Safety switches for safety gateand position monitoring
In compliance with the standards, machinery must be fitted withguards that can neither bedefeated nor manipulated.
If the guards are opened, thePSEN safety switches aretriggered and the dangerousmachine movement is stopped. They are suitable for monitoringgates in safety fences for safetyzones, for example.
Safety switch PSENmagwith built-in protectionagainst defeat
Magnetic safety switches areused wherever the risk analysisspecifies a high category, wherethere is heavy soiling and wherestrict hygiene regulations need tobe met.
They can be used to monitor theposition of movable guards andcan also be used in applicationsin which it is difficult to guide thegates accurately, where machinegates are subject to a high levelof vibration and where largetolerances are required on startup.

The safe, complete solution
With safety switches PSENcode, manipulation protection exceedsthe standards
In EN 1088 legislators requirethat manipulation protection onsafety devices be guaranteed. Ifnon-coded sensors are used, designers are required toguarantee this through concealedinstallation.
With PSENcode, protectionagainst manipulation is built intothe switch:The safety switch and actuatorwork together in such a way thatthe enable from the safety deviceis only triggered if the actuatingelement is within the switch’sresponse range and the codenumber on the actuator matchesthat of the switch. Two versionsof this key lock principle areavailable: for use with anyactuator or with an actuator thatis uniquely assigned to thePSENcode.
Optoelectronic protectiondevices for safeguardinginteraction between manand machine
If the production processrequires active intervention, thereis a high potential risk.Mechanical protection devicescan seriously disrupt the workcycle. The solution is to designworkstations ergonomicallyusing active optoelectronicprotection devices such as lightcurtains and light barriersPSENopt.
An invisible protected field ofinfrared beams protects thedanger zones. If a light beam isbroken it will immediately triggera safe shutdown command. WithPSENopt you can protect yourstaff and capital goods – safely, efficiently and economically.
Non-contact safety switches PSENmag and PSE Economical safetyis our strength
As a solution supplier Pilz offersthe optimum concept for safe, economical safety gate andposition monitoring: non-contactsafety switches on the input sidein conjunction with provenevaluation devices, includingrelay, semiconductor and poweroutputs, on the output side.
The result is reliable, high-qualitycomponents and maximumcompatibility! The sensors havea compact design and ruggedhousing, ensuring a simple,space-saving installation and along product service life. Justone single PSEN safety switch issufficient for applications up toCategory 4.

The safety interfaces PSEN ix1and PSEN i1 enable you tocascade up to 48 PSENmag, depending on the evaluationdevice. This is particularlysimple, fast and safe to performusing cage clamp terminals.
No additional wiring is requiredfor the diagnostic and signaloutput, as the safety interfacecan be connected directly to thePLC, which signals the status ofthe safety gate via a statusindicator.
Safely into the future with PSENmag and PSEN Highest level of safetyfor your plant
With PSENmag safety switchesyou can easily protect againstdefeat in accordance withVDE 0660. The possibility ofoperating the switch uninten-tionally is also excluded.
Thanks to the coding of theswitch and its counterpart,PSENcode offers manipulationprotection that far exceeds thestandard. A unique, fully codedversion of the switch is availablefor particularly high safetyrequirements.
Flexible, economicalinstallation and operation
Simple assembly andcommissioning means your plantis quickly available. With just a single switch you canachieve safety up to Category 4of EN 954-1. This saves onwiring, while providing maximumsafety and the highest level ofintegral protection frommanipulation.
The five directions of actuationand long switching distance onthe PSENcode ensure maximumfreedom for installation. PSENsafety switches are thereforeinsensitive to spring-back orswinging from safety gates. Thehigh lateral offset is a benefithere, enabling greater toleranceson the installation dimensions.
Plug-in cables ensure simple, quick wiring. Unlike mechanicalswitches, connection is quick anderror-free using ready-madestandard cables from Pilz. Aprotection type of up to IP67 canbe achieved thanks to the use ofM12/8 connectors with screwconnection. Maintenance istherefore easier, as too isexchanging the safety switch.
Thanks to their small, compactstructure, PSEN safetyswitches can be integratedperfectly into the existing workingenvironment. As the PSENmag is available in asquare or round design, Pilz cansupply the right safety switch tosuit every installationrequirement.

All electrosensitive protectiveequipment (ESPE) in anindustrial environment must beinstalled in such a way that theprotection device will reliablydetect anyone penetrating thedanger zone. The followingstandards must be observed forthe installation:
EN 999: Approach speed ofparts of the body for thepositioning of safety devicesEN 294: Safety distances toprevent danger zones beingreached by the upper limbs
Pilz is there as your competentpartner for safety advice andengineering.
Minimum safety distancein accordance with EN 999
The minimum distance to thedanger zone must be calculatedin order to guarantee sufficientdistance between the ESPE andthe dangerous machine parts. The following formula should beused:
S = (K x T) + CS = Minimum distance in mmfrom the danger zone to theprotected fieldK = Approach speed of a bodyor parts of the body, such as afinger or hand, in mm/sT = The overall systemstopping performance, in sC = An additional distance inmmd = Detection capability(resolution) of the light curtainin mm
Different approach speeds K andadditional distance C should beused, depending on theapplication, i.e. finger, hand orbody protection.

Safety distancefrom 100 to 500 mm:S = (2 000 x T) + (8 x (d – 14))K = 2 000 mm / sC = 8 x (d-14 mm), > 0d < 40 mm
Safety distance> 500 mm:S = (1 600 x T) + (8 x (d – 14))K = 1 600 mm / sC = 8 x (d-14 mm), > 0d < 40 mm
For bodyor accessprotection
S = (1 600 x T) + 850
Please also note the followinginstallation heights above thereference plane (e.g. floor):

Where the danger zone isprotected horizontally, the heightof the protected field above thereference plane (H) must notexceed 1 000 mm or be less than300 mm. If H > 300 mm, there isthe risk that access beneath theprotected field would goundetected. This must be takeninto account in the riskassessment.
The following also applies:
S = (1 600 x T) + (1 200 – 0.4H)K = 1 600 mm / sC = 1 200 mm – 0,4HCmin = 850 mmHmax = 1 000 mmHmin = 15 (d – 50 mm)
If the height of the protectedfield is specified, the detectioncapability d must be calculatedaccordingly:(d) = H / 15 + 50 mm.
