UPDATE ON THE OVERALL PROJECT
Réseau électrique métropolitain
IMPROVEMENTS MADE – NOVEMBER 2016
> Three new downtown Montréal stations announced to improve the REM’s integration
NEW STATIONS
3
Réseau électrique métropolitain
IMPROVEMENTS MADE – MARCH 2017
4
> Maximum capacity observed for the central section: 21,000 passengers between 6:30 a.m. and 9:30 a.m.
> Minimum capacity of the REM: 43,000 passengersbetween 6:30 a.m. and 9:30 a.m.
+22,200 passengers at peak times
CONDITIONS OF THE ENVIRONMENTAL DECREE
Réseau électrique métropolitain
WHAT CONDITIONS NEED TO BE MET?
6
Condition 6: Monitor the soundscape once the REM is in operationObligation:> Carry out sound surveys during the summer, at year 1, 5 and 10 of the REM’s operation.
Objective:> Validate evaluations that have been carried out by modelling > Implement mitigation measures when significant impacts are measured for noise sensitive
receptors based on the approach used by the Ministère des Transports, de la Mobilitédurable et de l’Électrification des transports to assess noise impact
Réseau électrique métropolitain7
Condition 16: Dissemination of monitoring and control programs
CDPQ Infra will release an annual report on its monitoring and control activities provided for in the decree by publishing it on its website.
WHAT CONDITIONS NEED TO BE MET?
SOUNDSCAPE STUDY RESULTS
Réseau électrique métropolitain
WHAT METHODOLOGY IS USED?
9
Complies with:> the MTMDET’s specifications on the noise impact
studies> the MDDELCC’s expectations
Field measurements
Reference modelCurrent soundscape
calibration (2016)REM predictions
(2021–2031)Impact
analysis
Réseau électrique métropolitain
> Survey period: July to September 2016 > Installation: ≈ 2.5 m from the ground> Measurement period: at least 48 hours> Recording: every second> Instrument calibration prior to each measurement period
10
HOW ARE FIELD MEASUREMENTS TAKEN?
Réseau électrique métropolitain
Model adjusted to include:>Removal of noise made by the Deux-Montagnes commuter train>Noise made by the REM, similar to that of the Canada Line in Vancouver>Noise from stationary sources: electric stations, ventilation in the stations >Results of modelling at 1.5 and 5.0 m high, and at every 3 m for multi-
storey buildings>Expected frequency of the REM 2031 FREQUENCY 2031
Peak times 2 min
Off-peak times 6 min
HOW IS NOISE MADE BY THE REM MODELLED?
11
Réseau électrique métropolitain
HOW ARE IMPACTS ANALYZED?
Impact analysis:>Compilation of the
increase of the Leq,24h along the REM route
>Comparison with the MTMDET’s grid

WHAT HAPPENS ONCE THE CONTRACT IS AWARDED?
The contractor must conduct modelling according to its detailed engineering and provide for mitigation measures when there are significant impacts to noise sensitive receptors
Réseau électrique métropolitain
WHAT ARE THE MAIN CONCLUSIONS?
The noise impact on the Town of Mont-Royal will be low:> Although trains on the Deux-Montagnes branch will run more frequently,
they will be lighter and shorter> Modelling was performed with assumptions that are conservative> The contractor will have to perform a noise modelling study, taken into
account its detailed engineering> Sensitive areas experiencing significant noise impact will benefit from
noise mitigation> Soundscape monitoring will have to be performed during operation

NEXT STEPS
Réseau électrique métropolitain
NEXT STEPS
18
> Awarding of contracts (fall 2017)
> Beginning of the design & construction (fall 2017)
> Operation of first trains (end of 2020)
