My Dear Friends, Beginning tomorrow, June 8th, we will begin having public Masses again but only for weekdays. I will have a temporary new Mass schedule for these Masses until we are able to get together again on Saturday night and Sunday morning. At these daily Masses, the guidelines from the Archbishop states that only one hundred people may attend. We will have hand sanitizer in the churches, but if you have your own please bring it with you. Holy Communion will be distributed, but you are not obligated to receive Holy Communion. If you feel at all unsafe in receiving Communion, then please do not come forward but make a spiritual communion in your pew. It goes without saying that people should be spread out unless you are a family or a couple attending together. Please respect space even when coming forward for Communion; stay six feet behind the person in front of you. The Archbishop has asked that there be no congregational singing as well. We will have music but only Lou will sing. The Archbishop has also asked that everyone wear a mask with certain exceptions: children under the age of two; parents should judge whether those between two and five; and anyone who has an underlying condition that is detrimental to his or her health, as long as it does not pose a risk to others. I am fully aware that the issue of wearing a mask has become volatile in our country, so I ask you to please respect the rights of everyone who has come to Mass. As we have seen recently in our country with the riots that have occurred, confrontation is not healthy or safe. If you are not able to wear a mask because of an underlying health condition, please respect other people and sit far away from anyone who is wearing a mask. Our churches, especially St. Jerome’s Church, are big enough for the small number of people who will be present that everyone should be safe. The Mass is about offering God his praise and thanksgiving. We are united as brothers and sisters in Christ to come together and worship together with one heart and one mind. Our country, due to the riots and racial injustice as well as two months of quarantining because of this pandemic, has caused many people to become divided. Division is from Satan. Satan would love to have Catholics at Mass angry with one another and confront one another because it will take away from the Glory of God that is His due. We are together at Mass once again so that our Lord Jesus Christ will be able to nourish us with his Body and Blood. If we take the necessary precautions and respect where other people are coming from, we will take one big step towards the unity that is in Christ.

God bless, Fr. John
