RESEARCH PROJECT PROPOSALS

Cover Page - Notes

This template is for use by applicants invited to Stage 2 of the assessment process. Applicants should read all instructions carefully. All sections of the template must becompleted for a Research Project Proposal (Project) to be compliant.

1) Applicants must provide one Project for each of their proposed Research Programs.

Each Project should be described in sufficient detail so that it can be assessed on itsscientific merit and feasibility.

2) The Projects will be peer reviewed by relevant experts and feedback will be provided

prior to interview to enable applicants to address any questions or issues raised.

3) Include a one page Curriculum Vitae for the key researchers (a maximum of six) for

each Project using the template provided at Attachment A. CVs for all key

researchers involved in the Project must be included. Note that the CV template to be

used for Projects differs from the application CV template.

4) Each completed Project must:

• Be received by the Department by 5:00pm (Australian Eastern Daylight Time), 21October 2009;

• Be submitted to the Department by email to [email protected]

(including your CRC Application Name and Number in the subject line);

• Adhere to specified page limits and font size and type used in this template; and

• Be submitted as one document (including all CVs) in .pdf format (example: if you have three Research Project Proposals you would submit three documents,

each containing the completed Project and relevant CVs for that Project).

5) Before submitting your Projects ensure all 'drafting notes' (in italics) are deleted from

the document, including this cover page.

6) In the Header of the document, enter the CRC Name and Number (provided in the

application) and the relevant Research Program number for this research project.

NOTE: You must be satisfied as to the correctness and sufficiency of your Projects as youare unable to edit or amend them once submitted. At the sole discretion of theCommonwealth, any Projects that do no meet the above requirements (including being received by the due date and time) may be deemed non-compliant and not considered inthe assessment of the CRC application.

Research Proposal (Sections 6, 7 and 8 together must not exceed five A4 pages)

6. Objectives and BackgroundThis section requires you to identify the research area and objectives of the Project

as well as the key research question(s) being asked and/ or potential challenges tobe addressed. Include information about recent international progress in the field of research and its application in relevant areas. Refer only to publications that arewidely available.

7. Research PlanOutline the research plan in detail, including as appropriate, a description of theexperimental design, techniques and methods to be used. Demonstrate that theseare adequately developed, well integrated, feasible and appropriate to the aims of the Project.

8. Relevance to proposed CRC's Research ProgramDescribe the relevance of this Project to both the Research Program in which it sitsand the overall objective of the proposed CRC.

9. Role of PersonnelSummarise the role, responsibilities and time contributions of each named researcher from all Participants, not just the research providers. Indicate whether

they are cash funded by the CRC or form part of the staff in-kind contributions of aParticipant. Also include details of the roles of the postgraduate students and other unidentified researchers to be recruited to the Project.

10. OutputsClearly identify the expected outputs of the Project and the potential significance of the research. Include here any education and training activities that will be

undertaken. Address the relationship between the Project and the ResearchProgram's other activities and how this Project will contribute to the Program'sOutputs, Usage and Impact.
