Our venue, The Lord Charles Hotel is one of the premier conference venues in Cape Town. Conveniently situated in the Cape Winelands, just half an hour’s drive from Cape Town International Airport and the CBD, it will provide a refined and contemporary style to the 15 th Conference & Exhibition. The theme of “Expanding Frontiers”, broadly aims to facilitate and encourage technical creativity and expansion to more closely collaborate with neighbouring disciplines. Authors are encouraged to showcase new, innovative ideas of addressing modern-day geo-scientific issues and problems. The technical sessions held during the Conference are an ideal platform to engage directly with partners, clients and industry experts to develop thinking and showcase one’s brand. The Conference will attract a range of delegates, which will include: Mining juniors & majors Petroleum companies Geophysicists, geologists, hydrologists Geoscience consultants and service providers Geophysical contractors Geoscience researchers Mathematicians Software developers University and industry academics and students Associated professional societies

The purpose of this letter is to formally invite

you, on behalf of the Organising Committee of

the South African Geophysical Association’s

15th Biennial Conference & Exhibition, to submit

abstracts for either oral or poster presentation.

Our venue, The Lord Charles Hotel is one of the

From 1 November 2016, authors will be able to

submit their abstracts. All abstracts must be submitted

directly to the Conference Secretariat – further details

are available on the Conference website,

www.sagaconference.co.za.

Abstracts are to be submitted as Microsoft Word

documents using the specified format only – the

abstract template is available for download to assist

you in this task. We ask that all authors use this

template and adhere to the guidelines for its use.

Abstracts must be a minimum of two pages

and a maximum of six pages, including figures

Abstracts must be text with legible graphics

embedded

Abstracts must be submitted as a .doc or .docx

file only. Documents will be converted to pdf

once submitted

Abstracts may be submitted for the following

presentation media:

Oral presentation

Poster presentation (maximum A0)

Each presenting author must register and pay to

attend the Conference. On submission, the author(s)

must indicate whether or not they agree to publish the

abstract in all Conference publications/proceedings

including the website. Successful abstracts must be

presented by the author(s) or a nominated party.

Acceptance or otherwise is at the discretion of the

Organising Committee whose decision is final. Authors

must pay their own accommodation, travel, incidentals

etc. The Conference Secretariat can assist with

bookings.

Topics which may be addressed include:

Borehole geophysics

Potential field geophysics

Electrical and electromagnetic geophysics

Seismology

Minerals exploration

Oil and gas exploration

Geophysical data processing and modelling

Integrated geoscience

Near surface geophysics

Geophysics in near mine environments

Archaeological, agricultural and bio-geophysics

Environmental and engineering geophysics

Groundwater and contaminant mapping

UAVs in geoscience

Structure and evolution of the African

continent

The Organising Committee also welcomes abstracts

that may not fall within the suggested sub-themes

above. Additionally, more than one sub theme can be

addressed.

All abstracts must be submitted by 31 March 2017.

Authors will be advised of the status of their abstracts

by 31 May 2017.
