The last several years has seen investors in the infrastructure system construction industry searching for solutions for reducinginvestment costs with advanced technologies. The phenomenon encompasses both new pipelines and the renovation of currentones. The additional pressure on municipal councils, resulting from paying damages for difficulties created by construction works,necessitates the application of modern and cost-effective technologies. That is why these technologies, like trenchless pipe-layingor pipe-laying without backfilling and packing (which is less time-consuming) are used more and more often.

In order to apply such methods of pipe-laying a new product is needed – a product that has its external surface durability severaltimes higher than normal and a higher point load resistance. Following these requirements, we have developed the RC MULTIsafe®

system. It is based on a two-layer pipe with a different external layer colour, all made of new generation PE 100 RC materials.Both PE 100 RC layers are molecular-bound during co-extrusion and cannot be separated mechanically. This design is offeredin the range of pipe diameters from 90 mm and up. In the range of 25 to 75 mm the pipes have a uniform colour (navy blue,orange, black).

The pipes may also be made in the form of colour-striped application pipes (the stripes are also made of PE 100 RC materials)or black.

Notch TestThe notch test acc. to PN EN ISO 13479 is a pressure testconducted on a section of a pipe that has been notched on thesurface, and then submerged in water at a given temperatureand put under hydrostatic pressure. The notch test allows todetermine the resistance of pipes to the fast propagation ofcracks. The pipe should withstand the hydrostatic pressure givenfor 5 000 hours (RURGAZ RC MULTIsafe® 10 000 h).

Full Notch Creep Test + ACT

The FNCT test is conducted on a section of the pipe or a custom– moulded plate in order to test its resistance to environmentalconditions. The sample is notched and then stretched in anArcopal solution at a specific temperature. The RC material sampleshould withstand these conditions for 3 300 hours withoutexhibiting damage (acc. to ISO 16770) (RURGAZ RC MULTIsafe®

8 760 h).

Point load test (by Dr. Hessel)

Dr. Hessel’s point load test is used to determine a material’sresistance to slow propagation of cracks. A sample of pipe sectionis subjected to external point pressure in a given timeframe andat a specific temperature. The RC sample should withstand theseconditions for 8 760 hours without exhibiting damage (RURGAZRC MULTIsafe® = 10 000 h).

The results of tests conducted on RURGAZ RC MULTIsafe® pipes conducted at the Hessel Ingenieurtechnik GmbH instituteand INiG in Cracow have confirmed their extreme resistance to scratching and point loads that may result during trenchlesspipe-laying or assembly.

RURGAZ RC MULTIsafe® pipes have passed the 10 000 h notch test used for determining slow propagation of cracks acc.to PN-EN 13479, executed in INiG, Cracow, Poland.

The pipes have also passed the slow propagation tests conducted upon long-term stretching resistance tests (FNCT + ACT) acc.to ISO 16770, resisting damage for 8 760 hours.

During point load tests by Dr. Hessel, the pipes withstood 10 000 hours of testing without damage.

RURGAZ RC MULTIsafe® water pipes are supplied with a certificate of conformity to PN EN 12201. The RURGAZ RC MULTIsafe®

water pipes have the same reference documents as classic PE 100 water pressure pipes. The pipes also have the National Instituteof Hygiene certificate no. HK/W/0828/01/2005.

RURGAZ RC MULTIsafe® gas pipes are supplied with a certificate of conformity to PN EN 1555. The RURGAZ RC MULTIsafe®

gas pipes have the same reference documents as classic PE 100 gas pipes.

RURGAZ RC MULTIsafe® rainwater draining pipes are supplied with a certificate of conformity to PN EN 13244.

On territories suffering from mining damage, RURGAZ RC MULTIsafe® pipes may be used in accordance to conditions of theTechnical Opinion of May 24th 2007, issued by the General Mining Institute.

RURGAZ RC MULTIsafe® pipes are laid and assembled just like typical PE100 pipes. Due to their high resistance to point loadsand surface scratching effects, the pipes can be laid in soil without backfill and sand embedding which is usually used as aprotective layer for the pipes. High resistance of RURGAZ RC MULTIsafe® pipes to slow propagation of cracks allows pipe-layingin difficult native soils with backfill and packing of crushed rocks and stones up to 60 mm of grain. Remember that the soilfragments must evenly support the pipeline around its circumference. Soil transport is expensive - application of RC MULTIsafe®

pipes can significantly reduce the costs of supplying the construction site with proper earthwork material and the removal ofexcess soil from the site.

The RC MULTIsafe® water pipes are produced in the diameter range of 25 to 75 mm (in a uniform navy blue colour).Pipes from 90 to 500 mm in diameter are black; about 10% of their external layer is made in a navy blue colour.
