Course Objective
This unit provides the participant with the skills and knowledge required to handle dangerous
goods and hazardous substances, including identifying requirements for working with
dangerous goods and/or hazardous substances, confirming site incident procedures and
selecting handling techniques.
Course Outcome
On successful completion of this course students will be issued with:
Statement of Attainment
ATC issued Competency Card
Course Content
WHS Act & Regulations, Codes of Practice and Australian Standards
Identify requirements for working with dangerous goods and/or hazardous substances
Confirm site incident procedures
Select handling techniques
Safety Data Sheets
Course Prerequisites
Ability to read, write, speak and understand basic English
Learners must be at least 16 years of age to participate

Learners must provide relevant PPE to
participate in the course safely:
Wear safety footwear (i.e. fully enclosed steel cap footwear)
Long sleeve shirt (high visibility if available)
Long pants.
Learners Must Have Photo ID. (I.e. Australian Drivers
License, Passport or Proof of Age Card).
Mandatory for certification courses. ID must
contain photo, signature and date of birth.
Students must read learning materials prior
to attending.
