Kinder interviews for 2020 commenced on Monday. It is wonderful to have the chance to talk with parents, current and new about their hopes and dreams for their children. Our Year Three and Four students are preparing for the Sacrament of ReconciliaƟon early next term. There is a parent informaƟon evening on tonight Wednesday, 19th June at 6pm and it is expected that a repre- sentaƟve from each family making the sacrament be present. Our Kinder teachers aƩended some valuable professional learning in Maths last week. Mrs Haggar spoke to our assembly on Friday about her learnings from her educaƟonal trip to Finland. It was interesƟng for students and staff alike. The new building is progressing slowly at present with liƩle work being done since the slab was poured. Hopefully we will see a frame going up soon. As was advised last year our new building is being funded from a Commonwealth Government Capital Grant (allocaƟon of which is based on need) and a grant form Catholic EducaƟon Diocese Wagga Wagga (allocaƟon of which is based on need). We are grateful for the support of these two bodies to ensure that Sacred Heart has the faciliƟes to support the needs of students and staff. Work on the new playground area is well underway with the focus at present on developing the new sandpit and surrounding spaces. The playground will provide many opƟons for children to develop their physical strength, saƟsfy sensory needs and allow for creaƟvity and imaginaƟon. The upgrade of the playground was idenƟfied as a priority three years ago as exisƟng equipment needed to be replaced and research challenged us to think differently about play spaces for students. The playground is being funded from Parents and Friends funds and from a grant from Catholic EducaƟon Diocese Wagga Wagga (for school improvement). Student reports will be available on Friday 28th June via the Compass Portal. An informaƟon sheet is aƩached to the newsleƩer to heighten your awareness as to the change in format and presentaƟon of infor- maƟon around student learning in the reports. If any queries when reading the reports please contact your child’s teacher. SLOW ME DOWN, LORD Slow me down, Lord, Slow me down! Ease the pounding of my heart By the quieting of my mind. Give me amid the confusion of my day The calmness of the everlasting hills. Break the tensions of my nerves and muscles With soothing music of the singing stream That lives in my memory. Help me to know the magical restoring power of sleep. Teach me the art of taking minute vacations, Of slowing down to look at a flower, To chat with a friend, to pat a dog, To read a few lines from a good book. Slow me down, Lord, and inspire me To send my roots deep into the soil of life's enduring values That I may grow towards the stars of my great destiny. Amen Working bee is scheduled for Sunday 30th June at 12pm. The work will include dissembling the old exisƟng adventure playground and placing equipment that can be reused in storage. Your help will be greatly appreciated. Many hands make light work. Your generosity will be appreciated. If you are available to assist please contact Derek NighƟngale on 0429933934.

A word from Mr King Resilience in our Children

(thoughts by Michael Grose)

Every day there are opportuni es for parents to give their children lessons in resilience. Promo ng personal resilience focuses on helping kids cope with life’s hurts, disappointments and challenges in the present, while building strengths for the future.

“Oh well” One great way is to use the phrase “Oh well” when hearing of difficul es or disappointments.  It is not a way of brushing it off, or making light of        situa ons, but in certain circumstances it can mean;

Stuff happens

Don’t look for fault or blame

Keep your perspec ve

Pick yourself off and con nue with what you were doing (Be resilient)

Michael Grose, a leading paren ng expert, recommends that when a minor incident occurs

Match your response to the incident

Stay calm and be posi ve

Don’t look for fault or blame

Remember, stuff happens

Our reac ons make a huge difference It’s in our reac ons to these and other every day mistakes, mess-ups, muck-ups and hurts where the big lessons in resilience are taught and                reinforced, and every day there are opportuni es for parents to give their children lessons in resilience.

A child misses being picked for a rep team. “Oh well. Let’s work hard and try again next year.”

When a child finds someone doesn’t want to play with them. “Oh well. You’ll find that some people don’t want to be your friend.”

There are mes when “Oh well” won’t cut it.

When a child is treated badly over a period of  me and needs your con nued support.

When a student’s con nuous efforts at improvement are going unrewarded then you may need to act on their behalf and meet with the   teacher.

When a child is always worried about walking home from school or catching the bus then you may need to help them look at different op ons.

These types of situa ons also present opportuni es for daily lessons in resilience, but they require more parental support and teaching.  The resilience lessons learned are deeper and include concepts such as ‘things will eventually go your way,’ ‘there are  mes when you need to seek help’ and ‘this too shall pass.’

Daily lessons in resilience are everywhere. You need to be ready to make the most of these valuable lessons when they come your way.

Mr King

Our students needed to use

cooperation to make sure all members of their team were able to fit within the hoop structure. To do this they needed to listen

to all ideas, assist via giving directions and be open to new

possibilities.

RECYCLING Year 6 students taught the rest of the school the important message about

recycling. They went to each class to talk about the different bins at our school and what items need to go in

them. Great work Year 6!

A very generous response from our

families to support the St Vincent De Paul

Winter Appeal. Thank you!
