The Institute – Professional Organization
• The Institute meets the requirements of the Private Health Insurance Accreditation Rule following a successful completion of an independent audit.
• It has earned the status of “Professional Organization” according to the Private Health Insurance Act 2007.
• The Institute now enjoys the private health funds accreditation and offers its eligible members provider recognition with 14 health funds as at 1 July 09.

The Institute – Health Funds
• All “health care providers” in Australia must be members of professional organizations to gain the health fund provider recognition.
• Individual practitioners are no longer allowed to apply for and receive the “provider status” from health funds.

The Institute – Eligible Members
• The “health care providers” for Kinesiology are deemed to be members with Professional Membership level and above with The Institute.
• More and more health funds are now requesting that the minimum qualification to remain a provider is HLT51507 Diploma in Kinesiology.

courses already accredited with AKA will be accepted FREE of charge until 31st of
December 2009.

This applies to those courses accredited with The Institute requiring updates –every 4 years from 1st January 2010. Normal charges and processes will apply to new and Affiliate/Adjunct courses submitted from 1st January
2010.
To take advantage of this, RTOs must complete and submit the A.I.K. RTO Accreditation Form with supporting
course documents.

There are over 100 different accredited Kinesiology courses, over 50 different streams and numerous number of instructors and practitioner/instructors – unique to Kinesiology
RTOs within the timeframe of each course -Certificate IV & Diploma, can deliver only certain amount of Kinesiology courses
Only a handful of instructors could be affiliated with the RTOs

Minimum requirement for Instructors of any modality registered with The Institute is

Dual roles of Accredited Courses

Maintain the recognition of training hours already accredited with respect to the delivery of HLT42807 & HLT51507 by RTOs, ie. choose courses accredited with The Institute to deliver the Specialization Units of the Certificate IV & Diploma in Kinesiology
All accredited courses be given CPE points for the purpose of the health fund requirements, and they are called, “CPE Courses”

CPE Definition & Requirement
CPE has become a necessary part of a practitioner’s life.The purpose of CPE is to ensure Professional Practitioners
regularly update their clinical skills and professional knowledge
This is also mandatory for Professional Members and for private health insurance provider recognition
It is a commitment to updating and furthering one’s education

Continuing Professional Education
CPEAll CPE Courses will be listed on The Institute’s website for easy access by members to choose from. This will also be used for verification purpose for the CPE points needed for the compliance requirements of the provider recognition with health funds with whom The Institute has the accreditation
Non-compliant members will be deleted from the monthly database submission of eligible members to the health funds.• Conditions will apply for re-registration

Continuing Professional Education
• CPE courses only need Certificate of Attendance for the purpose of satisfying The Institute’s CPE requirements.
• Yearly 20 CPE points must include a minimum of 2 points and a maximum of 10 points per annum derived from undertaking CPE courses.
• Undertaking undergraduate or postgraduate courses in any membership period will allow a maximum CPE points of 10.
