In June of 2017 Jivamukti Yoga Jersey City teamed up with the Jersey City HDSID to create the first ever Yoga Fest in Jersey City. It hap-pened on the weekend of the summer solstice, also known as Inter-national Yoga day. Starting at 7am and ending around 5pm, more than 500 yogis participated in a street event consisting of 108 Sun Salutations, Meditation, Music, and a yoga class with a well know international yoga instructor. In addition, there were over 30 vendor booths with a large variety of offerings from henna tattoos to healthy beverages and a selection of yoga clothes and paraphernalia. Many of the yoga studios in Jesey City participated in the spirit of unity and there were several thousand onlookers thoughout the day. The vision of the event is to expand in the coming years to make it a real destination and evolve it into a 3-day event.

What is Yoga Fest?

In June of 2018 Jivamukti Yoga Jersey City teamed up with the Jersey City HDSID and Jersey City Cultural Affairs to create the first ever Yoga Fest in Jersey City. Held during the weekend of the summer solstice in celebration of International Yoga Day, local yoga studios and instructors came together in the spirit of unity and oneness along with 500 yogis and several thousand onlookers and participated in a street event. Yoga Fest has ex-panded every year and in 2020 will feature 100 vegan food and product vendors. We are expecting over 4000 onlookers as well as over 1000 yogis who will participate in over 25 unique events. There will be activites for all ages includingchair yoga and a stage dedicated to kids andfamily yoga. The vegan componant will allowhungry yogis and visitors to feast all day.

Yoga Fest in 2020

The vision of Yoga Fest Jersey City is to evolve and expand it into an event attracting thousands of people from near and far. Expansions for 2020 are as follows:

• Added performers on stage• Larger Chair Yoga Tent • More Vegan Food & Products• 100 Vendor Booths• All Day Kids & Family Yoga• Street Closure at Barrow

Additional Yoga Workshops will take place Sunday June 21 at Jivamukti Yoga Center Jersey City with a headline international yoga teacher and special musical guests.

Vital to the success of any event is corporate sponsorship. Each year the festival has grown and in 2020 we are expecting over 1500 registrants for yoga classes and 4000+ attendees. Corporate sponsors have the option of branding the individual yoga areas with banners displaying their corporate logos and messaging. Yoga Fest attracts visitors from all around the tri-state area so it is an excellent opportunity for companies to display an ongoing committment to a healthy lifestyle. The sponsorship money goes towards the following:

Yoga Studio Participation

The theme of the Yoga Fest is to honor unity through yoga as well as a celebration of the divirsity and wide range of yoga offer-ings in Jersey City. The first portion of the yoga fest begins with 108 Sun Salutations. We have invited participation from studios around Jersey City and their instructors to assist in this ritual of honoring the longest day of the year with a celebration of yoga.

In 2020, we will be adding additional programs leading up to and after the event.

Vendor Booths

In 2018, Yoga Fest Jersey City had approximately 30 vendors with booths located at the Grove Street Plaza. In 2019, vendors will be moved into the Pedestrian Zone of Newark Avenue. This will allows for better integration between street activities and vendors. Products and services must be yoga related and can include body work, henna tattoos, yoga supplies, jewelry, books, wellness and personal training. Vegan Food Festival

In 2018, very little was offered in the way of food and drink. Expanding the event into the second pedestrian block has pro-vided ample space for food and beverage outlets. All food prod-ucts are vegan to promote the yogic tradtion of non-violence. Green and sustainable products are a major component of the event. Non-vegans will be amazed at the excellence of this food.

Nirvana Tent

The microworkship tent is larger this year because of the high demand. The chair yoga and panayama sessions were especially popular. The sessoions will also include various topics like pra-nayama, anatomy, nutrition, ayurveda, sound healing, veganism and activism. The schedule is available online starting in April.

All Day Music

The all-day music stage has added a rich range of styles from classical indian music to kirtan to rap and reaggae. This year we will also add short entre’act performers between the musical performances like contorsionists and aerial yoga.

Kids and Family Yoga

Yoga can be fun for the whole family. In 2020, an area of family yoga and stage will be added with classes and activities through-out the day. It will be a excellent opportunity to introduce family members to yoga. Bring your entire family in 2020!
