Beehive A’s - The Model A Ford Club of Northern Utah
President’s Message: In my past experience filling a schedule for
an organization such as ours has required a little
"digging". For us it's more a matter of choosing
from a wealth of great options. June is going to
be a plenty busy month. Watch the "Rumbleseat
Review" and our web site carefully and take
advantage of what's being offered to us. There
are a lot of cliches that apply like: "Get it while
the getting is good." I've been making a lot of
phone calls and other inquiries and I've come to
the conclusion that people don't easily lose “A” tour at driving of the golden spike
interest in their Model "A"s. It's poor health that separates us from them.
Our meeting at Mike Bachman's shop and tour to Promontory were a blast. That's not just
the hot dogs talking! I'm excited to check out Ron Horton's place this month. Adding some
diversity to our meeting locations is apparently a great plan. We just need to do everything
we can to keep everyone informed where to go so no one gets left out.
Well no point in me flapping my yap and repeating the whole newsletter. Keep in mind
that our meeting on the 9th is LAST CALL for Shirt orders. Also note that Dave Spinden's
Huntsville Engine Show Tour and RC Willey's car show both occur BEFORE our June
Meeting. Keep 'em rolling and be safe, Cliff

Out and About: Thanks to Mike Bachman for hosting us, the May meeting, at his place
of business and auto paraphernalia shop. John Hall provided the refreshments. Thanks John.
Marvin Thurn, a retired electrician from HAFB, has returned from Europe. He gave the
meet-a-member presentation. Marv has a P/U and coupe under reconstruction. Twenty-two
club polo shirts were sold at $25.00 each. We have met the minimum number to pay for set
up costs and perhaps make a buck or two for the club on next sales. More shirts are now on
order. Your Prez Cliff Betten won the 50/50 raffle winner’s split. Clay Pitkin’s father
passed away recently. Our condolences go out to him and his family. An estate sale is
planned of his autos and tools. Clay will keep us briefed on the details of the upcoming sale.
Jim Torghele was the only one to drive an “A” to May’s meeting.
The Golden Spike Monument tour
Seven A’s, one Shay-A-Essex mongrel, and
one modern vehicle--the contents of which were
all Beehive A club citizens met at the usual spot
in Farr West on Saturday May 10 to proceed out
to the annual driving of the Golden Spike at
Promontory Summit. Prez Cliff Betten assumed
the reigns as wagonmaster. Upon our arrival, the l. Lady Betten at railroad celebration
park personnel gave us preferential parking, thanks to them. The highlight of the tour was our
one and only Madame Natalie Betten, Cliff’s mom, who arrived in 1860's period dress plus
the umbrella. She soon became the center of attention and answered many questions of the
crowd. Madame Betten arranged it that she was in the ceremonial program presentation–right
behind the main speakers when the replica locomotives faced each other. For a party crasher
Natalie did it classy and right. For a lunch treat Mike Bachman treated us with his “Mighty
Mikes Brats”. Those who attended were the Johnson’s–Dan and Chris, the Painter’s–Keith
and Marie, the Bachman’s–Mike and Debbie, the Spinden’s–Dave and Jo, the Torghele’s–Jim
and Charlotte, the Betten’s–Cliff and mom Natalie, the Wheelwrights–Ray and Mary, Rich
Kotter, and Brownie Petersen. The day was perfect for a tour, a jacket was required, but rain
was never a threat.
