Addi"on During Massasss

We will ini"ate a blessing upon the persons who will journey to bring communion to nursing homes and/or the homebound. This blessing, given by Father or Deacon Steve or Rich, reminds us that we are ALL one in the Lord Jesus, and that although physically absent from our midst, our community is one in the sacrament of the Eucharist. The prayers of all of us go with the minister who travels from place to place, and we remember these community members. The blessing will occur just before the THIS IS JESUS song, before all come for communion.

Dear Folks, It has been many years since sharing a regular bulle"n

column with you. With many new hearts bea"ng with the Life of the Holy Spirit in our local Church, I thought a personal introduc"on would be helpful.

God Bless you this Fourth of July weekend with true freedom, a freedom found only in Christ! Here is a beau"ful prayer: God, source of all freedom, this day is bright with the memory of those who declared that life and liberty are your gi' to every human being. Help us to con"nue a good work begun long ago. Make our vision clear and our will strong: that only in human solidarity will we find liberty, and jus"ce only in the honor that belongs to every life on earth. Turn our hearts toward the family of na"ons: to understand the ways of others, to offer friendship, and to find safety only in the common good of all. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Godspeed, Father Dave

Buena suerte, Padre Dave

Finance Minutestes

The Finance Council met on Thursday, June 17, 2021 at 6:00 pm. Sister Marlita led us in prayer. The minutes from May were approved as emailed. The May Financial Report was reviewed and discussed. Laurie Jonasen reconciled the bank statements. All is fine. We received an update on the Roncalli Catholic School Capital Campaign. We discussed the future roof and parking lot projects. The third dra' of the budget was reviewed. A'er some minor changes, the budget for 2021-2022 was approved with no increase in the weekly "the. The Safety and Security Commi-ee is looking for new members. We discussed the Debt Re"rement Party. Thanks to those who are organizing this. The date is August 1, 2021 from 2:00 - 5:00 PM. "Mortgage Burning" is scheduled for 3:30. We looked at some parish uses for the house. We need to find a new mower for both St. Wendel and St. Isidore cemeteries. Father Dave joined us. He shared his work schedule with us. The Finance Council's next mee"ng will be Tuesday, August 17, 2021 at 6:00 PM.

Gree"ngs!gsgs gsgs!! “525,600 minutes! 525,000 moments so dear! 525,600 minutes - how do you measure, measure a year: in daylights, in sunsets, in midnights, in cups of coffee, in inches, in miles, in laughter, in strife. In 525,600 minutes - how do you measure a year in the life? How about love? 525,600 minutes! 525,000 journeys to plan; 525,600 minutes - how can you measure the life of a woman or man?” These lyrics from Rent have special meaning. In the 65 years of life given to me, it is about the rela"onships with people that have enriched life beyond what these few words can tell. These rela"onships had their start in May of 1956 when a 7 pound blond, blue-eyed baby was born to Caroline and Victor Beaudry, the true “baby” of the family behind older brother Douglas (who could tell many stories, but has been sworn to secrecy). The fi'h member of the household was my li-le French grandmother (Dad’s mom), who lived with us because Mom was diagnosed with Mul"ple Sclerosis, which eventually claimed her life at the age of 46. My Dad lived in Manitowoc the last years of his life, un"l the age of 95. We grew up in Green Bay, 5 blocks from the Holy Land: that’s Lambeau Field, folks. Dad wanted to make sure that we learned our ABC’s and so sent us to school: St. Joseph Grade School, St. Agnes Grade School, and Sacred Heart Seminary/Center High School for Chris"an Forma"on (educated by Franciscan Sisters of Chris"an Charity). At this point, my brother and I chose different paths: he to Brown Ins"tute for broadcas"ng, and me, to St. Norbert College, St. John's University (Minnesota) and Catholic University (Washington, D.C.) My Dad jokingly called me “his son with the pedigree!” Humility comes in many ways. A'er almost answering the call to be a husband and a dad, the community’s call to serve as priest was stronger and said “yes, with all my heart” to ordina"on in June of 1982 and a life filled with experiences and the gi' of rela"onships beyond my wildest imagina"on. Not just geographic places, buildings and programs, but people: St. John the Bap"st, Silver Spring, Maryland; St. Mary, Oshkosh; Holy Cross, Kaukauna; Saints Peter and Paul, Green Bay; St. Mark, Two Rivers; St. Casimir, Northeim; St. Joseph, Alverno; St. Isidore, Osman; St. Wendel, Cleveland; St. Thomas the Apostle, Newton; Holy Spirit, Darboy/Kimberly; St. Francis of Assisi, Manitowoc, Roncalli Catholic Schools and now St. Thomas the Apostle once more. The field of healthcare is a special love and teaching a profound passion, humbled to serve as adjunct from 1997-2020 at Silver Lake/Holy Family College, as well as teaching in The Emmaus Program for the Diocese of Green Bay. There is so much to learn, cook and yes, to sing! I look forward to being one of your servant leaders, proclaiming with you the greatest rela"onship in life that ma-ers: God is deeply in love with us all! Thank you for being the music of my life! Father Dave

ALL ARE WELCOME!!!!!!! All St. Thomas the Apostle members, old and new, are invited to a&end the August 1 Debt Re"rement Party. Sign up is encouraged, please. Our community will gather to enjoy one another and have a picnic meal. The plan is to be outside or inside, depending on the weather. Music will be provided 2:30-4:30 PM in the Social Hall with a Bob Kuether Trio. We will begin serving food at 2:00 PM. At 3:30 a short break in food service will allow for a brief history of the parish, a prayer, and the burning of the loan on the East side of the church. Some outside benches will be provided, but you can also come with your own picnic chairs, if preferred. Bring a good appe"te and come to enjoy one another and celebrate together. You may come and go as you wish.

Sharing the Gospel Have you ever felt le' out? Jesus did. In today's Gospel, Jesus visited his rela"ves and old friends. These were the people he grew up with, the people who knew him the best. All of a sudden Jesus was not ac"ng like he used to. They heard that Jesus was healing people, raising people from the dead, and telling evil spirits to leave. Jesus was even teaching about God's kingdom, like he really knew what he was talking about! Well, Jesus' old friends and neighbors did not like it one bit. How sad for them. God's own Son wanted to help them, but they didn't want it. Prayer Dear God, help me to listen to you and to accept the help that you want to give me. Amen. Mission for the Week Read today's Gospel with your family. Talk about ways that people some"mes turn Jesus away. Pray together, asking God to keep you close to Jesus. ©2008 - PO Box 510817, New Berlin, WI 53151-0817 - 1-800-950-9952 x2469 - LPiResourceCenter.com

GOSPEL MEDITATION N

It’s all so ordinary that we can easily miss it. The seagulls hun"ng and diving for mollusks at the beach offer a display of determina"on and precision as they gather their food for the day. It’s simply what these creatures do. Yet, there’s a magical arXulness and skill to their work that speaks volumes about the One who breathed life into their being. This is pre-y much the way it is with God’s presence. God comes in common ways through common things and ordinary people. Sadly, we are so engulfed in our li-le worlds of order and ideas to no"ce the beauty and wonder of it all. Many have numbed themselves to the Divine spark at the essence of all life because that’s just the way it is. What’s so special about it? A sunset is a sunset and a seagull is a seagull. That’s precisely what they thought about Jesus too. A'er all, isn’t he just the carpenter’s son? What merit can his words possibly have?

If we’re looking for God to come in an event that is so drama"c and intense that it knocks our socks off, then think again. When pondering God’s rela"onship with His people and God’s ac"on in our lives, we have to go back to the stable and the recurring, crea"ve, unending power of God’s presence. It was a quiet, run of the mill kind of night. There was nothing spectacular or extraordinary. To the naked eye, a woman gave birth to a child and there wasn’t anything extraordinary to see. We have a hard "me understanding God’s ordinary-ness. Jesus grew up in an ordinary town, had neighbors and did normal human things. Perhaps that’s why we don’t always like the Gospel. It doesn’t dazzle us with extraordinary things but simply challenges us to take a different look at our ordinary stuff. That makes us uncomfortable. We prefer things as they are. Our lack of faith can even cause us to take offense at what Jesus says and does, dismissing it as folly.

God’s life-giving presence con"nues to sustain that seagull in flight and keep all things in being regardless of whether we have the faith to see and understand this. Our personal agendas, preconceived ideas, misconcep"ons, and expecta"ons can o'en cause us to be hardened and blinded to what God is doing or desiring to do. While God con"nues to do what he has done for all eternity, faith is needed for God’s presence to bear fruit. The blinders we wear and the expecta"ons we bring to life can o'en prevent us from seeing graced moments that radiate with God’s graceful presence. They also prevent God’s transforming, healing, and hope filled vision for our world from being realized. Without faith, God won’t be able to do much for us either. ©LPi

No solo lugares geográficos, edificios y programas, sino personas: St. John the Bap"st, Silver Spring, Maryland; Santa María, Oshkosh; Santa Cruz, Kaukauna; Santos Pedro y Pablo, Green Bay; San Marcos, Dos Ríos; San Casimiro, Northeim; San José, Alverno; San Isidoro, Osman; St. Wendel, Cleveland; Santo Tomás Apóstol, Newton; Espíritu Santo, Darboy / Kimberly; San Francisco de Asís, Manitowoc, Escuelas Católicas Roncalli y ahora Santo Tomás Apóstol una vez más. Buena suerte, Padre Dave
