4th Sunday of Advent Greetings, December 20, 2015
Pope Francis declared a year of Mercy. He calls on each of us to seek forgiveness and to grant forgiveness to others. He also issued a call to the Sacrament of Reconciliation. There is still plenty of time before Christmas to come to reconciliation. Use the published times OR call either Fr Don or myself to set a private time. In prayer and action think about a friend or family member that may need forgiveness or to ask forgiveness from.
In reconciliation I have been reminding people that forgive and forget are two separate words for a reason. When we get hurt we remember so that we do not do it again. I knocked my head against a brick wall one time to know I will not do that again. God is the perfect example of the difference between forgetting and forgiving. God knows everything but out of love for us He chooses not to see our sins once we have sought His mercy and forgiveness. It is hard as a human not to tie the action of a person to our definition of who that person is. But when we separate the action --- from the person --- we continue to love the person but do what we can to not allow the hurtful action to continue. As an example: a child may yell to mom and dad “I hate you!” As parents they do not label and abandon the child but seek to find a manner in which the difference can be resolved. That’s how it is with God and all of His children...
In our society we sometimes have difficulty when it comes to dealing with people who are not like us. It might be their race, or actions, or comments. The difficulty is when all people of a race or religion are labeled because of the comments or actions of a radical few. We are celebrating Advent anticipating the coming of the Christ child. Would Mary, Joseph and Jesus be welcomed in our community? Would we hold their nationality against them? Would we hold their extreme poverty against them? Recent comments by politicians and on social media against Muslims are a concern. Are we condemning all followers of Allah because of the actions of some extremists?
Our second reading this Sunday: Hebrew 10:7 Then I said, “As is written of me in the scroll, behold, I come to do your will, O God.” created a question: Think of a person you know who serves quietly but effectively. What qualities of that individual would you like to emulate to become a better servant to others in Jesus’ name?
Merry Christmas! May God bless you with His presence in your day to day life! May you be able to witness to His presence to others. Merry Christmas! Jesus loves you and so do I! Fr Chuck

THOUGHTS ON MERCY… “Jesus is the face of the Father’s mercy. These words might well sum up the mystery of the Christian faith… Jesus of Nazareth, by his words, his actions and his entire person reveals the mercy of God.” ~ Pope Francis
Giving Tree Any donations from the giving tree should be dropped off at the church or Parish Office (with the Giving Tree tags) no later than December 21st. Thank you for your generosity!
