Weekly Calendar
Dear Friends, This year for the celebration of the Epiphany, I invite you to join in the beautiful tradition of blessing your home. As you leave the church today after Mass, please take a piece of blessed chalk. When you get home, follow the simple and beautiful rite provided below to bless your home and literally mark this spe-cial occasion and God’s blessing on your home. The “C, M and B” which you will write have two mean-ings. The first is the traditional names of the wise men who visit Jesus on this day: Caspar, Melchior and Bal-thazar. The second is the Latin phrase: “Christus man-sionem benedicat,” which means “May Christ bless the house.” As you take part in this simple and rich tradi-tion, may each of your families be blessed today and the whole year through!
Sincerely in Christ, Fr. John
Instructions for Blessing the Home Using the blessed chalk mark the lintel of your front door (or front porch step) as follows:
20 + C + M + B + 20 While saying: The three Wise Men, Caspar, Melchior, and Balthazar followed the star of God’s Son who became human two thousand and 20 years ago. May Christ bless our home and remain with us throughout the new year. Amen. Then offer the following prayer: Visit, O blessed Lord, this home with the gladness of your presence. Bless all who live or visit here with the gift of your love; and grant that we may manifest your love to each other and to all whose lives we touch. May we grow in grace and in the knowledge and love of you; guide, comfort, and strengthen us in peace, O Je-sus Christ, now and forever. Amen

“Charity that leaves the poor person as he is, is not sufficient.” – Pope Francis
Guided by this quote from Pope Francis, Catholic Charities set about re-imagining how to serve the poor through
the Transition Out of Poverty program. Families in need are now able to schedule an appointment to receive
food. Volunteers meet with clients in a one on one setting to understand their most important challenges and direct them to
resources. Catholic Charities provides services that lead to transformative change in the lives of the participants.

What is The 1882 Fund?
Our newly established annual giving program. This fund will allow Sacred Heart Catholic School, a Rowan County institution since 1882, to continue to provide students with innovative academics, virtue and service learning opportunities. Investing in The 1882 Fund is an effortless way for all supporters to show their commitment to the mission of Sacred Heart Catholic School.
Why are we starting The 1882 Fund now? In order to keep tuition affordable and competitive, we rely on the generosity of donors and supporters of our school fundraisers. These funds allow us to make up the difference between tuition revenue and the actual cost of educating a Sacred Heart student.
We have heard your feedback and concerns about the need to streamline how you make your investment in our school. Due to volunteer time constraints and several different giving options, we understand our supporters would like a more simple way of giving. A singular annual gift commitment provides the opportunity. to show your support of our students, teachers and families. Our combined gifts support all aspects of the Sacred Heart community including academics, arts, athletics, financial aid and al development. WHY SHOULD I INVEST IN THE 1882 FUND? OUR STUDENTS Support our cutting-edge curriculum, state of the art technology, outdoor educational experiences, fine and performing arts opportunities and student athletics all being led by faith and virtue. OUR TEACHERS Enhance professional development opportunities for our teachers who make our students the top priority every school day! Continued learning opportunities for faculty and staff is vital to maintaining current educational trends. OUR FAMILIES Did you know that Sacred Heart Catholic School awards several hundred thousand dollars in Tuition Assistance every year? YOUR INVESTMENT makes it possible for families to attend Sacred Heart who otherwise would not be able to attend. A faith based education should be available to ALL who seek it! MATCHING INVESTMENTS Several families have committed to matching all investments made to The 1882 Fund. Meaning, every dollar you invest will be doubled for the benefit of Sacred Heart. When does The 1882 Fund Campaign begin? January (The campaign will run through early March). For any questions please contact Camile Denhard at 704-633-2841 Ext 211 or email [email protected]

Sacred Heart School WILL OPEN Junior Kindergarten Class in Fall 2020
Why Junior Kindergarten? The academic success of children in elementary school years depends heavily upon their kindergarten readiness. Our JK program helps children develop primary skills that form the foundations of reading, counting, and social interaction. It is also important to nurture skills such as the ability to focus, think logically, recognize important words, demonstrate some self control, and speak clearly.
What will make Sacred Heart’s Junior Kindergarten Special? *Small - our class size is limited to 8 *Safe and secure - our campus also has many outdoor learning environments *Nurturing - daily communication with a licensed early education teacher *Collaborative & Creative - many learning opportunities for children to grow academically, physically, spiritually, socially, and emotionally *Smart - our reading and math curriculums are proven and research-based *A whole-child approach that includes instruction in Art, Music, Spanish, Religion, Technology, and PE.
Our JK will be a full day program (8am-3pm) that also offers Before & After School Care. Before school care is available beginning at 7:30am. After school care is available from 3-6pm. A $500 deposit is needed to reserve your child’s space. Tuition is very comparable to local star-rated day care and full day programs in our community; however, Sacred Heart’s program will be a strong academic program focused on developing skills needed for kindergarten and also include art, music, physical education, technology, Spanish and religion classes. Students must be 4 years old before August 31, 2020 to enroll. Call Camile Denhard in the school office for more information (704) 633-2841.
