Plays by Area

• The objective of this page is to help identify the plays that will form the Sainted Six while making sure that each hole can be attacked.• Depending on the defensive alignment and/or tag the Lead

can hit the 3/5/7 or 2/4/6 areas.

• The plays listed will be run to either side.

• These are the primary plays that hit the holes of the offensive nomenclature.

• The base assumption is that the offense needs to be able to hit each hole in the offensive formation.• But that hitting the hole with multiple plays is usually not

necessary

• Power plays are characterized by the QB reversing out and handing the ball directly to the back.

• Option plays are characterized by the QB opening toward the play and reading one or more defenders. Options plays start with “1x” to indicate the QB (1 back) is starting with the ball.

Winning Theory

• Beat your opponent physically– Better physical condition– Be aggressive and “out-mean” them– Consistency – 110% every play

• Genuine all-out desire for team victory– Goal – To win them all– Personal sacrifice instead of personal glorification– What one can contribute, not what one can receive– When you win there is enough glory for everyone

• Winning edge– Second and third effort– No penalties, broken signals, fumbles, or interceptions– Sudden change– Know and play zone and field position– Concentration and mental discipline

• Stress kicking game– Type of kick for particular zone– Protection– Coverage and defense– Rush– Returns– Field the ball

• Defense– No long runs– No passes for touchdown– Force mistakes– Score on defense

• Offense– Never give up the ball without a kick– Extras in Danger zone– Score in 4-down zone– Discipline– Intelligent recklessness– It takes 11 to move the ball
