The alluring curves of the streamlined body, the brutal power of the throbbing engine, the sheer thrill of blistering speeds, Automobile seem
to captivate everyone’s imagination. And that is just not it opens the chest and what awaits is the surreal world of real time engineering. As we
move through wonders of Automotive Engineering, V engines, overhead Cam-shafts, Variable Valve timing, Alternate fuels and there seems no
end.
Society of Automotive Engineers, Zakir Hussain College of Engineering and Technology, AMU collegiate chapter was established in 2012 with
the collective effort of a group of students who had a strong urge to complement the theoretical knowledge imparted in the classroom, with
emphasis on the practical aspects of engineering. With the support from the department of Mechanical Engineering, ZHCET and under the guid-
ance of our Faculty advisors Dr. Syed Fahad Anwar and Mr. Nafees Ahmed II the idea transcended to reality
SAE-ZHCET is an affiliate body of SAE International and SAE-INDIA, which provides a renowned platform to ignite your mettle in engineering.
With a humble beginning in 2012, SAE ZHCET has grown steadily to its present platform and is one of the most active and popular technical
societies in the campus. The chapter can proudly boast of having committed members from the entire gamut of engineering streams offered at
ZHCET. Over the past years, it has striven to quench the desire of its members to learn more about the ever-fascinating world of mobility engi-
neering. It provides a platform to the students to share and increase their 'engineering' know-how through increased interaction between stu-
dents at all levels, participation in various National forums, group activity, brainstorming and hands-on-engineering sessions, projects, industrial
inputs and a whole bunch of other activities. Our dedicated members, emphasis on the foundations of a strong technical base and demonstrat-
ed commitment have combined to serve the needs of the upcoming next generation engineers The very idea of such a platform opens up vari-
ous avenues for students and educates them about the about the machine which is far more than metal and fiber.
From the Dean’s Desk
“I would like to congratulate Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE-ZHCET)
Student Chapter for bringing out the 2nd edition of their Annual Newsletter.
SAE-ZHCET has been involved in various student activities like conducting
workshops & industrial visits and benefiting the masses. They also have been
fabricating different vehicles like a Formula One car, All-terrain vehicle, an
electric Hybrid vehicle for National events like SUPRA, BAJA & EFFICYCLE
and bringing laurels to the college and University. I would like to extend my
support that is possible from the college for such student activities. I wish
them all the very best for their upcoming projects and I also wish to bring the
matter for some more grants to help out our college.”

“In the previous year, lots of students got closer with
SAE Club and joined the SAE family. The successful
activities and competitions held by the Club have
also enriched our campus life and helped in devel-
oping students’ interest towards automotive sector. For this ses-
sion, we assure to bring workshops, industrial visits, and varied
competitions for the benefit of the students and provide them real
time engineering. I extend my warm welcome to our new mem-
bers. Formula Hybrid is also an ambitious project surfacing with
the help of our Alumni Network based in North-America.” ”
“This year we are competing at Efficycle-2014 and Formula Student India-2015 to
be held in month of October and January respectively. Both the teams are in the
middle of fabrication stage. We are also in process of designing a Hybrid Formu-
la Car for participating in Formula Hybrid-2016 to be held in New Hampshire,
USA. Students from branches other than Mechanical like Electronics, Electrical
and Computers are also involved for the designing of electrical systems and hybrid powertrain.
In the coming season of Formula Student, we are more concerned about the driver safety and ac-
celeration of the vehicle. Aerodynamics and chassis simulations are done accordingly, making
the car lighter, safer and faster.”
“From its inception till today, in a very short
span of time SAE ZHCET has come a long way
owing to the hard work and dedication of its
students. It is surely a club which stands out and
has pronounced the name of the Mechanical
Department of ZHCET, AMU out loud.”
“Members of our SAE team have demonstrated
that they can do wonders if supported properly.
Their journey from BAJA-13, Efficycle-13, BAJA-14
to SUPRA-14 is a proof of their dedication and zeal.
University administration and Alumni have come
up in a big way to help realize these dream pro-
jects. The journey goes on.”

“It is a pleasure to see young students of the department actually fabricating
something under SAE. This was unthinkable until a few years ago. Students
used to make only models of simple mechanisms. But, fabricating some real
product that actually works was always thought to be beyond us. I am therefore
very happy for all the efforts put in by our students. I also realise that, due to
various reasons, we are unable to provide the support that we should have. In
spite of that they can build the required thing. That speaks a lot about their abil-
ity to be resourceful. I wish the club every success.”

TEAM DOERS V1.0
What started as an effort by 10 Freshman turned out to be a milestone in the success story of SAE ZHCET. EFFICYCLE is an annual competition held by SAE INDIA on a national level where teams from premiere engineering colleges participate and showcase their talent. In this competition students are required to build an Energy efficient Human powered three wheeled Electric Vehicle. It can operate on human and electrical power simultaneously and alternatively. The perception is to succumb to the alarming global warming and changing environmental patterns. It was starting from scratch, with no prior knowledge of car technology these enthusiastic students put in their knack for technology and sheer hard work to build it part by part. From learning the nuances of automobile design to making one the team cleared the virtual round with flying colours. Then came the final round, after the fabrication for few months. The vehicle was ready to compete and there they performed beyond expectations as first timers. He vehicle’s DNA was highly praised and attracted attention from judges hailing from the giants of the automotive industry. The vehicle is Aerodynamic, Highly Engineered, Safe and Ergonomically designed. Pulse With Modulus: Speed controlling, battery charging, brake cutting off and reverse gearing. The team Consisted of Mohd. Afzal Shahdab (captain), Mehul Varshney, Arpit Upadhyay, Ayush Mit-tal, Tarang Jindal, Tushar Singhal, Ravi Baghel, Shivam Sundram, Himanshu Sharma, Nikhil Bansal.
SAE holds an annual design competition at national level. The aim of the teams is to de-
sign, fabricate, test, market and race a single seat off road car prototype that can with-
stand stringent test conditions laid down by the SAE. For 2013,the event was once again
breaking its participation records with 260 colleges submitting their virtual . After the
virtual BAJA event held in Bangalore,120 teams were selected to do battle in the main
event ,held at Pithampur, Indore from 14-19 February, 2013.
In the year 2012, some of the technically inspired students of ZHCET dared to dream of
, thus bringing into existence TEAM DOERS. Their dream carries forward to this day,
with the baton in our hand, with inflated zeal to run the next leg of race.
It is the story of 23 passionate undergraduate engg. students from Z.HC.E.T, A.M.U who
represented their college for the first time in an extremely demanding and challenging
student project– BAJA 2013.
They started from scratch by researching on everyb aspect of All errain Vehicle tech-
nology, reports of various colleges. Based on their idea and research they designed the
ATV and came with flying colors at virtual design presentation round held at Bangalore
judged by eminent juries from leading automotive companies. Then came the fabrica-
tion which was a grueling task in itself
The team was among 120 selected teams out of 262 participating teams from reputed
engg. colleges across the nation in virtual design presentation round. This is the first
time participation of ZHCET, AMU in its history. Also it cleared most of the tests and was
highly appreciated.

CAD model achieved after numerous redesigning and simulations under various harsh
conditions.
O ften misunderstood just as geeks or nerds, with little possibility
of being creative, the team of 22 mechanical engineering students have continued bringing laurels to our college second time in a row by fabricating a faster, stur-dier and ever more power packed all terrain vehicle (ATV). Two years back, what started from scratch, the legacy was kept on the previous year as well. Here is what the team captain, Ayush Gupta has to say about this fantastic achievement of “TEAM DOERS”.
“I would like to start with thanking our club’s founders who gave us this great oppor-tunity as we know the distance is nothing; it is only the first step that is difficult. Our en-tire team worked endlessly in creating this rugged vehicle which is able to hit the speed in exclusive harsh conditions, like deserts and steep hills. We cleared one round after anoth-er overcoming all the hurdles. My team always did what I said and I will always be thank-ful to all of them, forever.”

Abhishek Pathak Captain & Founder Chairperson
“As a founding chairperson and the first team lead, I have 2 things to say to budding engineers. First, sort it out in your head, get to know what you want and what you aspire to become. Because once you do that, the second part be-comes much easy, which is working towards your goal. In the past 2 years, I have realised that for mechanical engi-neers making a formula one car is the culmination of self realisation. I got to live through that dream and if in case you decided to be an automotive engineer too, then SAE-ZHCET is the right place for you. So study hard, make
marvellous cars and get what you want. ”
ZHCET FORMULA RACING
ABOUT THE EVENT The purpose of the STUDENT FORMULA competition is that teams are to assume that they work for a design firm that is designing, fab-ricating, testing and demonstrating a prototype vehicle for the non-professional, weekend, competition market. The vehicle should have very high performance in terms of acceleration, braking and handling and be sufficiently durable to successfully com-plete all the events described in the STUDENT FOR-MULA Rules and held at the STUDENT FORMULA competitions The vehicle must accommodate drivers whose stat-ure ranges from 5th percentile female to 95th per-centile male and must satisfy the requirements of the STUDENT FORMULA Rules.
Additional design factors to be consid-ered include: aesthetics, cost, ergonomics, maintainability, manufacturability, and reliability Once the vehicle has been completed and tested, your de-sign firm will attempt to "sell" the design to a "corporation" that is considering the production of a competition vehicle. The challenge to the design team is to develop a prototype car that best meets the STUDENT FORMULA vehicle design goals and which can be profitably marketed. Each design will be judged and evaluated against other com-peting designs to determine the best overall car
SUPRA SAEINDIA: AN OVERVIEW It is a student design competition organized by SAE-INDIA. In 2008, Formula SAEINDIA was launched with the name of SUPRA SAEINDIA. This event provides a real world engineering challenge for the SAEINDIA stu-dent members that reflects the steps involved in the entire process from de-sign and engineering to production to marketing and endurance. The con-cept behind Formula SAE is that a fictional manufacturing company has con-
tracted a design team to develop a small Formula-style race car. The prototype race car is to be evaluated for its potential as a production item. The target marketing group for the race car is the non-professional weekend autocross racer. Each student team designs, builds and tests a proto-type based on a series of rules whose purpose is both to ensure onsite event operations and promote clever prob-lem solving.
The project fuels the exuberance of the youth by providing teams a platform to test their mettle, giving them a pragmatic exposure to real world challeng-es as faced in the industry. Students realize their talent through such an ex-perience, making them proven candidates for the future as technocrats, en-trepreneurs, designers, innovators and leaders. This helps the objective of bringing out student talent to serve the nation for the years to come, in fulfilment of the Automotive Mission Plan (AMP2016) a dream to make India an International Automotive Hub. It was desired that this new competition would take the cars to the next level of engineering.

HOW WE GET IT DONE From the scratch to the Formula Car, it took about one complete year. Whole process started with research work and rough sketches of designs. The designing of the car was done on NX8.5 and then simulated on Ansys. Then the design presentation round took place in KIIT, Bhubaneswar. In which our team ranked 19th from com-peting 178 national teams, leaving behind IITs and NITs. Then came the fabrication stage, materials were pro-cured, engine and other spare parts were collected. Man-ufacturing of Wheel assembly started by CNC machining resulting into the finest product. Fabrication of chassis was started and after collecting different spare parts, as-sembling was started. Then started the most complex procedure, the surfacing. A wooden pattern was made and then fibre was moulded on it resulting into the awesome body fibre. Now came the time of testing, the car was tested on the campus roads and finally the car was departed to Chen-nai, by the Chairman of Mechanical Engg Dept.
TWO DAY AUTOMOBILE MANUFACTURING WORKSHOP Radiance (under IIT Bombay) conducted workshop dealing with the manufacturing of a car, the production line and the field work on the 8th and 9th of February,2014. FORMULA-HYBRID 2016 Formula hybrid is an international design challenge for the students pursu-
ing engineering from universities all over the world, held each year at New
Hampshire Motor Speedway. They must design, simulate and fabricate an
open wheel, single seat formula-one type race car. The main difference b/w
“Formula Hybrid” and other FSAE events is that the main focus in this com-
petition is on drive-train innovation and fuel efficiency. This competition en-
courages the development of hybrid vehicles as in the present scenario nat-
ural resources are exhausting and global environment is at stake.
FORMULA STUDENT INDIA FSI is the inaugural edition of formula student series to be
held in India in January,2015. For the first time ever this com-
petition is going to be organized in India (and on this subcon-
tinent as well).
ZHCET Formula Racing is all set to fabricate ZFR02, the all
