PER CURIAM.

Arthur Willis Foley is granted a belated appeal from the November 5, 2012

order summarily denying his motion for postconviction relief and directing the

Clerk to reject any further pro se filings from Foley. For the reason set forth

below, we affirm in part and reverse in part.

We affirm the summary denial of the Rule 3.850 motion on the merits.

However, we reverse the order to the extent that it forbids Foley from submitting

further pro se filings. The record shows that the trial court directed "the Clerk of

Courts to reject any further pro se pleadings, unless an attorney signs such

pleadings," without affording Foley the opportunity to respond to a show cause

order before imposing sanctions. A court must "first provide notice and an

opportunity to respond before preventing that litigant from bringing further attacks

on his or her conviction and sentence." Spencer v. State, 751 So. 2d 47, 48 (Fla.

1999); see also Johnson v. State, 75 So. 3d 368 (Fla. 3d DCA 2011), review

dismissed, 99 So. 3d 943 (Fla. 2012). Because Foley was not given the required

meaningful opportunity to show cause why sanctions should not be imposed, we

reverse that portion of the order. This opinion, however, does not preclude the trial

court from issuing a show cause order as to why Foley should not be prohibited

from submitting any further pro se filings.

Affirmed in part, reversed in part, and remanded.
