Thank you so much for all of your donations for the Burngreave Food Bank, this is what we have collected so far, we aim to have a huge pile of non-perishable food to donate by Wednesday 25th October, we only have a few days to go!

On Wednesday 25th October we will hold a Liturgy in the community centre which parents are welcome to attend. During this liturgy we will celebrate the generosity of our children and families and remind ourselves of all that we have and that we are grateful for. Please help us to make a real difference to the lives of those people, who for whatever reason, find themselves on the poverty line.

The food bank urgently needs:

Fruit juice (long life) Instant mash potato Instant noodles Powdered milk Tinned fruit

They are also low on stock of:

Carrier bags Disposable razors Hot chocolate Long life puddings Laundry soap (small) Vegetable oil Washing up liquid

You can visit the website to find out more:

After School Clubs It’s time to sign up for clubs for next half term!

Last week, we attached the list of clubs available after the holidays. To book a place for your child, you need to visit the cash desk in the school office, the deadline for booking places is Friday 27th October. If you want to sign up online using Agora, the deadline for booking places is Friday 3rd November! If you have any questions about after school activities, please speak to staff in the school office

Milk If your child is NOT having school milk at the moment, you can sign up for after the holidays! The cost of milk (up to Christmas) is £5.95, you have an option to pay for the entire year, details are available from the cash desk in the school office.

Holiday Activities SIV have sent us an email to let us know what they have planned for the half term holidays, the information has been forwarded to those parents who have given their email address to us.

If you are not currently receiving alerts from school electronically, please email school with the subject ‘Add My Email!’ and the names of you and your children, and we will connect it up with your record in our parent database.

BUNS

This Friday it is the turn of school staff to provide the

buns!

Every week, a different year group brings buns to school

on Friday. The buns are sorted and distributed, and all of the

children in school have the chance to buy a bun, it costs

20p.

If you are happy for your child to have a bun on Friday, you need to send them with 20p

on that day. If a child does not have any money, we assume that you do not want your

child to have a bun.

All of the money raised from bun day is used to buy lovely things for the children. When

we have a theme day in school, for example, Children in Need, the money collected

that day is donated to that charity. This week, money raised through the sale of

buns will be donated to the Burngreave Foodbank.

Action: SR to notify EY to enable DJ and Bouncy Castle to be booked. AGM The next AGM will be held on Wednesday 6th December 2017 at 9:15am.

Roles and Recruitment It is important to recruit new members for the committee this year. Sara is hopeful that there are newer members who will now be willing to take on a committee role. Liz and Sola are willing to continue in their roles as Treasurer and Chair. Sara will stand down from the role of Secretary, and Norma will stand down from her role as Vice Chair as neither will have children at school after this academic year.

Class Representatives Fiona suggested that we look at the need/ role of class representatives. It may be more constructive to change the title, and have representatives with a parent voice on different areas i.e. reading or diversity. Action : Sara to include class representatives and proposals for a different structure on the Agenda for the next AGM Parental views on Website Sola suggested that the website could be more interactive, and may be difficult to navigate by parents who have a first language other than English. Liz explained that news and photos are not routinely posted on the website, and agreed that it would be a good idea to have a Twitter feed on the Home page. Fiona said that considerable work had gone into improving the current website, through which parents could now access much more information. Sola wondered if it was now too ‘wordy’ for some parents though? Fiona pointed out that much of the information on the website is now a statutory requirement; a school website needs to meet the needs of a wider audience. Action: Sola is to email school with some example websites and suggestions for improvement for school to consider Parent Forum Workshops The workshops are working well, and are now well attended. Everyone is satisfied with the content and frequency. The workshop timetable was amended to include slots for Diversity Workshops – The World in Our Playground. Action: Tricia to circulate a copy of the final timetable

Family Learning Sola asked why Family Learning sessions were not running at the moment. Liz explained that crèche facilities were no longer available and so a crèche would have to be hosted in school; there is a difficulty in providing an additional space. There is an additional cost to school of having a crèche, too much in the present economic climate. Family Learning had therefore been placed on hold for the Autumn term until a solution can be found. Funding Applications There is currently about £6,500 available in Parent Forum funds. The Parent Forum constitution currently requires a reserve fund of £2,000 to be retained in the bank, therefore current funds available are in the region of £4,500.

Application for Poetry Books Funding Miss Waller’s application for book funding of £668.16 was approved by the Committee.

There has been one other funding application received during the academic year 2016/17; a request for £4,000 for immersive classrooms. Parent Forum did not support the application when it was received, as it would have used up most of the funds. More information is required before the application can be reconsidered.

Bank account signatories Zainab, Sola and Liz will arrange to visit the bank and arrange for the new signatories to be added. Action Sola to contact Zainab to agree a suitable time M & M Productions M & M Productions will not be visiting school this year due to limited funds. Unfortunately not enough parents are making the £2.00 voluntary contribution towards the cost. Sola queried whether Parent Forum can fund a production. Fiona queried whether the children may get even more benefit from visiting a theatre to see a production. Staff are currently looking at ways to do this, within current budget constraints. Action: Sara and Sola to raise this at Parent Forum coffee morning Parent Forum Chosen Charity 2017 City of Sanctuary was the chosen charity for last year. Sola suggested the Children’s Hospital could be the new charity. Liz reminded the meeting that the Children’s Hospital is already the chosen charity for the piano concerts held twice each year. Fiona suggested that the City of Sanctuary could continue as our chosen charity for this year, and that Rodrigo from City of Sanctuary could be invited to come in and speak at a Parent Forum coffee morning. Action: Sara and Sola to raise this at Parent Forum Coffee morning Toddler Group Funding Sola had been asked to raise the issue of school providing resources for Parent Forum toddler group. In previous years, toddler group have accessed some resources from school supplies. School supplies are manages differently this year, and are only accessible to school staff. Sara noted that the toddler group collect quite an amount of money each week from parents who attend, which is deposited in the Parent Forum bank account. Parent Forum will always be willing to release money for the purchase of resources, when required, if there is not enough money in the weekly collection. Action: Sola to feed back to Toddler Group Any Other Business There is a lot of second hand uniform available to purchase at each Coffee morning. Liz will remind parents in the upcoming newsletter. Date and time of Next Committee Meeting: 17th January 10:00am Meeting closed at 12:25pm
