Summer Term 2017
On the
15th May
2017 Year 3 went to
Colchester
Castle. It
took one
and half
hours on
the coach.
When Year
3 got there
they
played on the ruins and took a class photo. When
they first got in they had a look at the History of
the Castle on the ground floor. They learnt all
about Mosaics and who lived in the Castle. After that, the Year 3s went upstairs and looked at the
Roman artefacts. There were Roman coins and
interesting facts about Boudicca. Next they had
lunch and had a play outside. After everyone had
finished they went back inside the Castle. Next
they went down under the Castle into the Ruins of
the Temple of Claudius. They had to go through
archways and learn about battling in the Roman times. It was so much
fun for them! When the
Year 3s had come back
up they went to a les-
son room. They
watched a video then
had to tackle building
a Roman house and an
Iron Age Roundhouse.
It was very hard! It
took the Year 3s a very
long time to build but it was all worth it in the end.
After they had built it everyone took a photo in the
one that they constructed. Sadly Year 3 then had to leave. They all had fun and were happy to be back at
school.

On the 14th of June Year 4
and their families met togeth-
er for Year 4 Class Mass. The
Mass was held in the Year 4
Classroom. Father John was
there to do the Mass. It took place at 2:00 pm. The Mass
was about the Nine Beati-
tudes that Jesus told stand-
ing on a hill in front of a
huge crowd. To start the
Mass Rory said the opening
reading. Then some more of
Year Four said some things
to do with the Beatitudes.
The first song they sung was
‘A new commandment’. It
was a very successful mass
and at least 1 person came
for each child. There was tea and coffee for the parents
after it. There was also juice
for the children or adults.
Lara said, “I think it was a
very successful and quiet.”
Joseph said, “I think it was
good and it went well.” I think
everyone listened very well to Father John we all sat there
quietly and soon the mass
had ended.

One of their biggest at-tacks was when they
killed the monks and
burnt the monastery after
a GIANT ATTACK. Now it
is known as the holy is-
land and Sweden and
Norway and Denmark is
now called Scandinavia.

Year Four learn about the Vicious Vikings! Last half term the Year 4s
topic was on the Vicious Vi-
kings.
We learned a lot about the
Vikings this term so we’re
going to tell you about it.
Did you know that the Vi-
kings were famous for their
sailing and their vicious Vi-
king long ships? Some of
them went to France and Ita-
ly, and one group of Vikings
went to Canada but didn’t
stay that long and that’s as

On the 28th of June 2017 I inter-
viewed Miss Manning.
Miss Manning went to Sacred
Heart for her primary school and
grew up in Ware as well.
She went to St Marys for her sec-
ondary school. And went to the
University of Hertfordshire for
learning how to teach.
But before teaching, Miss Manning
worked in M&S at the cafe depart-
ment.
Her favourite hobby is reading, her
favourite book is Gone Girl by
Gillian Flynn. Her favourite sport is swimming. She likes all kinds of
foods but especially chorizo. Miss
Manning’s favourite music is either
Indie or Pop.
When she was little Miss Manning
wanted to become a policewoman.
But when she grew older she want-
ed to become a teacher.
Miss Manning doesn’t speak any
languages but would like to learn.
She has one brother who is two
years
older
than her.

A Note from Miss Smith
I am really impressed by the children who have worked hard in
Newspaper Club this term. The children have written some interesting
articles and tried hard to bring you the best news from our term at
Sacred Heart.
All of the articles have been edited by the children who wrote them.
If you are in KS2 and you would like to join Newspaper Club, please
come along to a meeting on Wednesdays at 12:15pm.
If you are a parent and you have any expertise you would like to give
us, please email and let me know.
Congratulations Newspaper Club!

the apostles
had courage
and the apos-tles spread the
good news.
The Holy Spirit
had come
down and gave them the
fruits of the Holy Spirit and
made it so they could talk to
anyone in their own lan-
guage. This was so they could
tell everyone about Jesus.
At our school we had Mass
and then every class did a
performance. Year 3 did a song that we learnt in class
and made up actions for. Re-
ception did a great dance and
Year 2 did a dance as well.
The other classes also did
songs which everyone en-
joyed. Then we had an ice
lolly to celebrate!
This term our school had a Pen-
tecost birthday because we were
celebrating the birthday of
church.
The story of Pentecost
The apostles [disciples] locked
them self in a dark room praying
to Jesus. Before Jesus died he
said “Don’t worry the Holy Spirit
will come.”
Suddenly, a winding tongue of
fire rested on the apostles’ heads.
They were amazed by this! Then
We can’t wait to celebrate Pente-
cost again next year!
