Community Impact Group (CIG)

Mentors: Steve Hyer and Shannon Moegling

Captain: Camron Members: Preston, Zach E, Jennifer, Jessica, Sejal, Regan, Michael R, Shelby, Courtney, Carter.

CIG is a team of committed students who develop presentations and publications telling people about RUSH. Because all of the students on CIG are also on another robot sub-team, we don’t meet as an entire sub-team in build season, but we still maintain communication about our individual roles in the management of CIG. This week, the Chairman’s Award Presenters have been working together to practice the speech and Q&A. In the weeks to come, the CIG team will be practicing Q&A, training the entire team, and developing the pit board displays.

ChassisMentor: James Captain: Andrew

Members: Steven, Michael, Diana, John, Amanda

This week, our team has been waiting for some parts to come in. However, we have been passing the time by assembling other parts of the robot. We have actually started working on the chassis! Towards the end of the week, our team has been able to complete the installation of the sliding wheel blocks and our awesome gearboxes! We hope to have the chassis rolling and wired by the end of the week.

Above ChassisMentor: Dennis Captain: Ryan

Members: Courtney, Melchior, Josh, Preston, Emilia, Jessica

This week above chassis had hoped to finish our prototype and test it so we can start building the final product soon. We are close to finalizing our design for the climber but this has been delayed due to a problem we uncovered with climbing; the robot will not be balanced in the middle of the pole so there is a chance that we could fall off. We must fix this and complete the climber in Inventor before we can build. Next week we will begin fabrication of the final climber and continue working on the mills if we have time.

ProgrammingMentors: Jason, Pat Captain: Matt

Members: Michael R, Mitch, Zach E, Zach P

Last week, we finished frisbee and lateral tracking code so we can track the targets and frisbees automatically. The driver station has been updated with custom views to make it easier for the drivers to see the camera feed and adjust the autons. We began documenting everything we have done over the past few weeks into a pamphlet that can be used in the future by other programmers and rookie teams. The new sub-team students continued to learn LabVIEW.

OCD (Object Collection Device)Mentors: Josh Captain: Ben

Members: Shelby, Jennifer, Joey, Regan, Carter

This week, OCD worked with the shooter. We tested a design with a six inch foam wheel, and a four inch rubber wheel. We also tested another with a four inch foam wheel rather than the rubber one. We chose different size wheels, because it enables us to create spin with the first, smaller wheel, and provide the shooting velocity with the second, larger one. Our goal is to begin fabrication of the final shooter by the end of this week, as we are still waiting on parts.

Scouting & Strategy S&S Mentors: Josh, Jason, Pam Captain: Jordan

Members: Jared, Nathan

This week, the Strategy & Scouting sub-team sees the light at the end of the tunnel. We have completed all Toolkit chapters through 9, all that’s left is the Rookie Resources. The Toolkit For Success App will be released by the end of this week! The new students rotated between the Programming sub-team and this sub-team, so now Zach P. and Zachary E. have joined Strategy & Scouting. At the end of this week, Scouting will be our number one objective; we will be working full time towards this year’s Scouting App.

ElectricalMentor: Jason, Jimmy Captain: Andy

Members: Camron, Sejal, Kristijan, Kirsten, Joe

This week, the electrical sub-team continued wiring the practice bot. We are also working on part placement, specifically with the sensors. As parts arrive, we organize and lay them out. We have spent most of this week laying out and wiring the practice bot, and soldering the PWM cables. We are having fun with our teammates learning how to wire the robot.

Buddy Basketball Team RUSH is now the proud sponsor of 2 Buddy Basketball groups. They didn’t have enough players for “teams”, so Team RUSH is now sponsoring the entire program. The dates below are when they practice. It would be very cool if we could go over and use the basketball robot to “play” with them for a few minutes - maybe challenge them to a game of HORSE?

Buddy Basketball is played at Everest Academy at 6:00 pm on the following Monday nights;

Captain’s Choice Joe has done a great job so far jumping right in to the RUSH family. Overcoming many difficulties with communication and our culture, succeeding within RUSH. Joe has worked diligently with the electrical team this week to get the Practice bot up and running. Being the go-to person for soldering, Joe is often assigned tasks that others struggle with and he always is able to get it done. When asked to do something, Joe will always get it done in a timely fashion and to the fullest of his capabilities. He has done a great job becoming a hidden leader over the course of this build season and we really look forward to his contributions in the future. Great job Joe!

Congratulations Joe L!

Parent of the WeekThis week’s parent of the week honors go to Paula Zalobsky. She has been critical in planning for this year’s open house, specifically organizing the food and drinks. Mrs. Zablosky has always offered great support for the team as we transition into competition season, from driving students to running errands. Thanks for your commitment to ensuring the team’s success!

Thanks again Mrs. Zalobski!

Rock Solid Recognition

Student of the WeekBen is being recognized as this week’s Student of the Week! He has gone above and beyond his duties as a sub-team captain for OCD putting in countless hours and supreme effort to get the robot to its current state. He has led by example and his humor and sincerity in the face of potential setbacks have kept the team motivated and moving forward. Congratulations Ben and thanks for all you do!

Congratulations Ben!

Clarkston Dermatology has been an outstanding sponsor for Team RUSH for the past 5 years and continuously increases their support! Specifically, Dr. McFalda of Clarkston Dermatology has been an excellent judge for our annual RUSH Regatta, even donating sun screen packets for everyone! She has also been a judge for the Holiday Lights parade. She was unavailable this year, but to no avail, she roped in one of her collegues, Dr. Kopitzski to judge, representing Clarkston Dermatology. So it doesn’t matter, on the beaches in the sun or on the streets in the snow, Clarkston Dermatology has always been there for Team RUSH! Thank you for being a tremendous sponsor since the beginning - kudos to this week’s Sponsor Highlight ... Clarkston Dermatology!

Thank You Clarkston Dermatology!
