SUMMARY

In January 1998, a combined magnetic and VLF-EM survey was carried out on behalf of //S-^S7o eA^xvojEvcon the OSSIAN project, located in Ossian township, north-eastern Ontario.

The survey detected inside a flat magnetic relief a conductive zone with direct magnetic association which could possibly be related with a mineralized conductive structure.

Recommendations for further work consist of induced polarization profiles followed by diamond drilling to test the best targets.

1. INTRODUCTION

At the request of //A.55jo atfWArof*:of Toronto, VAL D'OR SAGAX INC. has performed, in January 1998, a combined magnetic and very low frequency electromagnetic survey over the OSSIAN project, located in Ossian township, province of Ontario.

The purpose of the present survey was to, locate lithological and structural features favourable to gold or base metal mineralization.

2. THE OSSIAN PROJECT

2.1. Location and access

The property is located about 30 km north-east of Kirkland Lake and 15 km north-east of Virginiatown, in the Ossian township near the Quebec boundary, province of Ontario (NTS 32 D/4) (figure 1). It is accessible from Virginiatown (road 66) to the north via a road leading to the lac Labyrinthe and traverses the south-west corner of the grid.

2.2. Description

The mineral permits have been registered with the MINISTRY OF NORTHERN DEVELOPMENT AND MINES OF ONTARIO. The location of the mineral permits and the survey grid are presented on figure 2.

3. TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS OF THE SURVEYS

The magnetic and VLF-EM surveys were performed between January 15 to 17, 1998 by Mr. Dufour and Mr. Guimond, technicians. The surveys cover 11.6 line-kilometres along a grid of north-south picketed lines. Readings were taken every 12.5 metres along the lines spaced every 100 metres. Two EDA Omni-Plus systems were used to take both magnetic and VLF-EM readings.

The magnetic survey readings were measured with nuclear precession sensors providing an accuracy of l nanoTesla (nT). Data were corrected for the diurnal variation of the magnetic field. The corrections were evaluated from the records of a second magnetometer used as an automatic base station. The base station measured the intensity of the magnetic field every 20 seconds at a fixed location.

The VLF-EM data were also recorded by an Omni-Plus system which uses the electromagnetic field emitted by VLF radio stations. The station NAA (Cutler, Maine) operating at 24.0 kHz was selected for the survey. The vertical in-phase and the quadrature components of the secondary field were measured and presented as profiles.

4. DISCUSSION OF THE RESULTS

4.1 Magnetic survey

The area covered by the present survey shows rather flat magnetic relief where total field intensities vary gradually from east to west between 57 100 and 57 500 nanoTeslas. This magnetic relief could be divided in two principal magnetic domains. The first one, MD-1, occupies the eastern half of the survey and present a lower background and a rather homogeneous relief which could possibly be the signature of a small felsic intrusive.

The second domain, MD-2, presents a higher background level and is traversed by a few apparently E-W oriented axes of magnetic high of about 25 to 50 nT. The N.NW-S.SE oriented zone of magnetic high located at the western limit of the survey is likely due to a diabase dyke.

4.2 Electromagnetic VLF survey

No definite narrow bedrock conductor was detected by the survey. However, a few rather wide conductive zones characterized by long wavelength responses were outlined; these large responses are usually caused by near-surface resistivity contrasts in the ground, such as topographical variations of the bedrock under conductive overburden which, however, are sometimes related with important structural features (faults, shear zones). The best responses were outlined south of base line O, between stations O and 200S, where they seem to constitute an E-W oriented narrower conductive zone with a direct magnetic association of about 20 to 50 nT. The sharp "cross-overs" obtained inside this zone on lines 600W and 500W near BL-0 seem to be associated with a small cliff, but could be due also to a small near-surface conductor.

5. CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATIONS

The geophysical surveys carried out on the OSSIAN project outlined inside a flat magnetic relief a conductive zone with direct magnetic association which could possibly be related with a mineralized conductive structure.

It is recommended to execute on the property a few induced polarization/resistivity profiles in order to better evaluate the conductive zones outlined by the present survey and, also, to try to detect the possible presence of gold-bearing disseminated mineralization.

Recommendations for further work should also include diamond drilling to test the best IP responses.

Respectfully submitted,
