COMMUNITY SERVICE AWARDS

Congratulations to Lexie Johnson-Smith (left below) and Hayley O’Neil (right) from our U15

Girls who were this week awarded PBC Optima Awards for Outstanding Community Service

during Term 2.

Year 9 student Lexie received a Red Optima Award for completing 25 hours of community

service in our club. Lexie spent many hours marketing and recruiting players for our three

female AFL teams. Well done Lexie.

Congratulations also to year 9 student Hayley McNeill who received a Blue Optima Award for

outstanding community service in our club. Hayley is never far away from the action - serving

in the canteen, time keeping, running water for teams, running errands and helping our

committee members whenever she can. Fantastic work Hayley and thank you.

For your PBC student to qualify for a community service Optima Award they must complete a

minimum of 25 hours service in one term. If your child helps out please encourage them to

keep a record of the hours they complete. At the end of the term please hand the record of

completion to a committee member who will ensure the paperwork is given to PBC.

Our club is engaged with schools across our area to recognise our juniors who give of their

time each week in community service through our club.

FIRST AID POLICY As we move towards the finals please be sure you are across our Gold Coast Junior AFL First Aid

Policy.

This policy applies to our home games and away games at all clubs.

The full policy is available on our Website: www.pbcjafc.com.au under LATEST NEWS.

The main points are:

(1) First Aid Officers MUST wear a red bib. This is to be worn over their uniform if they are an external company.

(2) They must be visible on the field at all times, if two ovals are running at the same time you need two First Aid Officers

(3) In all instances, the First Aid Officer will be the first responder to injured players. If assistance is required, then the First Aid Officer will signal to team official (trainer) if help is needed

(4) They must get to any injured player as quick as possible

(5) If there is no First Aid Officer the game WILL NOT commence

(6) They MUST abide by the concussion rule

(7) If a club has their own First Aid person for any team they MUST sit with the First Aid Officer unless specifically treating a player in the coach’s box. Once they have treated the player they must return to the First Aid Officer.

Coach’s Comments

This week we played the much-fancied Broadbeach at home in a top of the ladder clash.

The last time we played Broadbeach earlier in the season they handed us a lesson in turning up prepared.

The boys were keen to change the result and started the game exceptionally well getting out to a 2-goal lead in the first quarter.

By half time that lead had increased to 5 goals and we were well in control of the game.

We started the second half poorly and to be honest the third quarter was very disappointing as our intensity and overall attack on the ball/tackling pressure dropped off giving Broadbeach 4-5 goal scoring opportunities.

Fortunately for us they didn’t kick straight and we still held a 6-goal lead.

At 3 quarter time the coaching staff gave the boys a rev up. We spoke about discipline, to push hard for the entire game, and how we had dropped off our pressure.

To the boys’ credit they got right back to business and piled on several goals in the last quarter to run away convincing winners.

It was a major milestone for our team heading into the final 3 games of the season.

We are now 1 game clear on top of the ladder with 3 rounds remaining.

Best Players Taj, Luca, Dylan, Boggy, Haydos, Oscar, Will G Magic Moments We are now 2nd on the ladder. Yeeha!!

The team was captained by Jo this week and he had his best game of the season. Today Jo gave his ‘player of the week’ chocolate to Boggy.

50 Match game champion Oscar had a great game from start to finish keeping the Broadbeach forwards at bay.

Haydos and Boggy continued their competition to see who can score the most goals each game. The boys kicked 12 goals between them.

The team was so pleased to have Taj back and he had a ‘Man of the Match’ game. Taj was on fire.

Max also had a terrific game after being out of action for the past 8 weeks. Great to see our speed demon back to full strength.

Special mention to Wil O, Josh, Jarrah and Harry who worked hard all game.

Overall a fantastic team effort resulted in a great win. Until round 14 ……where we will meet Coomera.

Best Players Whole team again.

Special Mention Damon, Ryno, Ben F, Sam F & Mason. No grand final team wins without a really great fullback line boys. So, take the time to congratulate and thank the guys that have been concentrating for long periods without the ball down back and still able to save goals when suddenly it’s their turn to go. Awesome team football gents- keep it up.

Special Mention – Will F – Great job at responding to some individual coaching this week. The rewards were there for all to see with a great game.

Coach’s Comments Pre-Game focus – bring what you’re good at - put it into action on the field. An excellent game all around played by the boys again this week and likely, our most complete game of the season. I gave responsibility to the boys to put out the fundamentals of our game onto the field by themselves this week. The coaching group and all the parents saw the first-hand evidence on the field that the playing group were able to achieve this goal. That’s not an insignificant step boys- it shows that you’re playing committed and team orientated football to a high level by yourselves – no rev ups required, just a great understanding of the effort and energy required to play great football. Well done, totally awesome! Feedback from the playing group during the game breaks was very positive and communication within the team was excellent. Every player in this team can be confident that everyone is playing a significant part in the team’s success from Full Back to Full Forward and all in between. That type of self-belief and communication is what will hold us in good stead when things get hard during a game, or things are not going as planned or there is a tight game on the line. When that happens, we will be sticking together and never giving up because each and every player can be proud of the excellent football they have played this year. See you at training. Cheers Brooksy.

Magic Moments A good day for the Golds with great vision and sharing of the ball ensuring some old – and some new - combinations have really started to click.

Players got to experience new positions, with Will having a great day in the ruck capping off a fine performance with a side-stepping goal.

Mason relished a run up forward and kicked some great goals, Finn was lively all day and Zac collected plenty of ball in the midfield. Thank you to our U10s who stepped up to bolster Mudgeeraba numbers and ensured both teams experienced a good game.

At halftime, with a great pep talk from Coach Angus, the girls fired and got the ball in the forward 50 but we just couldn’t find the goals.
