Prelude, Welcome, and Announcements

Drawing Near to God Call to Worship (Responsive) Based on Psalm 108

My heart, O God, is steadfast; we will sing and make music with all our souls. Sound loudly, trumpet and flute, harp and lyre! Make music and we will sing and awaken the dawn.

We will praise you, Lord, among the nations; We will sing of you as a congregation. For great is your love, higher than the heavens; your faithfulness reaches to the skies. Be exalted, O God, above the heavens; let your glory be over all the earth.

*Hymn of Praise (Screen) All Hail the Power of Jesus’s NameAllowing God to Shape Us

Call to ConfessionJesus modeled for us a life of humility and faith, and calls us to follow his example. Where have we fallen short of being Christ to the world this week? Let us confess our sins to -gether.

Prayer of Confession (Unison)Merciful Savior, it pains us to recognize ourselves as Pharisees, to see and acknowledge that we are better at talking about our faith than actually living it; that we are more concerned with our appearance before others than the purity of our hearts before you; that too often we are motivated by our need for appreciation, admiration, and ap-proval rather than by your compassion and unconditional love.

[Moment of Quiet Self-reflection]Forgive us, we pray,

and free us from all that holds us captive to selfishness, fear, pride, and greed, for these diminish the image of you that is in each of us. Instead, empower us to fully embody the joy of living as your children; we ask for the sake of Jesus Christ, our Savior and Friend. Amen.

Words of Assurance (Responsive) The mercy of God is from everlasting to everlasting, and 1 John 1:9 carries the promise that, “ If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify

us from all unrighteousness.” Friends, hear the Good News and believe: In Jesus Christ you are forgiven. Alleluia. Amen.

Coming Before God’s Open Word Children’s Blessing and Invitation to Youth Sunday School (Unison)

Lord Jesus, lead our children into an understanding that you willingly offered yourself up on the cross so that they might be righteous, without sin in the eyes of God, and that they might enjoy abundant life with you for all eternity. Amen.

Song of Prayer for Illumination (Screen) Speak, O Lord Scripture Reading Romans 8:6-11 Message “The Conundrum of Sin” Responding to God's Word Together, Testimonials, and Prayer of Blessing

Silent Prayer for Those Seeking to Acknowledge Christ as Their Savior:"Dear Jesus, I confess that I'm a sinner, and not right with you. I repent and ask forgiveness. I believe that you died on the cross to take my punishment and to pay the price for my sins. I believe that you rose from death to give me new life. Wash me clean from all sin, shame, and guilt, and come into my heart as my Lord and Savior. In your name I pray. Amen."

Celebrating God, His Care, and His Abundance Offering/Offertory *Doxology #809 Praise God from Whom All Blessings Flow*Offertory Prayer (Unison)

As we give our gifts Lord, we confess that we sometimes give by rote and routine. We tend to give what we always give, guarding our wallets, when instead, we should be giving generously. Receive, we pray, the offerings of our hearts and lives, that your name may be hallowed, your gospel proclaimed, and your kingdom come on earth as it is in heaven. Amen.

Prayer Requests and Pastoral Prayer *Hymn (Screen) There’s Power in the Blood*Benediction, Blessing, and Response Hymn My Friends May You Grow in Grace

My friends, may you grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior. My friends, may you grow in grace, and in the knowledge of Jesus Christ.

To God be the glory, now and forever, now and forever, amen. (2x) Postlude

(Continued on next page.) Concerts in the Village (CITV) continues its 9 th season this afternoon here at the church with the Broad Street Orchestra and five exciting soloists from the Bard Graduate Vocal Arts Program: BEAUTY! TEXTURE! EMOTION! – A CENTURY OF VOCAL AND ORCHESTRAL MUSIC FROM FRANCE – 1840-1940. David Smith, CITV’s Artistic Director, conducts, along with Assistant Conductor Noah Palmer. Included will be seven remarkable works from the 19th and 20th centuries, for orchestra and for voice with orchestra, by Berlioz, Duparc, Chausson, Debussy, Canteloube, Ravel and Milhaud. Among the works being performed is Debussy’s “Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun,” justly famous for its stunningly beautiful textures and much beloved by music listeners throughout the world. This will be the sec-ond concert underwritten by CITV’s Emerging Singer Fund established in 2018 by the largest single gift in CITV’s history. During the current 2018-2019 season this fund is underwriting three concerts, two with orchestra.

CHICKEN BAR-B-Q PLANNED FOR SUNDAY, MARCH 10 Consistory is sponsoring a chicken Bar-B-Q dinner Sunday, March 10. This will be a “kick-off” fundraiser to be followed by a series of Bar-B-Q fundraisers, one planned for March 31st of this year, as well as one each on Sundays in January, February, and March of next year. The kick-off event on March 10 will be available to our church family and friends in particular, and will be offered as an eat-in dinner following Worship. The price of the meal will be $12, and will include ½ chicken, baked potato, a delightful “se-cret recipe” cole slaw, and dinner roll. Tickets are available now from members of Con -sistory, and proceeds from this event will be used to help pay for capital repairs badly needed at the parsonage. Future Bar-B-Q’s will be advertised and opened to the public, and will generally be take-out rather than eat-in. They are planned for winter months because this is the time of year when families are not likely to do a Bar-B-Q for themselves, but are apt to respond to the off-season temptation of enjoying one prepared by someone else! Suc-cess of these fundraisers will depend, to a large extent, on the participation and support of our immediate church family and friends and our willingness to promote these events among neighbors and acquaintances. Proceeds from future Bar-B-Q’s will be used to address a variety of priority financial responsibilities of our church. We are appealing for volunteers to help with the March Bar-B-Q’s. If you are willing to assist in this ministry, please contact Wayne Van Allen, 518-339-8972.
