Renew your faithful climb during Lent….

Our Lenten Series continues this week with Rev. Louis Sogliuzzo, SJ

Father Sogliuzzo was ordained a Jesuit priest at Fordham University

in 1987, eight years after first entering the Jesuit Order’s Northeast-

ern Province. Following ordination, he began ministry work at the

Loyola House of Retreats in Morristown, N.J. A year later, in 1988, he

became a member of the North American Forum on the Catechumen-

ate. During his tenure with this national organization, he “perfected

his commitment to the work of reconciliation through the Remember-

ing Church Experience”.

Fr. Sogliuzzo subsequently joined the Jesuit Community at LeMoyne

College and, as head of the College Campus Ministry team, he directed

college students on international service projects in such third world

countries as Kenya and Ecuador. Continuing with a particular focus on

his commitment to Ignatian Spirituality, Fr. Sogliuzzo serves as a staff

member of the Spiritual Renewal Center, maintains a professional

association with Christ the King Retreat House and provides assis-

tance at certain parishes in the Syracuse Diocese.

God reveals himself to us through the Bible. We come to know Him

and ourselves better when we study the Word. Sr. Brigid O’Mahoney

breaks open the meaning of Scripture and how we can apply it to our

lives. The next meeting will be on March 10th and 17th, from 9-11am in

the Media Room.

Bring a Bible and a friend. We’d love to have you join us!

Ladies * Ladies * Ladies

Come be a part of the St Charles/St Ann’s women’s group

focused on faith and community fellowship. Join us for our

next meeting Wednesday March 21st from 6:30-8:30 in

the Parish Ministry Center (convent). We will begin with

a pot luck dinner followed by a presentation. Please bring

a small dish to pass. All are welcome. Contact Sue Rader with

any questions. P: 315-254-6298 or [email protected]

Mystery Players

The Immaculate Heart Central High School Mystery Players from Wa-

tertown, New York, will present a creative and profound Stations of the

Cross, a central meditation piece during this season of Lent, at St.

Lucy’s Church, 432 Gifford Street on Saturday, March 10 at 7:30pm.

Using the sanctuary of St. Lucy’s Church as a stage, the Paschal Mys-

tery is recreated in a moving, dramatic fashion. Join us for this

prayerful and powerful prayer experience.

This may not be appropriate for young children. Respect Life

Archbishop Joseph Naumann, Archbishop of Kansas City, Kansas, was

chosen to be Chairman of U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops’ Com-

mittee on Pro-Life Activities. The Archbishop is a tremendous choice

and an outspoken opponent of abortion and everyone who supports it.

For example, during the 2016 Presidential Campaign, Archbishop Nau-

mann called Hillary Clinton’s “Catholic” running mate—Sen. Tim Kaine

of Virginia– an “orthodox” Democrat but a “cafeteria” Catholic based

on his public support of abortion. CatholicVote is excited for the fu-

ture of the Church’s full participation in the fight to end abortion under

the leadership of Archbishop Naumann, and invites all Catholics to

thank him for his leadership to date and assure him of their prayers.

….and continue your daily, heaven bound journey

What to do on February break when you are NOT in Florida? That’s a question students and parents ask themselves during this winter break. Well, if you are a member of YIM (Youth in Ministry) at St. Charles-St. Ann’s, you were very busy!!

On the last Friday of school before break began, some of our YIM members took part in a 24 hour Famine to raise funds and awareness for the fight against hunger. A dozen of our youth group members and adults spent an evening together at the Ministry Center keeping very busy while not eating. The evening started off with Stations of the Cross with Sr. Eileen at St. Charles, we then headed off to Solvay Bowling Lanes for some fun! After 3 games of bowling, smell-ing pizza and snacks while our stomachs were growling, we headed back to the Ministry Center. We worked on making blankets for teenagers who are pa-tients at The Golisano Children’s Hospital. We were able to cut and tie 6 large blankets to be donated. The next morning, we visited St. Patrick’s Church for a tour with Michael Goodnough. We learned so much about the history and the beauty of St. Patrick’s. We ended our Fast with pizza and Tully Tenders – they never tasted so good. Our small group raised $300 to be used to buy toiletries for Assumption Food Pantry. It was the perfect way to start our Lent and feeling just a bit hungry gave us a lesson well learned. Thank you Michelle Cook, Keith and Brianna Condon for helping to drive and chaperone!

Tuesday of February break, 2 van loads of YIM members traveled to help out at Joseph’s House. It was our first time there and we learned so much about the ministry and the Lord’s work being done for homeless women and their children. The director Kitty Spinelli shared her life story on just how she started Jo-seph’s House – it was so moving and so inspirational. We worked for 2 and ½ hours in the very large attic, sorting children’s clothes and cleaning up the dif-ferent rooms. We really enjoyed helping them out, Kitty explained that they never have a large group to do this busy work. We hope to go again real soon and we thank Madison Prowak, one of our Peer Ministers who introduced us to Joseph’s House – she in founder of the youth board there and we are so very proud of her. Thank you to Nina Scrimale for helping to drive and working hard right alongside of our teens!

Thursday night of break was a fun night – bonfire at the Ministry Center with S’mores and snacks and then a game of Train Dominoes. It was a perfect night for a fire and we really hope to have more campfires to enjoy. There was talk of roasting hotdogs and Starbursts!! Keith is definitely the best fire keeper!

The last day of break proved to be the best time spent by far!! Our Confirmation 1 candidates traveled to the Emmaus Center on South Salina Street. We learned so much from Sheila Austin about the ministry there to the community of the South side. She shared her life story as well and we were just so moved on how this building and ministry came about. Through the grace of God and the many volunteers, the homeless and the forgotten are tended to with love and compassion. There is always a hot meal, a warm welcome, a place to get a haircut and a shower! God bless the work of the Emmaus Ministry! We next jour-neyed back to Onondaga Blvd. right down the street from St. Ann’s and we had the best experience ever! We visited the Senior Housing Apartments and served the residents soup and cookies and biscuits that we had baked previously at the Emmaus Center. We met 30 or more residents and we had the best time running Bingo and just getting to know each other. They loved our visit and asked for us to please come back! Thank you to Susan Couture, Keith Condon and Marie Cullen for driving and joining us on this great Service Retreat! We hope to visit the Senior residents real soon and we are so thankful to Sheila Austin for helping to orchestrate this amazing afternoon! So maybe it wasn’t the nice sunshine of Florida or a ride at Disney World, but February break for teens at St. Charles-St. Ann’s was life changing and we are so thankful!
