The orchestra was originally formed after a visit to Oundle by the celebrated author Alexander McCall-Smith, who founded our Scottish cousin, “The Really Terrible Orchestra”, based in Edinburgh.

The Rusty Players was founded by Oundle resident, and abandoned clarinet player, Chris Gill, and it has grown steadily to its present size with all departments filled.

The orchestra itself has no auditions: if you have an instrument, an open mind and a music stand you are in! We work at a vast selection of music from Brahms to Bernstein.

We meet once a fortnight and our members range from young 20 somethings to over 80 – some are retired, others use the orchestra as an escape from the rigours of work, or as time-out from looking after children!

We give regular concerts in halls and churches in the area, and are recently returned from a highly successful weekend tour of Cromer and Blakeney! In May 2016 we undertook an ambitious tour of the Loire Valley in France!

For the second year we are privileged to be included in the Oundle International Festival.

The Rusty Strings have a separate repertoire, and regularly perform in the Oundle Festival Fringe.
