Fueling Activity

During FAGIOLI activities various types of stationary and mobile equipment are required for the work (SPMT,cranes, strand jacks …). The equipment contains considerable quantity of hydraulic oil distributed along circuitswhich operate at high pressure, therefore some leaks may generate from engines and connections. Thefollowing actions are implemented in order to prevent and manage spills:

‐All equipment undergoes pre‐site mobilization inspection and daily pre‐use inspection;‐Sensible components and connection which are more likely to leak (e.g. mini‐jacks, coupling of highpressure hoses, etc.) are wrapped using oil only absorbent padssecured with zip ties, absorbent pads should be checked on daily basisto allow early identification of leak‐Small stationary equipment are contained in secondary containment(drip trays), accumulated water is drained from drip trays or, if itcontains oily sheen, it is removed with absorbent pads and disposed as hazardous waste‐Portable spill kits are strategically located around site.

Fueling of equipment has the potential to cause fuel spills to the land or the marine environment, andrepresent a significant environmental risks in relation to FAGIOLI scope of work and shall be performedwith extreme care.

‐Transfer of fuel is limited to approximately 95% of the storage capacity of the receiving equipment,tank or container. When fueling activities are executed by marine vessels or fuel trucks, marinepersonnel and truck operators are supervised by FAGIOLI personnel for the whole duration of the task.‐Portable tanks, if required on site, shall comply with local legislation and project requirement. Tanksshall be double walled or berm constructed for 110% containment, they shall feature external level gaugeto monitor liquid levels and interstitial monitoring devices to detect any fuel within the double wall. ‐Equipment being fueled must be shut down prior to fueling whenever feasible.‐Operator moves the fuel hose with the end wrapped in an absorbent pad until it is inserted into theinlet of the receiving equipment, tank or container, the same appliesonce fueling is over. ‐When fueling the operator or worker executing the task must ensurethat a drip tray is positioned under the fueling point and that

appropriate spill kit is readily available. Ifdispensed fuel spills on the sides of thecontainer it shall be wiped clean with a rag orsorbent pad, contaminated rags/pads shall bedisposed as hazardous waste.

Spill Prevention

Wildlife Disturbance ‐ Noise Reduction

In order to avoid any spill leaks , Fagioli took some measurementsto its equipment to collect oil and other material that could fall outduring operations. All spills will be assessed for potential Health &Safety hazards and the appropriate control is put in place before anyspill response is attempted. Assessment factors may include thenature of the product spilled, the volume spilled, whether the spill isin an enclosed space such as a building or outdoors etc. Spill responsetakes priority over other work activities and the following steps areimplemented by the individual who initially observes the spill/release:‐ Inform Supervisor, Superintendent or Project Site Manager;‐ Approach from an upwind direction in the event of any harmful or explosive vapors; ‐ Isolate the source of the spill andshut down or move equipment that could act as an ignition source; Locate the nearest spill kit and deploy spill containmentmeasures as appropriate; If efforts to stop the spill/ release are unsuccessful, evacuate the area immediately and preventaccess of vehicles and pedestrians. Cleanup of releases/spills to solid surfaces generally involve workers using contents ofa spill kit. Any spill to water, or spills to land whose response and cleanup require an intervention that exceed the capabilitiesof FAGIOLI workforce, are managed according to site Emergency Response Plan, if needed, by involving local authorities.

Potential wildlife disturbance due to FAGIOLI activities or due to noise and vibrations generated by FAGIOLI’sequipment will be minimum and limited to the surrounding of the area where the activity is taking place. Themain noise emission associated with FAGIOLI activities are those generated by the engines of transport/liftingequipment. Data was gathered during a recent survey performed to assess noise exposure levels of FAGIOLI employees(the document is available in Italian language). Thenoise generated by FAGIOLI equipment is comparableto the noise generated by other heavy equipmentcommonly used in construction sites. Furthermore notall these equipment will be operated simultaneously,their operation is discontinuous and most of the timetake place during daylight working hours.

Waste Management

Hydraulic System with Electric PPULOW EMISSION POWER PACK UNITSFagioli uses last generation of Power Pack Units (PPU) to power strand jacks and SPMTs. These PPUs provide anelectrical powered system with a very low emission for the environment. These PPUs can be linked together in orderto get the necessary power to raise and lower the strand jacking system connected to limitless tonnage loads. Oldgeneration PPUs (powered with diesel engines) are used as spare units in case of malfunction of the electric ones.

«FAGIOLI WASTE MANAGEMENT PROCEDURE» includes an analysis of the main steps to be followed for asustainable handling of waste material used by Fagioli operators and employees.

Estimated quantity of Fagioli waste material is «small». Most of waste material is recyclable or reducible.

PREFERRED

APPROACH

FAGIOLI ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT, in cooperation with localauthorities and third party associations, is involved in the issuingof dedicated studies for the defense of the environment. In specificand sensitive areas, it’s mandatory to issue GEOTECHNICAL ANDSTATIC CIVIL ANALYSIS in order to safeguard the environment(forests, deserts, national parks..) and the existing civil structures(bridges, old towns…) during the passage of a heavy transportconvoy. In some cases Fagioli has been called to issue dedicateddocuments for the removal or the «explosion» of wrecked buildingsand bridges. Fagioli works in strict collaboration with third party engineering companies specialized in the risk analysisof removal / explosion activity of civil structures, in order to minimize the impact on the environment.

Sanilog is the Italian supplementary health carefund of the NHS for employees operating in thelogistics, transport and shipping industry. Sanilog wasestablished in 2012 by the will of trade unions andemployers' organizations to offer concrete supportto the private health expenditure of workers in thesector. Fagioli personnel can benefit of SANILOGservices. Fagioli, in full collaboration with BeOne Development finalized in 2016 a tailor‐made versionof the SPMT e‐learning safety training for Fagioli S.p.A.
