Thank you to the many families who have already supported the “Vinnies Winter Appeal.”

Vinnies Winter Appeal Wish List

This year St Vincent De Paul in their Winter Appeal through Youth Vinnies, need help gathering donated items for their clients who are Homeless or have No Fixed Address. These are the items that are desperately needed to be able assist these people. Imagine you have no access to a kitchen, fridge, microwave, stove, plates, or cutlery, and need to try to stay nourished and healthy. This is what these clients go through daily. Some have access occasionally to hot or boiling water, or a microwave, but sadly many of our clients do not have access to any of these for prolonged periods of time.

Sacred Heart is asking families to support the Vinnies Winter Appeal by donating the items listed below. We will be collecting items from Monday 18 May- Monday 1 June. Year 6 will create “snack packs” from the items donated that will be distributed to the homeless through St Vincent De Paul. Students are asked to give the items to their class teacher.

Charitable Works Fund The Charitable Works Fund (CWF) of the Diocese of Broken Bay provides funds to five charities that help the people in our local communities. One of the charities is the CatholicCare Hospital Chaplaincy and Pastoral Care Practitioner Program that provides pastoral assistance to patients and their families in hospitals on the Central Coast, North Shore and Northern Beaches. Reflecting on their work, Bishop Anthony recently wrote: “For many in our hospitals, particularly with the restriction on hospital visitors, this can be a time of anxiety and loneliness. While our CatholicCare Pastoral Care Practitioners are not able to sit at the bedsides as they would normally do, they are on the phone to patients, praying with them and providing the support of our faith.” (27 April)

Please find a link to video stories of people who have benefited from this work. More information and donations can be made online via www.givenow.com.au/cwf.

Dear parents, guardians and carers

Re: Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD)

Every year, all schools in Australia participate in the

Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD). The NCCD process

requires schools to identify information already available in the school about supports provided to

students with disability. These relate to legislative requirements under the Disability Discrimination Act

1992 and the Disability Standards for Education 2005, in line with the NCCD guidelines (2019).

Information provided about students to the Australian Government for the NCCD includes:

• year of schooling

• category of disability: physical, cognitive, sensory or social/emotional

• level of adjustment provided: support provided within quality differentiated teaching practice, supplementary, substantial or extensive.

This information assists schools to:

• formally recognise the supports and adjustments provided to students with disability in schools

• consider how they can strengthen the support of students with disability in schools

From the Assistant Principal

Charitable Works Fund

• develop shared practices so that they can review their learning programs in order to improve educational outcomes for students with disability.

• The NCCD provides state and federal governments with the information they need to plan more broadly for the support of students with disability.

The NCCD will have no direct impact on your child and your child will not be involved in any testing process. The school will provide data to the Australian Government in such a way that no individual student will be able to be identified – the privacy and confidentiality of all students is ensured. All information is protected by privacy laws that regulate the collection, storage and disclosure of personal information. To find out more about these matters, please refer to the Australian Government’s Privacy Policy (https://www.education.gov.au/privacy-policy).

Further information about the NCCD can be found on the NCCD Portal (https://www.nccd.edu.au).

If you have any questions about the NCCD, please contact the school.

Wellbeing and caring for your family’s health has never been more important during the COVID-19 pandemic. As school’s return to face to face teaching some children and families may feel anxious or worried about returning.

This is a time that Sacred Heart is preparing for your child’s return so that they can reconnect and feel safe and secure at school. Every child has been impacted by this challenging experience in their own way and by understanding this we can best support them to transition back.

The return for children will see the staff working on developing the student’s relationships by rebuilding and recreating time to work with their peers, providing opportunities to discuss how they are feeling and how they liked working at home and then at school. The school will provide opportunities for the children to reflect on: What worked well for them at home? How did they manage their learning? What helped them to be successful? What was difficult and how did you overcome that difficulty? What did you learn about yourself as a learner?

Teachers will also be working at re-establishing routines in their classroom and talking about classroom expectations and behaviours for learning in the classroom environment. The students and teachers will create a predictable environment which allows for students to know and feel in control of their learning through student voice and

engagement. There will be a focus on teaching and modelling social and emotional skills which will come through with Wellbeing Week and the PDH units of work across K-6.

The whole school will focus on our Sacred Heart Core Values and Positive Behaviours for Learning. We will discuss the core value of Compassion. One initiative the school is undertaking is the collection of non-perishable food for St Vinnies which demonstrates compassion for the less fortunate in the community.

Wellbeing

There will be opportunities to discuss how the children have demonstrated optimism, growth mindset and resilience. Students will be encouraged to see their strengths and coping skills that they have used during their Home Based Learning experience and what they can take away from that experience.

Children will be encouraged and guided to feel positive about themselves and the future. We will be teaching and demonstrating that we as Catholics are hope-filled people who can move forward in new and different ways. However, if your child is struggling with returning and the thought of attending school every day, you could start using the Smiling Mind App teaching your child breathing and other relaxation techniques. Forward planning the return to school by creating a plan of how to manage this transition and making the time at home far less appealing and interesting by reducing screen time and enjoyable activities. Also rewarding school return by ‘When you come back from school next week we will…..’.

The most important part of the return to face to face teaching for you and your child/ren is to:

‘Celebrate- that you did it!!!’

‘You worked at home and supported your child’s education to the best of

your ability.’

A message from Forest Coach Lines To Whom it may concern,

With all schools returning to face to face learning, Forest Coach Lines is taking a proactive preventative approach to ensure we minimise any risk to our customers.

To ensure that our fleet is contagion safe, buses are disinfected twice daily with a hospital grade disinfectant, with extra emphasis placed on all physical touch-points in the vehicles.

In our depots, we are monitoring our driver health including daily temperature checks to ensure that no potential cases go unnoticed. We have engaged an independent health care provider to advise and assess any drivers for potential symptoms as they arise and provide consultation where any suspicion or concerns are present. We will ensure that any self-isolation required is carried out.

We have increased hygiene awareness with educational posters in best-practice hygiene and protection against the spread of viral infections including COVID-19 and are providing appropriate means for hand-washing and sanitising. Drivers have been provided with personal hand-sanitising bottles.

We are encouraging all passengers to continue practising social distancing on our buses as per Transport for NSW and NSW Health guidelines provided to the transport industry. However, distancing between students on our buses is not required. On regular route services school students will be given priority over adult commuters and there is no limit provided to how many students can travel to ensure that no student will be left behind on their way to and from school

Forest Coach Lines will continue to work closely with Transport for NSW and yourselves to ensure the safety of all of our passengers to the best of our abilities.

Canteen is closed until further notice. However, we are hopeful the canteen will reopen soon for on-line lunch orders only, so watch this space. Kay Neale – Canteen Co-ordinator Please feel free to contact me via email at: [email protected]

The morning Kiss and Drop is not being attended by parent volunteers. Parents are still able to drop off their children at the Kiss and Drop area for them to safely walk into school. Kiss and Ride of an afternoon remains the school’s preferred method for collecting your children or, alternatively, will be escorted to a waiting parent or bus by a teacher, or attend after school care.
