Collect For The Week
Almighty God, you show to those who are in error the
light of your truth, that they may return to the way of
righteousness: grant to all those who are admitted into
the fellowship of Christ’s religion, that they may reject those things that
are contrary to their profession, and follow all such things as are
agreeable to the same; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord,
who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever.
Amen

Dear all,
Lent literally means spring, the season of the year which sees death change to life. Not
simply life, dreary life, but life that is full of vibrancy, colour and sound. Quite simply put it
is the season of a full life. As in the physical so it is with the spiritual. Jesus said “I have
come that they might have life and have it abundantly.” John 10:10 (NRSV) or in all its
fullness as the NIV puts it.
In the Gospel reading for this Sunday the 2nd in Lent we read of Nicodemus’ encounter with
Jesus. Jesus speaks to him of the new birth, being born again. This new life is the result of
the movement of the Holy Spirit, the very breath of God. In John 1 we are told “But to all
who received him, who believed in his name, he gave power to become children of God,
who were born, not of blood or of the will of the flesh or of the will of man, but of God.”
John 1:12,13 Born where the Spirit of God breathed life. The reason He did this was
because He loved the world so much, that He gave Jesus, His only begotten Son, so that in
believing we are born again into this new Life.
Next week we will look at the abundant life and discuss the obstacles to it.
Blessings, Revd. Canon Garth Nathaniel
Rector’s Reflection
Please pray for Pat Hale who is undergoing treatment for cancer. John and Pam Butler remain our point of contact for updates. Meals are taken care of for this week, but if you would like to offer a meal at some point in the future please contact Chris McLaren.
You can still make a gift toward our new kitchen through envelope giving or the bank. Contact Pam, our treasurer, for more information. The cupboards that were taken out have been moved up to the top-floor landing as storage for catering equipment. If you need to use these cupboards for storage, please ask one of the wardens.
The Lent Course: “Talking Jesus” has started. We are holding two sessions a week so that as many people as possible can attend. Join us weekly on Tuesdays at 12 noon including a light lunch or Wednesdays at 7:30pm, both in the Huband Room.
The St. Peter’s Electoral Roll is now being revised.
If you would like to be added to the electoral roll or change your
details, please fill out the form which you can collect from the
Huband Room.
