Clergy Health and Retirement Collection On September 21, there will be a diocesan-wide collection for the Clergy Health and Retirement Trust will support the health and well -being of our 628 Boston priests. Our priests have been there when we needed them. Now, it is our turn to help fulfill the promises made to ensure the highest quality of care and quality of life for them when they need us. All are welcome to make a gift online at: www.clergyfunds.org or use the in pew envelopes provided. Be sure to watch the short video at clergyfunds.org to see how your contributions help to support Regina Cleri, the residence for Senior Priests in Boston which is currently celebrating its 50th Anniversary. Thank you in advance for your generous support of our priests.

Dear Friends in Christ: Thank you to all who earlier this summer expressed a willingness to serve our parishes on the respective Parish

Pastoral Councils (PPC). The PPC serves as a consultative body to the pastor, particularly in the areas of the liturgical, pastoral, service, and evangelization efforts of parish life.

Each parish has its own council, made up of members from the parish. The members for the councils are as follows:

Sacred Heart Parish: Anthony Bullock, Jr., Tom Conlon, Jim Cunningham, Tracy Curly, Paige Donahoe, Linda Feuerbach, Joey Gustafson, Dominic Moruzzi, and Veronica Matthews. St. John the Baptist Parish: Mike Antell, Audrey Brancaleone, Joe Brancaleone, Mary Brown,Dawn Burnham, Patti Byrne, Karen Greene, Sally O’Maley, Jane Shaw, and Ray Shaw . The Finance Councils members are appointed by the pastor. The Sacred Heart Parish Finance consists of Theresa Conway, Brian Davis, Lou Geoffrion, Michael Matthews and Scott McIntire. The St. John Parish Finance Council is: Virginia Antell, Tim Colploys. Al Dente, and Jon Schimoler.

Darice McIntire serves as a liaison between the two councils. Michael Flynn will serve as an ex officio member due to his work with the Religious Education Program in Essex. In addition to the members, Fr. Jack, Jay Caress and Chris Moore, by virtue of their jobs, are ex officio members of each PPC.

Thank you to those who have served on the Parish Pastoral Councils and Parish Finance Councils whose terms have been completed. Your advise, council, and insights have been very helpful in setting the direction and vision of the parishes. Those who have completed their terms on the parishes' pastoral councils were: Lisa Alfano, Sue Henderson, and Dorothy Jodice. Those who are leaving the Sacred Heart Parish Finance Council are: David Przesiek and Elaine Quinn. Thank you to all for you dedication and assistance to the parishes.

Meetings will begin in September. If there is a particular issue or question you have regarding parish life, always feel free to inquire about it with a PPC member and we can discuss it at our meeting. Please pray for your parish council and for those who serve in this important advisory capacity. Together may we work to build up our communities and grow in the love of Christ.

Our choir will be returning soon to share with us the gifts of their voices being raised to God in praise and thanksgiving. We are also need to recruit cantors and leaders of song to assist Joe in the leading the congregation in song. This is particularly helpful when we welcome guest musicians and others during the course of the year.

In a few weeks, our Rite of Christian Initiation process will being to help people explore the Catholic faith and to be welcomed into the full life of the Church. Have you or a loved one ever felt called to be become part of the Peace, Fr. Jack

Faith Book Reflection on Today’s Readings Twenty-Third Sunday in Ordinary Time

Ezekiel 33: 7-9 Psalm 95 Romans 13: 8-10 Matthew 18: 15-20 From today's Ezekiel reading: Thus says the Lord: You, son of man, I have appointed watchman for the house of Israel; when You hear me say anything, you shall warn them for me. Reflection: Ezekiel, the warning sentinel, had to speak an uncomfortable word to his people. Most of us would rather not do that to those we know. But sometimes that’s the way God works in people’s lives -- through us, called to be prophets by our baptism. So, like Ezekiel, we may have to be a warning sentinel to those not facing their responsibilities or hurting others. So we ask ourselves: Do I shirk my responsibility to speak up when I know something is not right? When I confront a wrong or injustice do I approach the other in anger or charity?

The goal of the class is to help parents become aware of the theological and historical reasons for baptizing your child and the significance of Baptism as a beginning, not an end, to a lifelong commitment. The one hour class explores the purpose of Baptism from both a spiritual and practical standpoint. Parishioners are asked to sign up for the class prior to having their infants baptized.
