The 4-H member must have completed three years of record books to be eligible for the scholarship! Scholarship applications were emailed to the senior members! Congrats to Chase Hurd for receiving the 4-H Endowment Scholarship!

Feeding Iowa Assistance Needed Iowa has seen a 65% increase in demand at food banks, food pantries and congregate meal sites. One third of their volunteers are over age 55. Since they are at higher risk from COVID-19, there are fewer volunteers available to help. If you can volunteer, visit COVID-19 Food Distribution Opportunities and search by zip code. Please review guidelines for volunteering.

4-H Club Highlight Opportunity Available

We are looking to feature different 4-H clubs across Iowa on our Iowa 4-H social media platforms. We want to see the great things clubs have done and hear what makes each one unique. Promote this opportunity with your club leaders and have them complete this simple JotForm. It includes an option to upload 1-4 photos of the club in action.

4HOnline Animal ID Family Help Sheet has been updated for 2020 with the recent changes. The 2020 State Fair Market Broiler Entry is June 1. The entry is now in FairEntry. Help sheets are on the 4-H Poultry page and the 4-H Livestock State Fair webpage. The 2020 State Fair 4-H Premium Book is now posted under "Premium Book and Exhibitor Info" section.

Livestock Updates Now Posted

The time has come to start thinking about county nominees for the 2020 Hall of Fame. It’s a great way to rec-ognize volunteers and staff who have exhibited outstanding service to the 4-H program. The deadline for names, accompanying biographies, contact information, and photos is Sunday, May 31. Please dis-cuss this in your 4-H club and let Steph know of ideas you may have for nominations!

4-H INFORMATION

All sheep and goats to be shown at the 2020 Sac County Fair will need to be tagged. As of right now there will NOT be a sheep and goat weigh-in. There is a possibility that we might have to complete retinal imaging for State Fair goats and sheep but waiting to hear back from the State 4-H Office. Please pick up your tags at the Sac County Extension Office, please notify Steph the number of ear tags and the date for pick-up.

Sheep/Goat

Livestock ID Deadline – the deadline to ID livestock has been bumped back to June 1st

this year. This applies to ALL livestock that are usually identified by May 15 including: Breeding Beef, Dairy Cattle, Dairy Goat, Dog, Horse, Meat Goat, Poultry, Sheep and Swine. Rabbits will remain at the July 1 deadline. Please do not wait until last minute to complete this task! Ear Tags & Taggers – if you need to get ear tags please let me know how many and what type of ear tag and we will set up a time to come to the Sac County Extension Office to pick them up. Our office is locked to the public so it is im-portant to set up a pick-up time! Swine – We will be using a new USDA tag this year for all swine . We WILL have to have ear notches this year (disregard previously stated information that we wouldn’t). For state fair swine we will be using a NEW DNA punch col-lector. The same process as in the past, pick up ear tags, tagger and State Fair punch collectors and envelope for State Fair. Return the envelope on or before June 1

st. I only have one State Fair punch collector so it will be important that the

punch collector gets used and returned within the same day or the next day. I also have an ear notcher and a guide if needed. There is no weigh-in so all supplies will need to be picked up from the Extension Office. State Fair DNA punch collectors are still $8/tag. Breeding Beef & Bottle Calves – don’t forget you also need to pick up ear tags and ID them in 4hOnline. Breeding Beef – ALL breeding beef will need to have a tattoo just like last year! We have a tattooer, ink and numbers. Please let me know when you would like it as we will set up a time to come to the Sac County Extension Office to pick it up and I only have one so it will need to be returned the same day or the following day! All other animals are the same and need to be ID’d in 4hOnline by June 1

st! I have attached the helpsheet for Identifying

Livestock in 4hOnline! FFA Members – you will still need to complete a paper ID form by June 1

st and return to the Sac County Extension Of-

fice! Sac County Fair entries will still be due July 6

th!

ID Information

Again this year - we are asking 4-H exhibitors to identify their animals in 4HOnline. Remember that only animals identified can be shown at fair. Animals that need to be entered in 4HOnline include swine, cow/calf pairs, breeding beef (unless you already identified animal at Jan. weigh-in), sheep, horse, dairy cattle, bottle lambs, bucket/bottle calves, poultry, rabbits, pets, meat goats (breeding only), or dogs. What to do to enter animals in 4HOnline: 1. Go to https://iowa.4honline.com and login like you did when you enrolled in 4-H. 2. Once you are in the program, find your name and click "Edit". That will take you to your Personal Information Screen. On that screen near the top of the page you will see a tab titled “Animals/Livestock”. Click on the tab. 3. There you will see a drop down box and any previously entered animals listed. Select the animal type you want to en-ter and click the “Add Animal” button. 4. Enter the information requested and click the “Save” button. All animal IDs must be submitted no later than June 1st at 11:59 PM. At midnight the program will shut down and the only animals you will be able to add after that are rabbits and poultry. Rabbits and poultry can be added until 11:59 PM on July 1st. Make sure that any animal that you plan to exhibit (with the exception of rabbits and poultry) is on the list before you close out!

For Iowa State Fair market swine: You will need to come to the office and get your ear tags ($8 each) first and then complete the entry online. State Fair is now requiring ear notches along with the DNA punch tag.

Horse Exhibitors: You will need to upload 4 photos (front view, rear view, left side view, and right side view) to com-plete your entry. If you have problems with this, please contact the Extension Office.

For Dairy Exhibitors: — Must have 2 of 3 identifiers—tattoo/ear tag # or registration # or photos (2 total left and right side)
