PROGRAM OVERVIEW

Each year, Clinical Scholars invests in experienced health care providers ready to embark on a transformative personal and professional journey. Clinical Scholars Fellows advance their leadership skills and implement a team-based health equity project in their community.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

To drive important change in every aspect of health and health care, the program seeks collaborative, curious teams from a wide range of disciplines and settings. Clinical Scholars Fellows apply in teams of three to five licensed health care providers, each with:

• Five or more years post-training and licensure in their chosen health profession.

• Community-focused research or program experience.

• Active roles seeing patients and/or training or supervising other providers.

• At least one team member who has a terminal degree for practice in their field.

PROGRAM ELEMENTS

Over the course of the three-year program, participants will:

• Receive grant funding—ranging from up to $315,000 for a three-person team to a maximum of $525,000 for a five-person team—to design and implement a real-world project, including salary support and project funding.

• Receive evidence-based and equity-centered training in leadership tools, policy, evaluation, community engagement, and other topics from national experts.

• Participate in semi-annual week-long onsites reinforced by distance-based learning and executive coaching that allows them to stay in their jobs and participate from their home communities. All travel expenses for onsites are provided to fellows at no cost.

• Become part of a national network of leaders spanning sectors and disciplines in health care and beyond.

RESULTS: ENHANCED SKILLS AND LEADERSHIP

Upon completion, fellows will be equipped to:

• Understand their leadership style and how to be increasingly effective.

• Advocate for positive change within their teams, organizations, and communities.

• Promote creative thinking, innovation, and thought diversity.

• Appraise, synthesize, and use evidence to guide practice and inform policy.

• Communicate, engage, and negotiate in a manner that creates win/win outcomes for all stakeholders.
