Flu vaccination is available every year on the NHS to help protect adults and children at risk of flu and its complications. We recommend that eligible patients get their flu jab sooner rather than later. Here’s why:-

Having a flu vaccination is a positive lifestyle choice as it helps to protect those around you as well as giving individual protection.

You are eligible for a flu vaccination because you have a long term condition or age puts you at increased risk of flu and the complications of having the virus.

Healthy children are offered the flu vaccination because some children can develop a high fever or complications

from flu. Healthy children are more likely to have to be admitted to hospital with flu than any other age group.

Protecting children against flu helps to stop the spread to other more vulnerable family and friends.

For children with long-term health conditions such as diabetes, asthma or heart-disease, getting the flu can be really serious and these vulnerable children are at greater risk of developing serious complications.

Flu is much worse than a heavy cold. Flu symptoms can be severe and can come on suddenly. You are likely to spend several days in bed and feel very unwell. Some people become seriously ill and may have to go to hospital.

You are eligible for flu vaccine because you need it.

The flu vaccine is very safe.

The flu vaccine is the best protection we have against an unpredictable virus

The flu vaccine cannot give you flu. Your arm might be a little sore where you were injected and some people have a slight temperature.

It can take up to two weeks for the flu vaccine to work so get vaccinated as soon as you can.

Your vaccination helps to protect those around you too.

This year we have experienced some difficulty in obtaining stock of some vaccines. Please book your appointment as soon as possible and while stocks last.

Dr Michael Skene

Dr Skene joined the practice in September 2019. He has moved from a practice in Taunton and prior to that was a GP Partner in Cheltenham. He is a GP trainer and educational supervisor . He and his young family enjoy the countryside and coastline and when time allows he can be found out on his road bike or running up hills!

Dr Craig Thompson

Dr Craig Thompson joined us in October 2019 from a practice in Exeter. He spent three years in Australia working as a GP before returning to Devon. He enjoys spending time with his young family and their golden retriever and his hobbies include gardening and travel.

for all. We will continue to offer a range of opportunities to our patients to participate in medical research that is of high quality, ethically approved and relevant.

Your doctor or nurse may ask if you wish to be involved in a research study that the practice is taking part in. You are under no obligation to do so and if you decline this will not affect your treatment in any way. We try to keep everyone up to date with our studies so please take a look at our website and at the notice boards in the surgery and inform

We are actively involved in research governed by the National Institute of Health Research (NIHR). We are part of the South West Peninsula Clinical Research Network (CRNSW).

As a practice we are pleased to be actively involved in research that helps find the answers to important medical questions. This in turn shapes better care in general practice and in the NHS as a whole. Our practice aims to improve the knowledge about illness and help develop better treatments and outcomes

reception if you are interested in taking part.

Anonymised patient data may be used for research that is in the best interest of patients and the NHS. This is sometimes requested by the Department of Health or National Research Teams to gain an understanding of illness and medicine on a national level. If you do not want to participate in any research please write to the practice manager.
