GRANT OF AUTONOMY
RSET has been granted autonomous status by UGC for a period of 10 years from the academic year 2020-2021 onwards. This has been officially approved by the APJ Abdul Kalam
Technological University, Trivandrum. The autonomous status would enable RSET to enhance all aspects of its academic activities, and offer programmes in line with contemporary industrial and research requirements.
The Autonomy Inspection Team had visited the institution on January 6 & 7, 2020. The team comprised Prof. Keshava Prasad Singh, Emeritus Professor, IIT BHU (Chairperson); Prof. Suresh
Kumar Garg, Pro Vice Chancellor, Delhi Technological University; Mr Jaisukhlal N., Additional Secretary, Department of Higher Education, GoK; Prof. S. Anil Lal, DME, CET; and Dr Salil S., Education Officer, UGC, Bangalore.
B.TECH IN ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE & DATA SCIENCE
RSET has started its eighth undergraduate programme in engineering, B.Tech in Artificial Intelligence & Data Science from the academic year 2020-2021 onwards. A branch which offers
diverse opportunities, this programme is being offered jointly by the Department of Information Technology and Department of Mathematics. The number of seats for the programme is 60.
NIRF 2020
RSET has been listed in the National Institutional Ranking Framework 2020 (NIRF), published by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India in June 2020. The
institution is ranked in the 251-300 range. It has the rare distinction of being the only private self-financing engineering college from Kerala to be ranked by NIRF.

Rev. Fr Benny Nalkkara CMI took charge as the new Manager of RSET after he assumed the office of
Provincial, CMI Sacred Heart Province, in August 2020.
Rev. Dr Jose Kuriedath CMI took charge as the Director of RSET from October 1, 2020. Former Principal and
Professor of Sociology of Sacred Heart College, Thevara, Rev. Dr Jose Kuriedath was serving as the Provincial Superior of the Sacred Heart Province for the last three years.
Rev. Dr Joel George Pullolil CMI has taken on the responsibility of the Assistant Director.
Rev. Dr Jaison Paul Mulerickal CMI has assumed the office of the Vice Principal on December 1, 2020.
Former Director, Rev. Dr Mathew Vattathara CMI has assumed the mantle of Director, Rajagiri College of
Management and Applied Sciences (RCOMAS), our sister institution.
Rev. Fr Ajeesh Puthussery CMI, faculty member of the Department of Mathematics, RSET, has been
appointed as the Principal of RCOMAS.

A separate Department of Mathematics (DMA) has been established in July 2020. Formerly, the discipline of Mathematics was a part of the Department of Basic Sciences & Humanities. The newly established department is led by Dr Ramkumar P.B. (Head
of the Department), while Mr Binu R. serves as the Assistant Head of the Department.
DMA consists of 12 faculty members. Apart from offering PhD in Mathematics, the department is also jointly offering the B.Tech programme in Artificial Intelligence & Data Science with the Department of Information Technology. The Centre for
Topology and Applications had already been established under the aegis of the discipline.
An international conference on Number Theory and Discrete Mathematics, organized by the Ramanujan Mathematical Society was hosted at RSET from December 11 to 14, 2020. The conference was organized to mark the hundredth year of the passing away of the legendary mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan.
Prof. Bruce C. Berndt, University of Illinois inaugurated the programme on December 10, 2020. Rev. Dr Jose Kuriedath CMI presided over the inaugural function. Prof. R. Balasubramanian, Institute of Mathematical Sciences, Chennai, addressed the gathering during the inaugural function, while Prof. Ambat Vijayakumar, Chair IAPC, ICNTDM, and Vice President of RMS elaborated on the conference. Felicitations were offered by Prof. S. Ponnusamy, President RMS, Prof. R. Balakrishnan, Bharathidasan University, and Prof. Poulose Jacob, Dean Research, RSET. Dr P.S. Sreejith, Principal, welcomed the gathering and Dr Vinod Kumar P.B., Convenor, ICNTDM proposed the vote of thanks.
As a part of ICNTDM, a public lecture on Ramanujan, Number Theory and the Pandemic was delivered by Prof. M. Ram Murty FRSC, Queen’s University, Canada on December 11, 2020. ICNTDM featured renowned mathematicians from across the globe joining on the online platform to share their insights on the conference themes.

Deeksharambham 2020, course initiation ceremony of the 20th batch of B.Tech and 13th batch of M.Tech students was held on November 23, 2020. Due to the restrictions imposed by the pandemic, the programme was conducted in the online mode, with only a select few joining from the institution.
Rev. Fr Benny Nalkkara CMI, Provincial Superior and Manager, in his presidential address urged the students to develop ABC, namely accountability to oneself, others and to God; belongingness, that is owning up their mission in life; and connectivity, which is social sensitivity. Director, Rev. Dr Jose Kuriedath CMI encouraged
the students to sharpen their creative intelligence, develop a healthy network with teachers and peers, use freedom of college life with maturity and discernment, and balance their emotionality.
The Chief Guest of the day, Dr Vinay Kumar Dadhwal, Director, IIST, Trivandrum, pointed out how the capacity and capability of the human society has developed through science and technology. He directed the students to understand the needs of society and use education to respond appropriately to the challenges of the times. Dr Dadhwal encouraged the students to become ambassadors of transformational social change.
Principal, Dr P. S. Sreejith in his address provided an overview of the institution and pointed out to the students both the opportunities and expectations which lie ahead.
Deeksharambham 2020 was followed by a week-long Student Induction Programme which familiarized the students with the institution, their programme of study, departments, activities and mentors, and also provided them with valuable insights from professionals and academicians drawn from diverse fields.

The Internal Quality Assurance Cell of RSET conducted a three-day Faculty Orientation Programme for the
benefit of faculty members who joined the institution since 2018, from September 14 to 16, 2020.
Rev. Fr Benny Nalkkara CMI, Provincial and Manager, inaugurated the programme. He asked the faculty
members to develop the Rajagiri Quotient in the students, which he elaborated is the essence of the CMI educational policy and the hallmark of CMI education. He also invited them to be contributors and leaders at the institution, rather than participants, observers or detractors.
Speaking on the occasion, Director, Rev. Dr Mathew Vattathara CMI reminded the faculty members about the
importance of pedagogical competence, professionalism
and personal attributes in the success of teachers. Dr P.S. Sreejith, Principal, welcomed the gathering; Dr Poulose Jacob, Dean, Research, offered felicitations and Ms Liza Annie Joseph, Assistant Coordinator, IQAC, proposed the vote of thanks.
The three day programme featured sessions by internal resource persons such as Rev. Dr Joel George CMI, Dr
Poulose Jacob, Dr Vinod Kumar P.B., Dr Manoj Tharian, Dr Silvy Mathew, and Mr Binu A.; and external resource persons such as Rev Dr Jose Cletus Plackal CMI and Prof. P.R. Madhava Panicker. Ms Tressa Kurian, DCE and Ms Caroline Ann Sam, DEE were the coordinators of the programme.

COVID RELATED ACTIVITIES
While COVID19 has crippled our lives in various ways, students
at RSET put on their creative caps to design and develop many potential solutions to the challenges faced in the health care sector and other walks of life in the face of the pandemic.
Third year Applied Electronics & Instrumentation Engineering
students Akhil Jayaprakash, Antony Thomas, Alex George, Rockey Faby and Ashwin Sankar developed a luggage sanitizer, Hygieia – an automatic device which can find use in shopping malls, airports, hospitals and offices. The student team was guided by Dr Hari C.V., Mr Krishnakumar K.P., and Ms Shanmughapriya M.
Final year students of Applied Electronics & Instrumentation
Engineering, Ephron Martin, Teresa Benny, Akhil Antony and Joseph Antony developed an automated Unniyappam machine, which can be used for large scale manufacturing of the traditional favourite by bakeries and restaurants. The machine saves
time, and minimizes the requirement of human intervention in preparing the batter, pouring it into the mould and frying the sweet treats. This student team was guided by Ms Priya S. and Dr Hari C.V.
Another team from the same department and year, Gayathri N.
Shenoy, Chithu Rajan, Shiby Varghese and Vignesh M.V., under the guidance of Ms Shanmughapriya M. developed a sanitizing robot Steriloid, which can disinfect rooms both manually and automatically. Ultrasonic sensors guide the robot in the automatic mode, while a mobile application using Bluetooth controls the robot in the manual mode.
Yet another team of students from Applied Electronics &
Instrumentation, Abin Martin, Ashwin Abraham, Joseph Mathew, Fazna Zainab and Shilpa Gopakumar developed A.I.R.S. – Automated Inventory Storage and Retrieval System, which can be used for storage and retrieval of medicines in
hospitals, pharmacies and medical shops. A project with functionalities to suit both the hospital and the pharmacy/medical shop setting, it helps to minimize human contact in these vulnerable places. This project was guided by Dr Abraham Thomas, Mr Vimal Kumar, Dr Hari C.V., Ms Liza Annie Joseph, Mr Ravi Balakrishnan, Mr Damien and Mr Paulose K.P. This system was developed in collaboration with Consyst Technology and Crescent Industries.
Divins Mathew, final year student of Computer Science & Engineering
developed AutoTemp, a completely automated temperature reading and logging platform. The device which can be mounted anywhere, utilizes ultrasonic sensors for detecting human presence and reading the temperature, which is then stored in an online database. If the temperature is above normal, a photo of the person is also captured and uploaded. This project was developed under the guidance of Dr Sminu Izudheen.

Final year Computer Science & Engineering students, Aarsha Joji,
Alaka V. Louis, Amala Sebastian and Anusree under the guidance of Ms Sangeetha Jamal, developed a method to detect COVID19 from Chest X-Ray images, using DenseNet binary class classification model. The prototype was developed using Machine Learning.
Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering first
year student Jerin Peter developed an Automatic Robo Soap Dispenser. This cost effective sanitizer was made using 3D printed parts, a metal gear servo motor, an Arduino Uno, ultrasonic sensor and jumper wires.

S. Nair and Ashik Faizal developed a Multi-Utility Unmanned Disinfection Robot – Rakshak 20, under the guidance of Mr Vishnu Sankar and Dr John M. George. Equipped with a 16 litre storage tank, surveillance camera, all terrain tracked wheel system, a small storage space for medicines and equipment, and a sprayer system, Rakshak ’20 can be effectively used for disinfection and sanitation purposes within a range of 1 km.
DME has also set up Automatic and Pedal operated sanitizer dispensers
in the campus. The sanitizer is made by the faculty of Chemistry.
Electrical & Electronics Engineering department has initiated a
collaboration with Simelabs, to develop
emergency care ventilators. DEI and DME have also joined the development team. The ventilator designs are the result of long-distance collaboration by Kochi-based Sinergia Media Labs, with expertise in IoT, mobile and cloud software, Chennai-based Ionic3DP, which is into 3D printing and robotics and the artificial intelligence startup Aruvii, based in Singapore. Currently, two cost-effective ventilator designs- INDVENTR-100 and INDVENTR-200 protypes are ready to enter the validation and testing phase. Students Suvij K. S. and Safwan Ali Naushad of DEE are actively involved in the complete development of the hardware and software required.
STEAG Centre for Smart City Technologies was inaugurated by His Excellency Mr. Walter J. Lindner, German Ambassador to India in the presence of Dr. Ralf Schiele, CEO and MD of Steag Energy Services GmbH on January 24, 2020. This center
is housed in the K.E. Block Extension.
