SS. PETER & PAUL
Introduction To The Liturgy of The Day
We return today to Sundays in Ordinary Time. In a sense “Ordinary Time” is time that falls outside the major holy seasons of the year: Easter, Christmas, Advent, and Lent. But Ordinary Time is not just the absence of a major season any more than our lives are ordinary on days that are not holidays. Ordinary Time forms the foundation of the liturgical year; after all, it comprises almost two-thirds of the calendar. May we appreciate the heft of Ordinary Time as we settle into the longest season of the year.
Sacrament of Baptism Parents seeking baptism for their child at Ss. Peter and Paul Church should be registered members of the parish. The Sacrament of Baptism for infants is normally offered on the last Sunday of the month (except during Lent) after 10:00 a.m. Mass. To schedule a baptism, please contact the Parish Office.
Sacrament of Reconciliation The Sacrament of Reconciliation is celebrated on Saturdays, 4:00 – 4:45 p.m. or by appointment with Father.
Sacrament of Matrimony Couples wishing to be married at Ss. Peter and Paul Church should contact the Parish Office at least six months in advance of the wedding date.
Anointing of the Sick Anyone who is seriously ill and wishes to be anointed, please contact the Parish Office during business hours.
Communion for the Homebound Anyone who is homebound and would like to weekly receive Holy Communion, please contact the Parish Office.
Hospital Visits Due to the medical confidentiality laws and hospital policies, the names of individual patients are not available upon request. If anyone wants a hospital visit from the pastor, please call the Parish Office.
Eucharistic Adoration Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament is normally held on the first Monday of each month from 9:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.
Becoming a Catholic Anyone who is interested in becoming a Catholic or learning more about the Catholic faith is invited to participate in the RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults). For more information, please call Karen Seaborn at the Parish Office.
Prayer Chain Ss. Peter and Paul Parish is a community of faith and prayer. Anyone with a prayer request (illness, special intention, etc.) is asked to call Michelle Miskell at 618-407-2415 to have the prayer request included in the parish prayer chain.
Parish Registration Ss. Peter and Paul Parish wants to serve the Catholics of the community. It is essential that all Catholics be registered with the parish. All adults (including high school graduates) and those new to the community are requested to contact the Parish Office to register.

I know that a number of parishioners had anticipated the Eucharistic
Procession on the Feast of the Body and Blood of Christ (Corpus
Christi). Unfortunately, we had to cancel the procession because of
the fact that three of our young parishioners passed out within a few
minutes of each other at 10:00 Mass. Thankfully, they are all doing
better. Thanks to Dr. Michael Kirk and all others who were on hand
to assist in any way. It is indeed very commendable when we care
for each other as members of the same family.
I am pleased to announce that we now have a new principal for
Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic School. She is Lori Matzenbacher.
Lori is a resident of Waterloo, a member of our parish, and her
daughter is enrolled in our Early Learning Center program. Lori has
spent the last 18 years with the St. Louis Public School District. For
the past five years, she has been an Academic Instructional Coach
developing curriculum for her school district and providing
professional development for teachers. She was also a member of
our School Board this past year. Lori’s official start date as
principal is July 1, 2018. Please join me in congratulating
and welcoming her.
I would like to sincerely thank our current principal, Lisa
Buchheit for her leadership in the school over the past 16 years.
Lisa has been exemplary as a principal and has made a lot of
positive impact in the school, parish, and in Waterloo. This has
been attested to by students, staff, and parents alike. Thanks to Lisa,
our school is a force to reckon with in Monroe County. Lisa, we are
going to miss you dearly. We pray the Lord to bless and keep you as
you move to another phase in your life.
I am also pleased to announce that we have hired Catherine Burkart as
our New Pastoral Associate for Youth Faith Formation.
Catherine holds a master’s Degree in Pastoral Studies from
Aquinas Institute of Theology and a Bachelor of Science Degree
in Psychology from Culver Stockton College. She is currently
the Coordinator of Mission Effectiveness and the Campus Minister
at Notre Dame High School. We are pleased to have Catherine to
our parish. Catherine begins in this role in the first week of July.

SAVE THE DATE – MAKE UP SESSION
Renewal/Formation for all Liturgical Ministers
On Sunday, June 10, after 10:00 a.m. Mass and on June 13 at 7:00 p.m. in Church, Deacon Tom will provide a make up session for those who were unable to attend this renewal/formation back on February 11. You only need to attend on June 10 or June 13, not both. If you have been a minister for a short time, or a long time, or if you signed up for a Liturgical Ministry on the Stewardship Forms that you recently turned in, please plan to attend this renewal/formation. Liturgical Ministers play an important role in providing us with an environment for full and active participation in the Eucharist and Diocesan guidelines recommend annual renewal, formation, workshops, etc. for our ministers. This renewal/formation is for all Liturgical Ministers (Hospitality, Lectors, Ushers, Cantors, Choir, Gift Bearers, Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion, Musicians, etc.). In addition, Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion (EMHC) must renew their mandate from the Bishop every 3 years in order to continue to serve as an EMHC. There will also be an opportunity for the respective coordinators of each ministry to meet with their respective groups to provide specific instruction and answer questions specific to each ministry. If you have any questions, please contact Deacon Tom at the parish office or [email protected].

P[rish S]hool
of R_ligion
The Mission of Ss. Peter and Paul PSR is to help students have a faith that is conscious, active, and alive in their hearts. PSR is offered to all parish youth entering grades 1-8 who attend
public school. Classes are held on Wednesday evenings beginning at the end of August and continuing through the beginning of May.
Catechists and classroom assistants are needed for the upcoming PSR year. All parishioners are invited to assist in the ministry of sharing faith with others. A commitment of time, a love of Jesus, and a desire to share your love of Christ are the only requirements! Please pray over this invitation; see if God is calling you into this ministry within our parish. For more information regarding the PSR program, please contact Angela Atkinson, the PSR Coordinator, at [email protected].

Grief Support Group 1st and 3rd Monday of each month
10:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon
Adult Faith Formation House
Losing a loved one to death is a difficult journey. Spending time with others who are going through the grief process or have gone through the grief process can help you to see that the thoughts, feelings and experiences you are going through are normal. Those who attended our first four Bereavement Groups found it to be very helpful. Our support group has now evolved from a nine-week course to an on-going support group that will meet on a regular basis, twice a month, on the first and third Mondays of each month at the Adult Faith Formation House. Please call Janel Holmes at 618-974-9409 or the parish office (939-6426, Karen at ext. 22, or Cate at ext. 11) if you would like to learn more about this group, or if you would like us to contact someone you believe would benefit from this group.

You can also drop off items Monday-Thursday, June 18-21 from 9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m., or 6:00-8:00 p.m. Please, no beds, sofas, TVs, or comput-ers. Help is needed each day and evening to set up the sale. ! GOLD RUSH DRAWING !
If you are reading this on Saturday, you still have time to buy your Gold Rush ticket (or an additional one)! The first 2 $1,000 prizes are being drawn on Saturday night at 10:30 p.m. at the parish picnic. If you are reading this on Sunday, you could have been one of 2 $1,000 winners! All names will be posted in next weekend’s bulletin. As of June 5, we had sold 325 tickets. All net profits are divided evenly between the parish general fund and parish grade school. Tickets are $100 each or you can get a group together to buy one or more tickets. You have 9 chances to win $1,000 or more.
