de las instalaciones lúdicas más importantes de la Saguntum romana. Destinado a la realización de competiciones de cuadrigas, se extendía junto a la orilla del río Palancia y se le calcula una capacidad para 20.000 es-pectadores. En las excavaciones han aparecido dos muros perimetrales, paralelos y separa-dos entre sí por muretes perpendiculares sobre los que se situarían las gradas de madera. El Circo se destruyó paulatinamente y especialmente a partir de 1960, al permitirse la edificación. El único elemento visible es la puerta meridional Se trata de una muestra de la potente arquitectura romana arquitrabada de enormes sillares de piedra caliza azul y estructuras anexas correspondientes a la tribuna.EN This was one of the most important leisure facilities in Roman Saguntum. Designed to hold chariot races, it ran along the bank of the Palancia River and is calculated to have had room for 20,000 spectators. Two perimeter walls appeared during the excavations, running parallel to each other and separated by a number of perpendicular low walls on which the woo-den stands would have been assembled. The Circus was slowly destroyed, par-ticularly after 1960 when building was allowed. The only visible element is the southern gate. This is an example of the powerful architraved Roman architecture of enormous blocks of blue limestone and attached structures corresponding to the stand.

Restos Muro Templo de Diana Wall Remains from the Temple of DianaES Inmediato a la plaza Mayor se encuentra el denominado “Muro del Templo de Diana”, construcción del siglo V-IV a.C. Durante el asedio de la ciudad por el caudillo cartaginés Aníbal, en el 219-218 a.C., fue el único edificio salvado de la destrucción por estar consagrado a la diosa Diana. Desde 1963 tiene la condición de Monumento Nacional.
EN Right next to the main square is the “Wall of the Temple of Diana”, built be-tween the 5th and 4th centuries BC. During the siege of the city by Carthaginian general Hannibal in 219-218 AD, it was the only building saved from destruction because it was devoted to the god-dess Diana. It has been a National Monument since 1963.
ES Edificio del siglo XIV que pudo haber sido una Lonja municipal o una carnice-ría, su interior recoge una buena muestra de la importante colección de piezas arqueológicas procedentes de excavaciones y hallazgos que se han realizado en el castillo, casco urbano y alrededores. Su colección de epigrafía latina es una de las más importantes de España. Una de las obras más importantes es el Toro Ibérico, escultura realizada en caliza del siglo IV a.C. El MUHSAG es Monumento Nacional desde 1962.EN A 14th century building that may have been a municipal market or a butcher’s, inside it features a good collection of archaeological pieces taken from digs and findings in the castle, the town centre and the outlying areas. The Latin epigraphy collection is among the most important in Spain. One of the most prized works is the 4th-century BC limestone sculpture of an Iberian bull. The museum has been a National Monument since 1962.
Casa dels Berenguer - Casa dels BerenguerES Antiguo palacio gótico con influencias renacentistas, hoy restaurado, situado en la calle Sagrario con Pl. dels Berenguer, alberga el Centro de Recepción de Visitantes e Interpretación de la ciudad. Cuenta con una sala con maquetas, paneles y audiovisuales explicativos de la historia de la ciudad y sus monumentos y otra sala de exposiciones temporales.EN A former Gothic palace with Renaissance influences, today restored, it stands on carrer del Sagrari at the corner with Placeta dels Berenguer and is home to the city’s Visitors Reception and Interpretation Centre. It has one room with models, panels and audiovisuals explaining the history of the city and its monuments and another room with temporary exhibitions.

Iglesia del Salvador - Salvador ChurchES Uno de los templos más antiguos de la diócesis valentina, situado en el arra-bal del mismo nombre y de estilo gótico primitivo Su construcción data del s. XIII cuando Jaime I mandó repoblar el arrabal de Murviedro al caballero templario Dio-nisio de San Feliu y edificar el templo. Recientemente en las investigaciones ar-queológicas que se han llevado a cabo en su interior se ha hallado la cimentación de una iglesia anterior, posiblemente la iglesia de San Juan mandada construir por el Cid y a niveles inferiores restos de época romana utilizados en las posterio-res reconstrucciones del templo. Fue declarado Monumento Nacional en 2007.EN One of the oldest churches in the Valencian diocese, located in the district of the same name and built in the early Gothic style, its construction dates back to the 13th century when Jaume I gave orders to the Templar Knight Dionis de Sant Feliu to repopulate Morvedre and to build the church. The foundations of an earlier church, possibly that of San Juan which El Cid had built, were recently found during archaeological research carried out inside, and remains from Roman times used in subsequent reconstructions of the church were discovered at lower levels. It was declared a National Monument in 2007.
La Judería - Jewish QuarterES El acceso al recinto urbano de la judería se realiza a través de un portal con arco de medio punto situado en la calle del Castillo, conocido desde el s. XV con el nombre del “Portalet de la Ju-deria” o “Portalet de la Sang”, ya que a raíz de la expulsión de los judíos por los Reyes Católicos, la sinagoga fue ocupada por la Cofradía de la Purísima Sangre de Ntro. Señor Jesucristo. La topografía urbana actual es práctica-mente la misma, manteniendo en su configuración el espíritu y tipismo que le dieron sus habitantes.
EN Entry into the urban enclosure of the Jewish Quarter is through a round-arch portal on carrer del Castell known since the 15th century as “Portalet de la Juderia” (Gate of the Jewish Quarter) or “Portalet de la Sang” (Gate of Blood) because when the Jews were expelled by the Catholic Monarchs, the synagogue was occupied by the Brotherhood of the Pure Blood. The current urban topography is practically the same, maintaining in its configuration the spirit that the former inhabitants gave to it.
Iglesia de Santa María - Church of Santa MariaES Ubicada en el lado suroeste de la plaza Mayor, de estilo gótico ojival valencia-no, se inició su construcción en 1334 en el mismo lugar que ocupaba la mezquita mayor de Murviedro concluyéndose a principios del siglo XVIII. Su interior consta de tres naves de más de veinte metros de altura, con contrafuertes que forman las capillas laterales. Todo el templo se construyó con piedras sillares extraídas de los montes cercanos. En el pretil de la escalera de acceso norte a la iglesia subsisten dos inscripciones latinas dedicadas a Voconio Plácido y a Popilia Recti-na. Fue declarada Monumento Nacional en 1982.EN Standing on the southwest side of the main square and built in the Valencian ogival Gothic style, construction began on the church, in the same place where the Morvedre great mosque had stood, in 1334. The works ended at the start of the 18th century. Inside there are three naves more than 20 metres high, with bu-ttresses that form the side chapels. The whole of the church was built from large blocks of stone extracted from the nearby hills. The parapet of the staircase in the northern entrance to the church has two Latin inscriptions dedicated to Voconio Placido and Popilia Rectina. It was declared a National Monument in 1982.

Vestigios del Puente Romano - Vestiges of the Roman BridgeES A la altura de Carrer del Remei se extendía el puente que cruzaba el río, continuación de la Vía Augusta que enlazaba con el Cardo y atravesaba todo el litoral mediterráneo. Hoy en día sólo perduran dos machones y el arranque de otro junto a la orilla norte que servían para sustentar los arcos del puente por el que atravesaba el Palancia la Vía Augusta.EN Where carrer del Remei stands today there was a bridge crossing the river, a continuation of Via Augusta which linked the city with the Cardo (the north-south street in Ancient Roman city planning) and traversed the whole of the Mediterra-nean coastline. Today only two abutments remain, along with the base of another near the northern bank which would have served to sustain the arches of the bridge where the Via Augusta crossed the Palancia River.
ES En 1256 el edificio fue donado por Jaime I de Aragón al Obispo de Valencia, para que en él efectuara la recaudación del impuesto del Diezmo. Hoy sólo se conserva la fachada con muros de sillería. En él estuvo prisio-nero Pedro IV el del “punyalet”, durante las guerras de la Unión, siendo obligado por los saguntinos a reconocer fueros y privilegios para la ciudad. Existían en la planta baja unos baños árabes con bóvedas perforadas por tragaluces y un salón mudéjar con un valioso artesonado de madera policromada.
EN Jaime I of Aragon donated the building to the Bishop of Valencia in 1256 as a place to collect tithes. Only the facade with masonry walls is preserved today. Pedro IV (known as “he of the dagger”), was kept prisoner here during the Union Wars, forced by the towns-people to recognise charters and privileges for the city. Arab baths with vaults pierced by skylights and a Mudejar hall with a va-luable polychrome wooden coffered ceiling existed on the ground floor.
ES Edificio barroco del siglo XVII con planta de cruz latina de una sola nave y bóveda de medio punto con escenas de la Pasión de Cristo pintadas al fresco en la cúpula. Es la de mayores proporciones del pueblo. Desde aquí parten la mayoría de los actos litúrgicos de la Semana Santa saguntina, y en su interior reposan los pasos pro-cesionales.
EN A baroque building from the 17th century with a La-tin-cross floor plan, a single nave and a barrel vault with scenes from the Passion of Christ painted al fresco on the dome. It is the largest chapel in the town. Most of the local religious acts marking Easter start from here, and the processional floats are kept inside.
Plaza Mayor - Main SquareES Centro comercial y cultural de la vida saguntina medieval. De forma rectangular con soportales, es el lugar donde se celebraba tradicionalmente el mercado semanal y aún conserva fustes de columna de la plaza pública romana. En la parte Noroeste puede verse la puerta del Almudín, donde antiguamente se depositaba el trigo para el abasto de la población y su venta a particulares. En una de sus fachadas se conserva el escudo cuatribarrado de la Corona de Aragón, ya que perteneció al Patrimonio Real desde el siglo XIII.EN The Plaça Major was the commercial and cultural centre of medieval life in Sagunto. With a rectangular layout and porches, a weekly market was traditionally held here and it still preserves some columns from the Roman public square. In the north-western part visitors can see the door of the Almudin, where wheat was stored to supply the town’s popula-tion and from where it was sold to private individuals. One of the facades preserves the coat of arms with the four bars of the Crown of Aragon, as it pertained to the royal assets from the 13th century onwards.
Calvario - CalvarioES Construido a mediados del siglo XIX en la ladera del monte del Castillo, sustituyó al emplazado en la calle del Calvario Viejo. Al despertar el alba del día de Viernes San-to tiene lugar la representación de la Pasión y Muerte de Jesucristo. Desde la ermita del Santísimo Cristo se do-mina un hermoso paisaje de huertas y naranjales que se extienden a lo largo del campo saguntino.
EN Built in the mid-19th century on the side of the mount where the Castle was constructed, it replaced the one that had stood on carrer del Calvari Vell. The representation of the Passion and Death of Christ takes place here at dawn on Good Friday. From the Holy Christ chapel you get a beautiful view of the crop fields and orange groves that dot the Sagunto landscape.

ES Puerto de Sagunto es el núcleo mo-derno de la ciudad, situado a orillas del mar Mediterráneo. Es conocido por sus playas, por sus gentes y por sus zonas de ocio, pero sobre todo por configurar uno de los ejemplos más importantes de Ciudad-Factoría de la Comunidad Valenciana y de España.
El conjunto Histórico Industrial de Puer-to de Sagunto se compone de elemen-tos inmuebles de muy diversa natura-leza: El Horno Alto está considerado
como el primer monumento industrial, así como de la Antigua Nave de Efectos y Repuestos con la finalidad de convertirla en un museo industrial. La Antigua Nave de Talleres Gene-rales rehabilitada por la Generalitat Va-lenciana fue sede del Festival Sagunt a Escena y es uno de los principales elementos arquitectónicos, junto a la Antigua Gerencia y el Antiguo Sa-natorio (hoy centro cívico), del patri-monio histórico industria del municipio.
EN Puerto de Sagunto is the modern hub of the city, sitting on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea. It is known for its beaches, people and leisure areas, but above all for being one of the most important examples of a factory city in Valencia and Spain.
The Puerto de Sagunto Industrial Histo-rical complex comprises buildings of a very diverse nature: The Blast Furnace is considered the leading industrial mo-
nument, along with the Materials and Spare Parts Plant, and the aim is to turn it into an industrial museum. The General Workshops building restored by the Government of Valencia was the site of the Sagunt a Escena Festival and together with the Old Management Office and Old Sanatorium (today a civic centre) is one of the core archi-tectural elements of the city’s industrial historical heritage.
El proyecto de restauración del Horno Alto ha sido galadornado con el Gran Premio de Patrimonio Cultural Europa Nostra 2012.
The Horno Alto restoration project won the 2012 Grand Prix in the EU Prize for Cultural Heritage/Europa Nostra Awards.

Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de Begoña Nuestra Señora de Begoña Church
ES Esta iglesia se configura por la recuperación de distintos estilos clásicos, lo que la dota de un carácter eclecticista. En su interior se plasma el gusto por el lenguaje renacentista, mientras que la fachada principal recupera elementos de estilo barroco. Al mismo tiempo, muestra influencias respecto a la arquitectura tradicional vasca en el anexo que conforma la Casa Abadía. Es desta-cable que se hizo a imagen y semejanza de la basílica de Begoña de Bilbao, rememorando así las raíces vascas de sus mecenas.
EN This church is configured by the recovery of different classical styles, giving it an eclectic cha-racter. The taste for the Renaissance style is embodied inside, while the principal facade boasts faux Baroque elements. At the same time, it shows influences with respect to traditional Basque architecture in the attached abbey. Of note is the fact that it was made in the image of the Begoña basilica in Bilbao, commemorating the Basque roots of its patrons.
El barrio obrero - Working Class NeighborhoodES Construido entre 1917 y 1921, refleja el carácter de una comunidad obrera. Sus viviendas destacan por su sencillez constructiva y de diseño. Las fachadas responden a un mismo patrón estético, siendo lo más significativo la utilización de arcos escarzanos para el recerco de los vanos. En la simplicidad y austeridad es donde reside la importancia histórica de estos inmuebles de promoción empresarial.
EN Built between 1917 and 1921, it reflects the character of a working class community. The houses are distinguished by their simple construction and design. The facades follow a single aesthetic pattern, the most significant being the use of segmental arches for the span surrounds. The historical importance of these properties, built by the companies where the inhabitants worked, lies in their simplicity and austerity.

Industria - IndustryEN Sagunto has a diversified economy with a very active industrial sector which, together with the services sector and agriculture, is of major significance. Through an agreement reached by Sagunto City Council, the Government of Valencia (Ministry of Industry-SEPIVA) and the state-owned industrial holding company SEPI, the largest industrial area in Spain was planned to cover a total of around 9 Mn square metres. Phase I of Parc Sagunt opened on 23 October 2007. The purpose of this massive project was to provide land to industries that required large lots and to foster industrial development in the area. There are other projects of a private initiative as well, such as the Camí a la Mar industrial estate that covers 1 Mn square metres.
Major companies, leaders in their respective sectors, are based in Sagunto today. These businesses have a huge production capacity in the steel, glass and building-materials sectors.
Leading steel companies such as Arcelor Mittal produce cold-rolled sheet and their principal clients are the Ford and General Motors factories in Spain, although they also export to the UK, Italy, the US and Belgium. Other large companies include Hierros de Levante, Ferrodisa and Thyssen Ros Casares. Also important at the European level are the glass factories Pilkington and Glaverbel-Pilkington and the building-materials manufacturers Lafarge Cementos, Dragados y Construcciones, Tumesa, etc.
There are eight industrial estates in the municipality today that altogether cover nearly 1,500 ha of land. All of these companies have major communication routes crossing the Sagunto area and an important railway link and sea port under expansion, distributing more than 7 million tonnes of varied goods. The second dock is currently under construction and the related strategic plan provides for the construction of a third, set to make Sagunto one of the leading ports in Spain.
ES Sagunto cuenta con una economía diversificada, con un sector industrial muy activo que junto a los sectores de servicios y de agricultura alcanza una importancia significativa. Mediante un convenio entre el Ayuntamiento de Sagunto, la Generalitat Valenciana (Conselleria de Industria-SEPIVA) y la SEPI (Sociedad Estatal de Participaciones Industriales) se proyectó el área industrial más grande de España que tendrá una superficie total de aproximadamente 9 millones de metros cuadrados. La I Fase de Parc Sagunt fue inaugurada el 23 de octubre de 2007. La finalidad de este magno proyecto es la de ofrecer suelo a industrias que necesiten parcelas de grandes dimensiones, además de dinamizar el desarrollo industrial en la zona. También existen otros proyectos, de iniciativa privada, como el polígono de «Camí a la Mar» con una superficie de 1.000.000 de metros cuadrados.En la actualidad están ubicadas en Sagunto importantes empresas que son lideres en sus respectivos sectores. Estas empresas poseen una gran producción en los sectores siderúrgicos, en el sector del vidrio y en el de materiales para la construcción.Las empresas principales del sector siderúrgico se dedican, como por ejemplo Arcelor Mittal, a la producción de chapa laminada en frío, cuyos principales clientes son las fábricas nacionales de vehículos Ford y General Motors, aunque también exportan al Reino Unido, Italia, U.S.A. y Bélgica. Otras grandes empresas son Hierros de Levante, Ferrodisa, Thyssen Ros Casares...También importantes a nivel europeo son las fábricas del sector vidrio Pilkington y Glaverbel-Pilkington y las de materiales para la construcción como Lafarge Cementos, Dragados y Construcciones, Tumesa, etc. En la actualidad existen en el municipio ocho polígonos industriales que suman casi 1.500 hectáreas de terreno. Todas estas empresas cuentan con grandes vías de comunicación que se cruzan en el término de Sagunto, así como un importante enlace ferroviario y un puerto marítimo en fase de expansión que está distribuyendo más de 7 millones de toneladas de diversas mercancias. Actualmente está en fase de construcción la segunda dársena y contemplada en su Plan Estratégico la construcción de la tercera, lo que convertirá Sagunto en uno de los principales puertos de España.

ES La transformación de la industria, tanto a nivel de desarrollo de producto como de innovación en los procesos, está vinculada necesariamente a la evolución tecnológica pero también debe contemplar otras variables vinculadas a la sostenibilidad. Cuando ya se comienzan a acuñar términos como cuarta revolución industrial o industria 4.0, es clave que en las estrategias empresariales se tengan en cuenta conceptos como el de la economía circular, que en la fábrica de Lafarge en Sagunto, del Grupo LafargeHolcim, se concibe con una visión integral durante toda la cadena de valor: desde la concepción del producto y su fabricación, hasta su distribución, teniendo en cuenta toda su vida útil. Como parte fundamental de esta visión integral, desde la planta de Sagunto dan especial relevancia a sus grupos de interés, con quienes realizan una colaboración proactiva y los involucran en el cumplimiento de los objetivos de la compañía.
En el último año, la fábrica ha realizado una aportación de más de 32 millones de euros a la economía del Camp de Morvedre, una cifra que representa entre otros, la contribución vía contratación de servicios, convenios, donaciones, impuestos y salarios de sus trabajadores. Con una producción de 15 tipos de cementos diferentes, la planta de Sagunto se encuentra dentro de las 10 fábricas del mundo con mayor variedad de producto, es la segunda fábrica a nivel europeo en producción de cementos destinados a pozos petrolíferos y la primera a nivel mundial en diversidad de tipos de clínker. La fábrica es única en investigación y desarrollo de nuevos tipos de cementos para pozos de petróleo.
Además, como líderes del sector de materiales de construcción, desde el Grupo LafargeHolcim se afrontan los retos del futuro habiendo adquirido el compromiso y la responsabilidad de trabajar y orientar a otras compañías en el proceso de transición hacia una industria más sostenible, eficiente y comprometida con el entorno.
EN The transformation of industry, both in product development as well as in the innovation of processes, is necessarily linked to technological evolution but it must also consider other variables related to sustainability. When terms such as the fourth industrial revolution or industry 4.0 are already being mentioned, it is essential that business strategies take into account concepts such as the circular economy. In the Lafarge factory in Sagunto, of the LafargeHolcim Group, this is understood as a comprehensive vision throughout the value chain: from the conception of the product and its manufacture, to its distribution, taking into account its entire useful life. As a fundamental part of this comprehensive vision, the Sagunto plant gives special relevance to its stakeholders, who are constantly involved in the fulfillment of the company’s objectives through proactive collaboration.
In the last year, the factory made a contribution of more than 32 million euros to the economy of the Camp de Morvedre, a figure that represents among others, the contribution through contracting services, agreements, donations, taxes and salaries of its workers. Estos días se celebran una gran variedad de actos, como La Crida o pre-gón, la Cabalgata de Humor Fallero, La Plantà de las fallas, la Ofrenda de ores a la Virgen de los Desamparados o la Entrega de Premios. La falla es una verdadera obra de arte realizada en madera y cartón, en la
que los distintos “ninots” que la componen, representan con atrevida ironía las escenas más satíricas de los distintos temas de actualidad. En la noche del día de San José, las fallas se convertirán en una gigantesca hoguera, es la Nit de la Crema Las llamas serán las encargadas de reducir los monumen-tos a cenizas, poniendo el punto y final a la fiesta más representativa de los valencianos.

Semana SantaES Fiesta declarada de Interés Turístico Nacional, la Semana Santa de Sagunto está organizada por la Mayoralía de la Cofradía de la Purísima Sangre de Nuestro Señor Jesucristo destaca el Vía Crucis desde la ermita de la Sangre hasta el Calvario, en el que se representa la Pasión de Jesús. Son características las voces “dels plegaors”, cofrades que al grito de “Purís-sima Sang de Jesucrist” recaban un donativo para la Cofradía; las cornetas y tambores, así como las peticiones de los más pequeños solicitando el típico “ca-ramelet” a los cofrades que participan en la procesión. Otros actos destacados son los conciertos de música sacra, la representación viviente de la Pasión de Cristo, la subasta de Pasos y Sayones, la procesión del Silencio, el Sermón del Descendimiento y la Misa de Resurrección.

to is organised by the Brotherhood of the Pure Blood and is distinguished by the Way of the Cross procession from the Sangre chapel to Calvario, where a performance of the Passion of Christ is put on. The voices of the brotherhood are characteristic as members collect donations to the cry of “Pure Blood of Christ”; then there are the sounds of bugles and drums and children asking the participants in the procession for the typical ‘caramelet’ sweet. Other featured events are the holy music concerts, the live performance of the Passion of Christ, the Auction of Tunics and Floats, the Procession of Silence, the Sermon of the Descent and the Mass of the Resurrection.
Moros y CristianosES El primer fin de semana del mes de octubre tiene lugar la fiesta de Moros y Cristianos bajo la advocación de la Virgen del Remedio, en la que se rememoran las luchas habidas entre sí por la conquista y defensa de la Ciudad.El primer domingo de octubre, con la subida al Castillo de todas las Comparsas y ante la Puerta de Almenara se desarrollan las Embajadas Mora y Cristiana con vibrantes discursos, seguidos de batalla con espadas y disparo de arcabuces, que finalizan con la reconquista de la ciudad por las tropas cristianas.
Moors and ChristiansEN The Moors and Christians Festival takes place on the first weekend of October and is dedicated to the virgin Remei. It is a commemoration of the battles fought to conquer and defend the city.On the first Sunday of October, the troupes walk up to the castle and before Almenera Gate the Moor and Christian Embassy recreates the speeches made by the different ambassadors, followed by sword fighting and arquebus shots until the ‘Christians’ get to reconquer the city.

Festival “Sagunt a Escena” - Sagunt a Escena FestivalES Festival de teatro, música y danza que tiene lugar en el Teatro Romano y en la Nau durante los meses de verano. Organizado por el organismo “Teatres de la Generalitat” de la Conselleria de Cultura y el Ayun-tamiento de Sagunto. En su programación combina obras clásicas y modernas, representadas por las más prestigiosas compañías de ámbito nacional e internacional, lo que ha hecho que este festival alcan-ce un elevado renombre a nivel de todo el Estado. También se ponen en escena obras de carácter local representadas por el colectivo saguntino Passió per Sagunt.

ES Todos los años se representa en el teatro romano dentro del festival Sagunt a Escena a cargo de actores amateurs pertenecientes al colectivo local Passió per Sagunt una obra cuya temática tiene carácter local Más de 150 vecinos participan en este proyecto que Passió Per Sagunt llevó a cabo en 2010 por primera vez y que llenó las cáveas del teatro romano y aspira a convertirse en una cita anual con la puesta en escena de su famosa gesta.
EN A work with a local theme is performed in the Roman Theatre every year as part of the Sagunt a Escena festival, performed by amateur actors from the local group Passió per Sagunt. More than 150 local residents take part in this project which Passió per Sagunt first ran in 2010 and which filled the theatre and aims to become an annual event.

Este corto itinerario nos lleva por los alrededores del Castillo declarado Monumento Nacional en 1931, sirviendo el recorrido como visita alternativa y obligada al mismo, ya que transcurre por diver-sos elementos históricos y arquitectónicos. Además ofrece vistas panorámicas tanto del casco urbano como de las cercanias de Sagunto.

ENThe SL-CV 42, known as Lladres Trail, is the ol-dest walking track in Sagunto although it wasn’t gi-ven official authorisation until 2007.
It starts at the car park outside the Roman Thea-tre. This short itinerary takes you around the Castle, declared a National Monument in 1931, and is an alternative and great way to see the local area as it crosses various different historical and architectural sights. It also affords panoramic views of the town centre and the outlying areas of Sagunto.

Ruta de les EscalesES El PR-CV 364 denominado Ruta de les Escales tiene el atractivo de partir del campamento municipal y área recreativa de Les Escales, además de ascender al punto más alto del término de Sagunto, el Alto del Cerverola, desde el que se puede disfrutar de espectaculares vistas panorámicas en todas las direcciones. A pesar del corto recorrido es considerado un PR debido al elevado desnivel y al incómodo descenso, sólo mitigado por unos tramos de peldaños de madera instalados para facilitar la bajada.

EN The PR-CV 364, known as the Escales Route, has the attraction of starting from the Les Escales municipal campground and recreation area and reaches the highest point in the Sagunto municipal district, Alt de Cerverola, from where you get stunning views in every direction. Although short, the trail is classified PR because it has sharp rises and falls, the latter quite uncomfortable and eased only by a few sections of timber steps installed to make it easier.

Dónde comer - Where to eat
ES El plato típico de Sagunto por excelencia es la paella y la distinta y amplia gama de arroces que posee la rica y tradicional cocina valenciana, como el “arròs negre” o el “arròs a banda”, muy populares en toda la comarca.
Además, hay otros platos autóctonos de gran tradición como la olla de “fésols i naps” (judias y nabos) o el potaje de garbanzos. La olla de carne es el gran plato de invierno en el que los cardos y legumbres se completan con las patatas, el tocino y la costilla de cerdo.
Además, Sagunto tiene los pescados y mariscos más frescos procedentes de la Lonja de Pescadores, donde se subastan las capturas de cada día.
En el apartado de postres destacan las frutas del tiempo, especialmente la naranja en sus dife-rentes variedades y cuyo cultivo caracteriza el paisaje de la región. Entre los dulces, hay quey destacar los “pastisets” de boniato, las rosquillas de anís y la torta caldosa.
Y para beber, no podemos olvidarnos de la popular y refrescante bebida natural: la horchata valen-ciana acompañada de los populares “fartons”.
EN The quintessential Sagunto dish is paella and the different and extensive range of rice dishes typical to Valencian cuisine, such as arròs negre and arròs a la banda, very popular throughout the province.
Then there are other local dishes of longstanding tradition, such as fésols i naps (based on peas and turnips) or beans and chickpea stew. Olla de carne stew is the star dish in winter, where thistles and legumes are completed with potato, bacon and pork rib.
Sagunto also boasts fresh fish and seafood straight from the local fish market where the day’s catch is auctioned.
Puddings include seasonal fruit, particularly different varieties of oranges, as orange groves cha-racterise the regional landscape. Sweets include sweet-potato pastisets, aniseed doughnuts and torta caldosa cake.
And to drink, don’t forget the popular and refreshing natural horchata that hails from Valencia, accompanied by the popular fartons.
