The Roundtable on Sustainable Biomaterials is seeking an experienced Project Manager in Ethiopia to work with a remote team supporting the implementation of RSB activities in the country as part of the “Developing sustainable aviation biofuels in Sub-Saharan Africa” project in collaboration with WWF South Africa, and supported by Boeing Global Engagement. The project aims to transform the country’s commodity and alternative fuel sectors through sustainable practices and to create an enabling environment for the development of sustainable alternative aviation fuels through research, policy and private sector engagement.

Your Role

RSB’s new Project Manager will join a global team of highly motivated individuals to help guide the success of a high-profile project in Ethiopia. RSB will provide all the necessary technical input for business development discussions, project management and implementation of activities. The Project Manager is supported by other team members and reports to the RSB Africa Representative based in South Africa.

Specific duties include: 1. Develop and maintain strategic relationships with stakeholders such as private

sector, government, universities, researchers, UN organisations and NGOs. 2. Manage the development of the alternative aviation fuel roadmap for Ethiopia and

ensure the prominent role of RSB within this consortium. 3. Organise stakeholder meetings and events. 4. Manage the outsourcing and delivery of specialised studies such as feedstock and

impact assessments. 5. Engage local industry leaders such as government actors, airlines and investors to

develop sustainable alternative aviation fuel supply chains. 6. Investigate additional business development opportunities in the biomaterial sectors

in Ethiopia and neighbouring countries, and promote RSB products such as membership, advisory services and certification

7. Represent the RSB at industry events and conferences

About You

Required - Education, Experience and Qualifications ● 5+ years of relevant work experience ● Track record in delivery in project management, implementation of projects, and

management of stakeholders ● Excellent project management skills including basic financial management and

budgeting, time management and activity monitoring and reporting ● Proven knowledge in sustainability challenges in biomass production (agriculture,

forestry, wastes) and processing (biofuels, bioenergy, biomaterials) ● Proven understanding of the local bioenergy sector ● Master’s degree, or equivalent, in a related field (Bachelor’s degree will be

considered if adequate experience in the aviation or biofuel sectors) ● Fluency in English and Amharic ● Based in Addis Ababa, or willing to relocate

● Open-mindedness. ● Self-starter who takes initiative. ● Confidence to work independently with basic guidance and supervision. ● Ability to work under pressure. ● Ability to work with a multicultural and virtual team. ● Personal commitment to sustainability. ● Excellent communication skills. ● Willingness to travel as the job requires.

Desired - Education, Experience and Qualifications

● Knowledge and experience with voluntary certification standards, standard development and global best practice.

● Experience in managing bioenergy projects in the region.
