This Month’s Cover Car The Studebaker on this month’s cover is the 1960 Lark Gasser owned by
Wyoming Chapter member Bruce McCampbell. The Lark is powered by a
Small Block Chevy with a Dual Quad Tunnel Ram Induction. The
Straight Axle Front End gives it the correct nostalgic drag racing look.
Bruce will have the Lark on display in Casper at the zone meet.

The Wyoming Chapter needs as many members as possible to attend the chapter
meeting in Casper on March 19th. The meeting will be held at the home of Bruce Berst,
3150 E 5th. This meeting will hold the elections of officers for 2016. We will also be going
over all the details of the Zone Meet. More information on the meeting in the Wyoming
Chapter News here in the newsletter.
We lost two very active members in February. Bill Davis of the Conestoga Chapter and
Doreen Chase of the Pikes Peak Chapter. Both will be greatly missed. Our thoughts and
prayers are with their families.

Wyoming Chapter News
The 1st meeting of the year of the Wyoming Chapter will be held Saturday March 19th at the home of
Bruce Berst, 3150 East 5th Street Casper. This is a very important meeting as it will be for the elections
of officers for the coming year. There are also many items to be finalized as to the Zone meet, and as-
signments made. Much of the work on the Zone Meet is finalized but members help is needed on these
final pieces. This meeting will be a pot-luck. Bruce and Tammy will provide the main course with mem-
bers of the 1st half of the alphabet (A thru M) bringing a side dish. Members in the last half of the al-
phabet are asked to bring a dessert. This will be our CHRISTMAS meeting. Members are asked to bring a
gift of no more than $15.00. Men bring a gift for a man and women a gift for a lady. If members are una-
ble to attend please contact a member of the nominations committee at this e-mail address for an ab-
sentee ballot. Annette Black [email protected]. Please have all absentee ballots to Jim Harkins prior
to the meeting. Jim’s e-mail is [email protected]
If members plan on building a hood ornament racer for the zone meet. The weight and size measure-
ments are the same as those for a valve cover racer. They are simply a hood ornament on wheels. If you
have questions or concerns about the meeting or election contact Connie or Bruce.

CONESTOGA CHAPTER PRESIDENT’S REPORT
First, let me offer my sincere condolences to Bill Davis’s family. Though Jay and I are new to the Club, I know he was an active, long-term and very beloved member of many arms of the Studebaker Drivers Club. He will be missed by all.
We had some great weather Saturday, February 21st when 27 members and guests were treated to a
great tour and visit at the Broomfield Veterans Museum. The Veterans who run the museum even
brought a WWII Studebaker built Army Weasel just for our group. Everyone enjoyed the museum,
and we were all excited to see the Weasel all fired up! Included with the group were the following
members and vehicles: Rex Osborn & Christof Kheim with their 1950 Studebaker 2R5 pickup; Va-
lerie and Jerry Miller-Hackman with their 1962 Gran Turismo Hawk; Bob Bax with his 1964 Dayto-
na Convertible; Larry Ramsdell with his 1987 Avanti; Phil & Marilyn Scott with their 2002 Avanti;
Carey Dietz with his 1958 Packard Hawk; Joe & Sheila Rink with their 1963 Avanti; and guest Judy
Richards with her 1966 Mustang Convertible.
On Sunday, March 20th you won’t want to miss our trip to the Denver Museum of Miniatures, Dolls
and Toys. Everyone will enjoy this exceptional museum. In addition to the many unique exhibits at
the Museum, the Museum currently features a special Star Wars Toys Exhibit. The Mile High Ode to
Star Wars exhibit features two floors of unique Star Wars toys (please see the article elsewhere in
this newsletter for more details). Since parking at the Museum of Miniatures is limited, we plan to
meet for coffee and donuts at the Forney Museum at 11:45, then caravan to the Museum of Minia-
tures, where we will begin our visit at 1:00 pm. Cost to visit the Museum will be $4 for seniors; $5
for adults. We plan depart the Museum at 2:00 pm for a late lunch after our tour at the Islamorada
Fish House at the Bass Pro Shop.
On April 16th we plan to visit the Historic Byers-Evans House. Built in 1883, this historic home has
been beautifully restored to the period between 1912 and 1924. Polished wood finishes, brightly
patterned wallpapers, ornate mantles, and period draperies form a backdrop for a rich variety of
Evans family furnishings.
Spring and summer are coming and that means great weather and more chances to drive our Stu-
debakers in the great outdoors! On May 22nd, we plan our annual Chapter Birthday Brunch at the
always popular (and always delicious) Mt. Vernon Country Club. June 25th will take us to the Bee
Family Centennial Farm in Ft. Collins where will enjoying all the preserved history of this historic
family farm, preserved and still run by the Bee Family. We will enjoy a day of history and fun, in-
cluding a chance to attend a vintage baseball game.
Be sure to plan to attend the North Central Zone Meet in Casper July 14-17th. Don’t forget to make your hotel reser-
vations! Jay and I are planning to attend, and we hope to see you there!
We hope to see you at some or all of these events! For more information on any of our Chapter events, please con-
tact Jay or Deborah Hokanson at 303-935-8270, or [email protected].

We plan to spend about an hour at the Museum, departing at 2:00 pm to go to the Islamorada Fish
House at the Bass Pro Shop for an afternoon late lunch.
We have obtained permission to park in a limited off-street parking lot at a privately owned business
near the museum, so we will caravan from the Forney. Directions and information for this lot and to
the Islamorada Fish House will be distributed to participants when we meet at the Forney.
The first floor of the Museum is fully accessible. A ramp at the side of the house allows wheel chairs
and stroller entrance. The second floor is not handicap accessible. Unfortunately, the Museum
does not have an elevator.

Pikes Peak Chapter
The February meeting of the chapter at the Garden of the Gods Trading Post was cancelled when one
of our members collapsed just as the meeting was to begin. CPR was performed by the events coordi-
nator (who is also in nurses training) and a young man who had just retired from the Air Force and CPR
certified. This was kept up until the medics arrived from Manitou Springs. Unfortunately, Doreen
Chase passed away in a nearby hospital later in the day.
Doreen had just taken over as secretary for the chapter. She was a multifaceted lady. A loving wife and
mother. She will be missed by all of us in the club. At the request of her family, members of the club
drove their Studebakers to her memorial.
The next meeting will be on March 26th at the American Legion #5 (Platte Canyon/Cascade) at noon.
Pete Tetley will host. This is the annual Chili Cook-Off, so heat up those crock pots, get out the recipes
and stir up a pot of winning chili. Trophies for the winners. It will also be a pot-luck, so if not making
chili, bring along a side dish. At the meeting we need to plan two more meetings and nominations for
Secretary.

Western Wheels Chapter
Valentine Day is for lovers and for Western Wheels SDC members it is the annual Soup Supper pre-
pared by the men. This year we met at the Gering library on February 13th. A good variety of soups
was served. This included Chicken & Noodles Chili, Potato, Broccoli-Cheese, Ham & Beans. There was
no contest and all received high marks. Members present were Dallas & Lucille Whiting; Perry, Jackie
and Corina Meyers; Harry, Bonita and Charlene Case, Earl and Becky Johnson, Stu Tritt, Mary Miller
and hostess Wanda Mowry with Mary’s help. We learned that Don Steinwart was absent due to a fall
from a ladder. He was home recovering from bruises and soreness but no broken bones.
President Mary held a short meeting informing everyone of future events. The Route 385 Cruisers-
Thunder on the Prairie Rod Run in Alliance, NE is June 3-5. This is the same weekend as the annual
Sugar Valley Rally. Stu Triit is Chairman of the SVR and will need all the volunteers he can get. Anyone
wanting to get involved in this big annual event should give Stu a call and let him know your wishes.
The members divided into two groups to play their favorite 31 card game. Dallas won one prize of Al-
mond bar candy and Bonita won some sweetheart candy. It was a beautiful evening and we didn’t
want to drive home in the snow.
