agenda I am asked during the Public Comment portion of the
meeting each month to share things happening in the library.
Also, the public librarian from the branch next to our school
also presents each month and shares the public library
monthly calendar. I also share at the PTO meeting which is
right before the SAC meeting at 2:15 and is also held in our

Call to Order: A meeting of the GAMBLE ROGERS MIDDLE SCHOOL Advisory Council
was held in the media center at Gamble Rogers Middle School on 08/27/2019. SAC
chairperson Tracy Melgard called the meeting to order at 3:07 p.m. Jennifer Clarke will
record minutes for this meeting.
Agenda:
Welcome: Tracy Melgard
Approval of April minutes: Ms. Wall made a motion to approve the minutes. Ms.
Urban seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.
Review of Robert’s Rules: presented by Tracy Melgard
SAC Bylaws and attendance: presented by Tracy Melgard
-SAC members stay informed of the going-on at GRMS. We highly encourage our
families, and staff to be SAC members. Voting members may have 2 excused
absences.
Motion: Mr. Russell motioned to approve the bylaws. Ms. Holbrook seconded the
motion. The motion passed unanimously.
Financial Report/Title One/Principal’s Report: presented by Greg Bergamasco
-Current SAC budget = $3676.22
-GRMS is fully staffed for the 2019/20 school year, welcome all new staff!
-Total student count is at 922.
Stingray Solutions: presented by Renee Downey
-Positive behavior interventions and support
-Ways to celebrate good behavior and remind students of the expectations at
school.
-Attendance will be a major focus of Stingray Solutions.
Schoolboard Update: presented by Mr. Mignon
Gave updates on the state of schools and transportation in the district.
Funds Request: presented by Mrs. Ziecheck and Mrs. Leitner
-$872.00: to attend the Florida Foreign Language Association conference
Motion: Ms. Barnes approved the motion. Ms. Corpuz seconded the motion. The
motion passed unanimously.
Funds Request: presented by Mr. Radaker
-$525: cover the cost of one team of 10 students to participate in First Lego
League competition.
Motion: Ms. Wall approved the motion. Mr. Boles seconded the motion. The motion
passed unanimously.

-Volleyball games start September 9th! On the horizon……

minutes. Ms. Lennon seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.
Financial Report/Title One/Principal’s Report: presented by Gina
Middaugh
-Current SAC budget = $2044.22
School Improvement Plan: presented by Gina Middaugh
-86% of students met high standards in civics.
-68% of students met high standards in math.
-Acceleration points increased from 61 in 2018 to68 in 2019.
-Learning gains of the lowest 25%
-School culture: new this year…. Stingray Staff Spotlight, and Positive
Behavior Incentive System
Mystery Skype: presented by Mr. Greco
-By using mystery skype students learn how to ask significant questions, how
to problem solve and narrow done information received, and geography skills
as well.
Funds Request: presented by Mrs. Clarke
-$151: to attend the Florida Council of Social Studies conference
Motion: Ms. Wall approved the motion. Ms. Wilson seconded the motion.
The motion passed unanimously.
Public Comment
-Loads of new activities at the Southeast Branch Library, calendars
available. Brain Fuse available; free on-line tutoring.
Gardening Anyone?: presented by Kevin Gamble
-GRMS is the only St. Johns County School with an agri-science program.

-A 3 year grant giving teacher’s professional development training, and new
equipment to use within the classroom
Foreign Language Association Conference Update: presented by Ms.

-Sonya Gardner is the official parent representative for new Spanish
textbook adoption.

-Ameris Bank: School Spirit Program, tag your bank account and at the end
of every quarter the bank will make a donation to the school of your choice
(GRMS)

-Current SAC budget = $1893.22
AVID Coaching Demo Day Update: presented by Greg Bergamasco
-AVID was impressed with the culture of our school, the relationships between
teachers and students, the focus on collaboration and writing, the engagement of
students during lessons, and that every kid has access to higher level classes.
-The next AVID visit date will be in February, and will determine if we will be an
AVID Demonstration School
Mental and Emotional Health Education: presented by Denise Summerix
-New legislation requires Mental Wellness Education
-3 major components:
a.) 5 hours of mental health education for students in grades 6-12
b.) Substance use and abuse for grades k-12
c.) Child trafficking for grades k-12
PTO: presented by Sandra Lepore
-PTO will be holding a parking lot fundraiser this Friday December 13th – 15th
-Looking for volunteers to fill spots on Saturday December 14th
Public Comment
-December calendar is now available for the public library.
-GRMS is applying for 2 library awards, and will need volunteers to fill out surveys
about our library.
Fieldtrip, an art walk to the band room: presented by Tracy Melgard
-SAC members had a chance to peruse the beautiful creations of GRMS students.
Band Performance: presented by Christina Gilchrist and her amazingly talented
students
-GRMS Jazz preformed “You Got a Friend in Me” and a small preview of the
upcoming Winter Concert.

Suite C of the Hastings Branch Public Library on 1/28/2020. SAC chairman Tracy Melgard called

-GRMS robotics team has just finished second place in the Robotics challenge. The team is
now off to championships.

-SAC members reviewed questions on the SAC Survey.
Hastings Branch Library Happenings: presented by Alex and Emily
-The Hastings Branch Library acts as more of a community center with health and social
services provided.
-Brainfuse Help Now offers live tutoring for free with a library card!!! (available on the St
Johns County Library website)
Community Partnership School (SWES): presented by Ms. Dewitt
-4 core partners: 1 nonprofit, 1 university (St. Johns River), 1 healthcare facility (Flagler
Health), school district (SJCSD) that strive to increase student success at school, providing
access to resources to improve physical and mental health, increasing parental involvement,
and empowering students to shine!!!
AVID leadership demonstration: presented by Mr. Bergamasco
-A time line of the GRMS AVID journey.
-AVID site team goal.
-School culture.
School Board Update: presented by Mr. Mignon
-The school board is thinking of creating regions for school bussing! Woohoo!
-Only 6 more years left on the half cent sales tax, encourage voters to vote again for the
sales tax! Running schools is expensive!
