World in a Hybrid State
contrasts in consumption as well as communications and the dissemination of information. The fact that publics exist
everywhere is as much a reality as their distinct identities. That you need to communicate and engage is as true as thefact that not everyone wants to listen to you. The given that media exists across the globe, one form of media is not a
given. What held true five years ago, does not hold true today. That publics in some markets in a sense have 'evolved',
it is true that those who had evolved some years ago, may well have gone back in time or even regressed.
To us and given the context of India, all of these truths, definitions and distinctions, co-exist every moment. As a result,
there can't be a single model of business or a single way of communication or a common public that behaves like
imitations of each other or in a homogenous manner that some markets have the comfort of.
We call this Hybrid. You can't spend or focus on just one model or type of communication. The media no longer exists
in one or two or three organised forms. Even they have to spread themselves to adapt to the ever-changing evolution
we are witnessing. A reporter is no longer the same person he was a few years ago. At the same time, the story-tellers,
that's us, have had to tailor-make our narratives keeping in mind not just the medium but also the audience. That
audience too, is changing. They don't have merely one source of information. They have multiple sources.
To many this hybrid form of functioning is a challenge. To others, it is an opportunity and a serious one for our industry
which knows what it is to engage with people whoever and wherever they maybe.
