He went up against Stephen Douglas and lost. This did not deter him as he later set out for presidency of the United States. This time he ran against Stephen Douglas again and won. Abraham became president in 1861….

First, Abraham Lincoln had an interesting early life. He had lots of brothers and sisters. He had a mom who died of milk sickness. He lived in a log cabin. He read a lot of books.

Lastly, Abraham Lincoln had an interesting personal life that helped to shape his presidency and his career as a politician. He was engaged, but his fiance died. Abraham then married Mary Todd. He had three children. Abraham was a great father. He always seemed to be frowning in his pictures, but that was because of the technology at the time.

First, Abraham Lincoln had an early life. He was born in humble beginnings in a log cabin in Kentucky. His mother died at an early age from milk sickness. Later, his father remarried and Abe now had many step-brothers and sisters. Abe’s father was very hard on him and made him work on the farm. His father did not like when he read books, but this did not deter young Abraham from a love of reading. His love of reading led him into law school to pursue a career as a lawyer. This later enabled him to begin his career as a politician.

First, Abraham Lincoln’s early life had humble beginnings that led to a magnificent life. He ran for presidency in 1861. He won! As president during the Civil War he authorized the Emancipation Proclamation, which helped to free the slaves. John Wilkes Booth assassinated Lincoln.
